[quote author=AGManuel post=79497614]I write this with tears in my eyes but I won't cry because a man is not supposed to.

If really I was such a bad person , I hope to change and live a better life. But to deserve unemployment because of a past situation I found myself in which I couldn't help, I think it's too much for me to bear, but what do I know? maybe I deserve to be unemployed.

But if I tell you I'm not depressed, I'm lieing .

Last year I got a marketing Job with a bank few months after my NYSC when things were extremely hard . Even transport money to go for the training was hard. On the first day of training, on my way home, I lost my phone which was the only thing of value I had then. Safe to say I began the Job phoneless , cashless and frustrated .

Even money to buy bank wears and appear smart or serious was a case . No transport for work, no phone for my work and marketing, no clothes to wear, I'll leave out feeding coz I could control that with starvation or one square meal. My mom was only able to raise small cash for me which most times didn't last a week, transport to and fro was 400 naira, a plate of food was 300, before I get transport for marketing , airtime and transport to call and bringing customers to open accounts and running around on the job which was money intensive, anybody who worked a as marketer before can relate...all these with a huge target of 30 accounts to open and a target of 3 million to bring to the bank.. At least I'm expected to spend 1k a day on the Job which I have not been paid. Remember it was my first month and most banks don't pay in the first month, it's in the second month they combine your salary and pay. Pay was 35k. I was just frustrated.

All these struggles manifested in my performance coz I couldn't deliver and my first two months was a mess coz some days I just couldn't go to work. Sometimes I came to work late coz I had to look for transport money in the morning. Being able to come to work and survive was my main concern then, I fell sick many times out of starvation and it affected my Job. On one occasion or two the Branch manager assisted with stipends when I complained to her about my struggles. Most times the stipends only lasted a day or two but It was a life saver for me coz there was no other option, at least I was able to come to work and eat the next day. Fellow colleagues couldn't help, nobody could, I dropped shame one day in the board meeting and asked for help for we the new staff and how hard it is for us to keep up with the Job. I got nothing.

Not too long after, I resigned to pursue something else . I traveled.

Only for me to come back after 8 months for another bank Job interview and when my former Branch manager was called as a referral, the one I complained to about my struggles and reasons for my underperformance , the same one who assisted me sometimes and this was her reply "He's unserious, indiscipline and unfit for the Job. I was not supposed to hear that but the interviewer put it on loud by mistake and I heard that part before she quickly put the phone off. Immediately I knew I wasn't gonna get the Job.

It hurts me so much, dad is no more, mom a widow, siblings in school calling me day and night for money being the first son and bread winner. If I'm unserious and irresponsible, I can change & become better. No matter the circumstances I faced, I can't make excuses for that. But if I was such a terrible person to deserve unemployment . I let God be the Judge. The interview happened yesterday.

I'm back to the unemployment table guys. My advice to every young hustler out there is to do their best on any job they find themselves no matter the circumstances. But my prayer is for our pasts not to deny us our future bread. We go make am last last.

Bro, this was my exact story ,when my hussle began, I started with a DSA job for Diamond Bank, it was hell, it was crazy, i had no option than sometimes use customers account opening fund, then reimburse them on payday.
please never give up, never there is alot of opportunities out there, today i have a wife, a daughter, and i live in a rented flat,i have two siblings staying with me ,God elevated me out of the struggle. then i only ate once a day, Beans 30 NAIRA, BREAD 60 NAIRA ,1 PURE WATER. sometimes i trek from okokomaiko to underbridge tradefaire complex where my office was. Oh Jesus Please help all those passing through this situation, am in tears as you just reminded me of how ugly and rough it was, i was tempted to relocate to the village by my parents but i refused, if na die make we die ,for this lagos we go make am last-last. Bro i dont know you but i feel for you.chat me up on whatsapp. 08130709923 lets talk more ,and find a solution.

I followed your story painstakingly. Your problem started way b4 u started working as a bank marketer. U indicated u got d job not long after your NYSC. Being a poor humble guy, u shld av saved some cash outta your 19,800.

*Were u d type dt influenced their posting to d PPA savings will be a mirage?

* How about traveling & spending your little allowance going to & fro on frivolous & needless journey?
* How about placing needless family responsibilities over dt very little & never enough N19800? First born & bread winner, So what?

Free your mature younger siblings to go out there & hustle for themselves. So far u aren't earning comfortably yourself, u owe no one any financial responsibility, only perhaps if your mum is very old.

Our background stories are almost d same. Yet, no one depends on eachother. Not even my widow mum. I know what I went thru fending for myself & going to school. I did all manner of jobs to d extent dt I almost derailed from my track.

In all, I'll mark that woman's assessment of u...70%. No one prepares for war when already at d war front. You prepare long b4 u gat to d war field.

35k bank marketing job when people get similar pay by doing nothing at NPower NG?

Well, lessons learnt, so try and save up from side hustles before your next formal employment. If you must hear the truth, no company (not even those advising you here) will pay a new recruit an advance salary. It is not done anywhere.

