According to IRCC, if the internship is required to compete your study in Canada, then you need to apply for a coop permit. I don't know nairaland's rule on posting IRCC link, I would have posted the exact link.

A graduate assistant is different from a coop work. A GA is carried out in the school (on campus) while a coop is done outside the school and one is paid separately and even more money than when undergoing a GA.

chisongozi:

Please enlighten me more on this. I got an admission with funding. But I will be expected to work in the university 4hours per week as a graduate assistant. Also the program involves internship opportunity. So will this program be regarded as co-op option?

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by Bracha: 10:20pm On May 27, 2019
If you mean the IMM form for Application for a Study Permit made outside Canada, then there could be a problem.

Hopefully it's a mistake and you did write your name. If you submitted an online application, there's no way you'd have validated that document without the appropriate fields being filled. So I don't think you skipped that.

And if it was a paper application, the documents would have been cross-checked before submission.

Hello guys
It just hit me that I probably didn't write my name on the study permit questionnaire... Is that a big issue?

I applied for Canada Visa via online route, Got a correspondence letter, inside the letter is a biometric validation message.

Have not received any message since then about approval or rejection.

Can they still send in a medical request after this correspondence letter.

Need a reply

Thanks family.

Hello Gurus in the house!

I applied for TRV for adegree program on the 7th April; got denied on 8th May with VO citing Purpose of visit, Travel history and Personal and financial assets as reasons. I ordered gcms note on 16th.

My concern is waiting for the gcms would mean shorter period for visa application and processing -- Since the earliest time I might likely get the gcms is on 16th June whereas and my Sch resumes 4 Sep.

I'm looking at taking a risk of re-applying now or wait till I get the gcms notes.

Your Candid advice will be appreciated.
@Frankrobbn1 @Qudkom et. al

I'll advice you defer your admission. You have 3 refusal clause how can you asssume and reapply. I understand how it feels like but the last thing you want is to rush your next application and submit a "desperate" application. Please calm down get the gcms note and reapply.

I don't know of any consequences of not doing that. Also, I think that's the least of your worries, just hand everything to God, if you're the praying type, and believe Him for your study permit.

Hello guys,

Is it normal to get a mail from cic prompting you to check your portal for a new message, and only for you to login to realize that there's no message in there?

How long does it usually take to be called for medical examination?

Lastly, does anyone tracking ID indicate "No result found"?

Hi,

This would boil down to the kind of program you’re considering. I believe you’d stand a solid chance going for post-experience programs such as MBA degrees. That way, you’re able to show reasonable academic and career progression. I have a couple of 30+ year old friends that have successfully gone to Canada for their MBA programs in business schools like Ivey business school, Desautels Faculty of management, Rotman school of business and Schulich school of business - these are the top business schools in Canada. They are not cheap.

On the flip side, if you’re considering pre-experience programs or worst still diplomas or post graduate courses, it would be difficult for you to prove to VO’s that you’re a genuine student because it doesn’t sound logical for a 30+ year old with banking experience to go for a diploma/pre-experience program. In this case, one would likely see “purpose of visit” as he reason for denial.

TRV UPDATE for the week ending May 26th

This week featured quite a number of updates - especially among 2018 applicants. Processing time remained at 9 weeks.

I would encourage those viewing the thread but have not submitted their timeline to please do, as it would help us make logical guesstimates on CIC processing time. Complete information is still needed from Dolapok, Seatea, Oni2019, Promise147, docsaj, Cutieflaky, Teejay30628, Klem28, Boe19, Ancy 26, Omarzx, Hiambenson, Wealthmiq, Teslimot01, Obehi44, Vickglam, Pelumi12, Nochyks87, Harveygordon, Bdemix, Alexkrueger, Emeritus00, Chinonye94, Atamanekpen, Deane, Okoriekwe, and Opana1).

Finally, if you guys have any ideas on how we can present this information better or what else we can add to it or remove from it, I am always open any adjustment that'll make this better.

I don't really know how to give the details you are asking for, can you please help with a format for proper presentation?

I will like to also know if the kind of program(Masters, postgraduate etc) makes the response time different.
2. Since we have pple from other countries, is the response time same as with that of Nigeria?
Finally, please what is the full meaning of Gcms and what is the implications or advantage and disadvantages when someone request for it.
Thanks guys...
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by sillysassysally(f): 8:52am On May 28, 2019
No.

The regular work permit is the normal 20hr per week work permit that holders of study permits are entitled to.

For a co-op work permit, that’s like a real work permit. In this case, there’s probably a mandatory 3/4 month internship posting that is part of your program or something along this line. Then you’d have apply for a co-op permit by indicating that work is a mandatory requirement on your study and you’ll be given an actual work permit.

What I meant was that you’ve not provided your full timeline information. I.e. whether your application is a new one or a re-application, and the month your school is expected to resume.

Response time really depends on a variety of factors ranging from how much application CIC is handling at the point of your submission to whether or not you submitted all the information needed to assess your eligibility, or how clear your documents are, or how long your background checks would take, etc. In summary, it’s a holistic process that depends on every aspect of one’s application as opposed to one specific reason.

It has often been debated here whether or not paper is faster than online and vise verse. I personally believe an online application is faster - especially since that’s even what is on the CIC website. If someone who applied via paper gets feedback before someone who applied via online, that does not mean that paper route is faster than online route. It may be because there was something in the online persons application that caused the delay. Maybe the online person has relatives living in Canada that they had to do additional background checks for... Something along these lines.

Your second question is not clear.

On GCMS, I don’t know the meaning. Try googling it...

For your other questions on implication, it has been recently answered on this thread. You can read a couple of threads back to get more perspective...

I hope this information helps.

There was probably a status update, perhaps your background check or eligibility review as started. About the tracking number, almost everyone that gets tracking id from vfs after biometrics get the same message so discard it.

With an HND your best route is probably a graduate certificate from a college or advanced diploma. Nobody can give you all the information and guideline you need however;

1. You will need to gain admission to a DLI (designated learning institute) before commencing visa processing.

2. To apply you need your education credentials (waec certificate, transcript and hnd certificate) to apply to colleges.

3. My best advice would be to go for a GRADUATE CERTIFICATE program.

4. Make sure you clarify the living expense in the province/city you are applying to and check their refund policy before payment. Lastly, application fees for admission are non refundable.

This are the basic information you need. To start your journey.
