My greatest joy is that 80% of this team can still play together for the next 4-5 years if they maintain their momentum. We are currently blessed with young and hungry talented players which makes the fight for a starters shirt very fierce and competitive.

After the afcon, mikel is likely to retire, ogu should be allowed to focus on club football then the likes of balogun and Ighalo should be retained inorder to guide the upcoming generation cus their experience will be handy during the world cup qualifiers. Rohr and his coaching crew should scout and fish out decent players to replace mikel and ogu and also to add more qualities and competitions to other positions in the team. Also our biggest worry should be the lack of decent goalkeepers.

Maduka okoye should be drafted in so that he will integrated and grow with the young team. He may not be a starter instantly both but it will be ideal to expose him to international football on time since we lack quality in the goal keeping competition. To be honest Rohr have done a great job since coming on and even if he leaves after the afcon his legacy will and input so far will make the incoming coach to have less to worry about

Super Eagles Review so far + Bonus Titbit

- Iwobi may have struggled to settle into a good rhythm in the Guinea game but he remains our best bet in the #10 role. And mehn like Tbaba1234 already pointed out... He hit some fine strikes today that brought out two awesome saves from Kone in the Guinea goal. That lays to to rest the saying that "Iwobi cannot shoot." Even Chelsea felt his shooting wrath in the Uefa UEL Final.

- Mikel as DLP/CM remains one of the masterstrokes we haven't executed yet at the Afcon. Perhaps Rohr hasn't seen the need for it yet ..... But I feel that time may yet come. But Mikel as our #10... Please never again especially not in his last tournament for us.

- In Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu we have wingers who give us options tactically and organisationally as both offer so much defensively and offensively too.
Chukwueze and Onyekuru are inverted wingers/Wing forwards needed only to stretch defences further and put them on the back foot intensely.
Their usage will depend on pur tactical set-ups and approaches at any point in time as we progress.

Additionally, Chukwueze's skills, trickery, and Vision also mean he could potentially grow into an alternate role as AM/SS apart from his main role as RW/RWF.

- Ighalo wasted two big chances today... Yes! But he still remains are genuine threat upfront as he keeps defences honest. But Osimhen could yet prove an Upgrade even now if, and only if, he gets his chance against Madagascar and takes it with both hands and feet.

- Onuachu is a fine player but his best will only come when he plays with a player like Kalu on the wings and Aina from the left both whipping in fine crosses at intervals into the box.
His monstrous height could still prove a weapon in setpiece situations going forward now that Kalu has marked his return and also with Moses Simon's crossing form, from setpieces.

- Omeruo and Balogun should continue their CB pairing going forward. The oyibo wall was really good but The Black&White (Naija-oyibo) Wall looks even better. Ekong should rightly deputise for them now.

- Awaziem keeps growing into that player that will someday command our Super Eagles defence on his own. Very adaptable player. Very mobile. Very composed for a player so young. Very confident and solid. Can't wait to watch him marshal our U-23 defence at the U-23 Afcon and subsequently at the 2020 Olympics. That plus this Afcon exposure coupled with his continued club career progress will hopefully bring a world class defensive beast out of him to the benefit of our Super Eagles in the long run.

- Ola Aina have shown strong mentality coming back from that WC miss last year. His time at Torino has instilled more confidence in the lad and made hin realise he can be just as good as he has been touted to be potential-wise.

- Ndidi is on his way to being UNDISPUTABLY the best DM in Africa BUT HE NEEDS TO KEEP IMPROVING HIS PASSING GAME, NEEDS TO KEEP UPPING HIS ABILITY TO READ PLAYS AND CONTRIBUTE TO MORE INTRICATE BALL DISTRIBUTION. Nail these aspects down to a fine extent added to the aspects he already does so excellently and he will soon become the most dreaded and most valuable DM on the Planet.
He is still U-23 afterall. wink

- Musa remains our best from the LW. Ighalo just have to be more clinical so as to complement Musa's work down that flank. Musa could easily have had two assists if Ighalo was sharper today.

- Akpeyi is well shielded by the defence and that has added to help keep him settled in and composed. He did have one "Akpeyi" moment again as he did in the first game and I hope he doesn't repeat this as the next "Akpeyi moment" could prove costly.... But I hope it doesn't anyway.
Just eradicate the nerves Akpeyi... Be a man!!!

- We have a rich bench. A f**king rich bench.

Except in the GK Dept, we are covered in all areas. Even if we don't use fullbacks, we have Kalu and Simon Moses who can fill in superbly as wingbacks on the right and left respectively in a 3-5-2/3-4-3/3-4-1-2.

In attack, Iggy's covers are Onuachu and a hungry Osimhen.

In midfield, Ogu is yet to see action. Mikel is also backup now depending on the tactical maneuvers.

In defence, Ekong covers for the new wall of Naija-Oyibo. Awaziem also fills in as cover at CB if Aina is moved back to RB if Collins gets back to full fitness and reclaims his LB spot (would be tough as Aina wanna make LB his own at least at this Afcon alone). Reports say Collins have like a week to be back to top gear. It is Shehu who may not play again depending on how far we go in EGYPT.

On the wings, Musa is first choice and in his stead we could have Simon Moses or Henry Onyekuru. On the right, we could have Kalu or Simon or the electrifying and exciting presence of Chukwueze.