The woman failed you in the aspect of empathy, but she didn't as per her role as a branch manager. The beggarly attitude in the bank can also be interpreted as nuisance. Many security personnel in banks got fired for begging clients and staff.

The appropriate thing is to turn to family and friends, church members, loan, etc. It is very inappropriate to exhibit that attitude in a new organisation. Many managers will not condone such.

This is the truth people won't tell you here.

Kind of you to share your experience. Nobody puts reference on CVs these days. Use "Reference available on request". You can as well yank off that Experience from your CV.

You will get another Job and like you noted...you have learnt your lesson

That available on request sounds rude as if you have something to hide. If na my place of work, nothing for you

Quite a touching story but I'll be a bit hard on you.
1)Communication is key. The way you pass a message across matters a lot and determines the response you get.

2) The way you dress is also key. You may have just one attire but you have to look neat else you will be passed as an unserious person

3)In the professional community, bosses do not want to hear complains rather they want results.lesson here is never carry your personal problems to your boss. Doesn't work out well most times

4) Work without faith is death. So it says in the Bible. We tend to commit everything to God in prayer and neglect working towards it. Do not resign your fate to God alone. He won't come and do for us what we can do for ourselves.

5)You have to be up and doing, look and act smart.

6)Until you get your desired job, make do with whatever legitimate job that puts food on your table no matter how degrading you feel it is.

All said, kindly respond with your current location and phone number

Thank You so much for this Sir and I learned alot.

How did you leave your initial job?

The woman conclusion about you may not be connected with how you worked with her but how you left the job. You may not have known type of buttons she has been pressing because of you, only for you to tender your resignation. At least, she accommodate your inadequacies while you worked with her without reporting you or recommending that you should be sent back to your outsourced company.

Sometimes we need to reflect on recommendations that people gave on us. The woman comment might just be the best description of who you are as at the period you worked with her, because you are not the only new recruit in the same situation. You might be surprised to know how many people in your situation that the woman has experienced. God may have allow that mistake to happen for you to hear and make amend for possible future better offer coming your way. Don't live in self defense and denied blaming your attitude to work on your situation. Who knows whether that has also been the reason you are yet to get or sustain a good job after you left the initial one.

Now from your narration, you have support from your parent, your colleagues and supervisors and you cannot survive with their supports for a month. And I am sure the support comes more than once until everybody realized that you are just what the woman described you to be and stop giving you support. Secondly, you sometimes absent yourself from work, come to work late, don't meet your target, etc. Seriously, your condition wasn't the cause but your attitude to work. There are thousands of people who are in worst situations than you and survive the one and half months before pay. Moreover, if you have good attitude to work, relate well with people in the branch (operations and marketing staff), and not selective in assigned work, you can't be complaining of lack of support.

Though you might have been a changed person now, but at as that period of time the woman description of you is just the best description of who you are. My brother, think about it and make positive adjustments. May I also tell you never to include her as reference or better exclude that experience from your CV.

I wish you better job and new life to work.

I felt compelled to comment because of some other person out there who can learn from these

1. Your attitude to work can truly be assigned the word ''not serious''.
I remember when i just got my current job. I squatted in a colleagues house for months. I trek some of the distances just to beat the transport fare. I was malnurished but i kept on. I am still with the company 7 years after.... living a better life.

2. Never complain about your salary to your boss. Best you can do is to develop personal relationship with some persons, and on that note, request personal assistance from them. Employers always see people who complain about salaries as unserious.

It is well bro, I clearly understand what you are going through, It can be painful. Unemployment has really affected so many graduates (myself inclusive) badly; financially, emotionally, socially and so on.. There is one encounter I had in January that almost made me cry because of this.

Happenings like this can lead to depression which will therefore make one start to have negative thoughts. I usually say this - "Tomorrow will be better and as long as one still breaths, there is hope". I will make it LEGALLY. You also will make it LEGALLY. Just believe and keep pushing.

One more thing, do remove that woman's name & digits from your CV. I don't know what you did that pissed her off. This is a lesson. Only God can make a way for someone.

I seize to believe all ur summary and illustration. You are only theoretical in ur illustration about the scenario. My dear brother, i really give you kudos for you to be able o share ur experience with us. I have one or two things to learn from it. Na person wey sabi person dey do person. GBAM

My brother, men cry. Crying is human nature, only robots and dead people don't cry.

So, if you are at a point of frustration, cry. You can lock yourself in a room and cry out your frustrations, it is a key part in your healing process.

You cannot linger on the past, some things pass over you for a reason, even if you may not see these reasons initially. Take this, not just as a learning curve, but also as a challenge, to put your detractors to shame. Na privilege some people get, no be say den better pass you.

The last statement.. Hi-five for you! Na truth you talk!

bro just keep the hope high don't blame her or yourself but rather find a way to avoid such occurrence next time, been there nobody would understand, even sharing your problems sef would make things worse cos you can't be sure if they are the right people to share such stories with, be competent and keep your p to yourself at all time, someone who would understand you would understand without saying a thing

moreover, it is hilarious to think someone who has not really suffered in her entire life would understand you
