I hope you know there are different levels of risk assessment and management?

I think we can both agree that while you don't have to be a graduate to run a successful SME, being one goes a long way in managing risk?
there is this special kind of education you cannot get at school. if you think I am lying, ask those graduate dying for 30k Npower stipends and 15k private school teaching job

Good morning nairalanders

Plz I really need ur advice,i opened a thread last year whether to focus on my skill or continue with education where I got different response to continue with education but now I'm thinking in a different way.
My skill is still there which i'm unable to use here in school, but I found out another source of income(which is LEGIT) but this source clashes with my time table in school

I have to be online from 1:00pm-11:00pm (which is 7:00am-5:00pm over there but sometimes I might jst be online for 3-4hrs and still make better stuffs and jst log out ) to be able to a meet up with things.

I did this last month not up to two weeks and I'm able to make more than 100,000 which i'm very happy
So my main concern now is that is it advisable for me to leave school and focus more on this stuff I'm doing (I'm in 100l and we are in our second semester and lecture started last week which handicapped me from doing this work)

Because it is very impossible for me to be in the lecture hall and be running this stuff because i'm already concluding that I shd jst leave this sch and go rent a small apartment and continue this work I'm doing
So Plss ADVICE is urgently needed for me to know the path to follow so as not to regret later
Have you consider online education though it will cost almost double or
Consider converting your full-time to part-time, at least you can sacrifice Friday evenings and Saturdays for your education.

I'm in the same boat! My mom told me that I would have an inferiority complex the rest of my life without college... thanks, mom. But at the same time, I was making more monthly than my graduated friends, with debt. And I didn't spend four years writing papers, staying up all night, being stressed out. Unless you're in the tech field, I'm just not sure a BA is all that important.

I started this business two years ago. An older friend told me that we could make good money selling fruit. We buy the fruit from villages and bring it to the city where it gets a much higher price. My friend is six years older than me, but he couldn’t keep up, so I set off on my own. I work every day. I’ve already made enough money to buy some land. I’m going to build a house and use the rest for farming. My parents tell me that I should be in school. I respect their views, but I also make more money than them. So it’s hard to listen. Plus I’m learning a lot about business. Even though I’m skipping school, I don’t think I’m skipping education.

My brother started a business also buying pallets of discarded textbooks and selling them to college students for cheaper than they could buy at the campus store. When Amazon came along that business failed. Then he had a business selling beer signs in malls, that business also failed. Now he is on business #3, that business is very successful. But it took him many years to get to that point. I think once you've had your own business, managed money, managed inventory, managed employees, it's very hard to go back to college and sit in a classroom. I agree with this young man that it's a different kind of education. College is not for everyone, but it's good to have a fall back. (btw, my brother makes more money than I do now!

Op school is very very important.

Before you think of quitting school for a business, I think you might want to check very well and maybe try to evaluate the business first.

For instance, how much control do you have over the business?

Control is very important. The website you're working on, if they decide to shit down today, downsize or change their policy will it affect you?

If yes, then you have little or no control over the business.

Take my case for instance, I was making good money on fiverr sometime last year. I thought it would last but it didn't.

Fiverr updated their policy, that they will require ID card for verification and they gave only 14 days for you to obtain an ID and verify your account.

I don't have an ID and my account got suspended.

Since then I've been trying to stand up but haven't even been able to make a single sale on the website after creating another account for over 5 months now.

As such it is not advisable that you quit school for it.

Also think long-term. People may say certification is useless but in reality employers still ask for it. Try and get it.

If you can write well, switch to kdp.amazon.com. Also publish your books on D2D or Publishdrive. Thank me later.

Well I’m in your shoes. I just finished from uni and I started my company as a side hustle but now I’m earning over 300K a month and getting more clients that I’ve employed 3 more people. The issue is I applied for Unilag (just for applying sake) and I gained admission for Msc. My uncle has paid for it but it’s really clashing with my work. I’m really confused right now

Please what's the side hustle bro?

Let the online work wait dear. Finish your education and after then you can go back. By the way what type of work so lucrative is that. Are you a trader or a writer

Do the much you can with your online work but make sure you complete your university degree. You may not be able to get it later in life when you're older. I'm sure your online business will still be viable for the next 6 years, your undergraduate programme will not.

You are blessed to have found something lucrative while in school, I like to call it double portions. Do not loose any of them!

Acidosis:
If the online job is transcription, data entry or writing related service, you should consider your education. However, if you're skilled in other professional fields such as graphics design, data science, or data analysis, focus on your skill.

Skill, work experience, plus money in the bank will take you places and get you any degree of your choice eventually.

You may also consider accredited online short courses (credible ads are all over the place onlin) since your hustle keeps you online. In 1-2 years, you can gather around 5 certified foreign certificates with licenses all in your comfort zone.

I tell you bruv, no BSc holder will come close to your worth in the marketplace.

Hmmm Please what are your issues with writing related services?

You can still get that degree. Keep working and create time to read your materials. Try to have someone who will keep you updated on developments. Recharge their lines maybe weekly and if it's WhatsApp, check the departmental group.
You need money in this country to feel comfortable.
Education plus money is an unstoppable combination.