Boy!! We do have a rich bench... And a deep pool.

BONUS TITBIT:

Our first goal at this Afcon created by Aina's intelligent backheel pass graced by Ighalo's sumptuous finish BEARS SOME RESEMBLANCE to the Backheel pass of OKOCHA to Ben Iroha at Tunisia 94 vs CIV.

Both incidents took place in North Africa and in 94, we lifted the Afcon title. De ja Vu? I don't know.... Just pointing it out. wink

Omeruo has now joined the list of players who have gone out to improve themselves after being dropped from the team or relegated to the bench .. The others are Musa and Aina....

I hope Iheanacho is taking note .

Since nobody is talking about this, let me say it.

OUR CREATIVE MIDFIELD IS POO. Etebo's passes are average at best, same with Ndidi. Iwobi's inconsistency is of shocking proportions for a player of his level and exposure. One average pass succeeded by three hopeless passes and two awful dribble attempts. The only truly creative player worth his salt in the midfield, Mikel Obi is retiring after this AFCON, after that, what happens? Will we be stuck with this boring nonsense display that Gernot Rohr calls football?.

It is time to declear a state of emergency over our midfield. Intensive scouting AT ALL LEVELS must be embarked upon at this stage. If we can't find FB's to convince, i say let us comb every goddamn team in the NPFL and NNL for creative midfielders!. Someone is being paid huge amounts of taxpayer's money as "SE scout", and I am tempted to ask what the hell they actually do if at the end of the day we still can't look for talent beyond the and established professionals.

Rohr must do better biko.

We no get dept

Take it or leave it

And by then did we have players in laliga ?

As super eagles dey so,we can't have players in Seria A and afford to leave 3 of them out for the afcon like the Ivorians

Imoh Ezekiel and co playing in laliga and not doing well is that a depth you can boast of ?

A depth of players from hapoel beer Sheva and co ? Lol

I tought I even said Eagles will flop at the afcon that's why I denied what you said ,the arguement didn't even connect in anyway to our game

No start arguement wey you no fit finish o

If you have a player like Jeremy boga in eagles I doubt you will not take him to afcon,I won't even mention more to avoid some things ,should I even list Ivory Coast players that fail to make their list ? You are here talking about brown ideye that has been flexing in dubai for almost a year without playing football abi na imoh Ezekiel that's is scared to score a goal ,ordinary iheanacho wey dem no carry people dey make am be like say him score 20 goals a season

Solid how?

Guy was exposed all thru the match on his wing. Simon Moses made more defensive tackles on that wing that Awaziem himself. Where was he? He is good far from his 2 position. He should thank Simon for the cover up, else. A more technical team would exploit him and we would begin to reference this Guinea match asif we've seen it before.

Ighalo starts and resumes his selfish play. That was very evil. He wants Golden boot so bad? Then he should play with him team mates more. VicMo comes to mind. Etebo and Ndidi were beasts yesterday.

The highest successful take-ons in the whole 90min+ was 3 and he had 2. Also had an Assist to his Names. Forced many Corners which one eventually resulted to the Goal that gave us 3pts.

It was a tactical Match, Guinea didn't come to respect us and get humbled, rather to play. Calmly rewatch the Match with open Mind, and trust me, you gonna see what you missed due to your Obsession with Chuks.

Allnigeriasoccer.com looks at the key numbers from the Super Eagles 1-0 victory against Guinea in their second game at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

According to whoscored.com, Nigeria had 10 shots on goal compared to the Syli Stars 8, with the Super Eagles recording four on target.

Arsenal star Alex Iwobi had a game-high three shots and his two shots on target was a joint game-high along with Guinea's Ibrahima Cissé.

Odion Ighalo, top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, was paid special attention by the Guinean defence, highlighted by the fact he was the most fouled (3) Super Eagles player along with Wilfred Ndidi, behind only Guinea's Bordeaux star François Kamano who won four fouls.

Chelsea center back Kenneth Omeruo (4), Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem (5) and Levante's Moses Simon (4) led the way in aerial duels, tackles and key passes respectively.

Wilfred Ndidi was the Super Eagles player with the highest number of touches, 71 in total, seven more than the next man Kenneth Omeruo. Guinea's Issiaga Sylla racked up a game-high 85 touches.

Of the 22 players who started the game, Stoke City's Oghenekaro Etebo had the best passing accuracy with a 92.5 percent pass completion rate.

Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon were the Super Eagles top performers in terms of dribbles having completed two each, one less than the top player Ibrahima Traoré.

Omeruo had a team-high five clearances, one less than Issiaga Sylla, and the Chelsea defender also recorded a joint team-high three interceptions along with Ola Aina

Omeruo has now joined the list of players who have gone out to improve themselves after being dropped from the team or relegated to the bench .. The others are Musa and Aina....

I hope Iheanacho is taking note .

BTW welcome back thesupernerd

The Daniel that comes to good judgment. wink

And yes I sure hope Nacho takes keen notes. Really hope he can bounce back and I still believe he would. When we had two FKs yesterday, I thought of him but again he needs to pick himself up again just like Omeruo has and just like Aina has. I sincerely pray he returns to a team of Afcon champs... grin

Merci Monsieur Dan... smiley

Make I just end here first before it will go out of hands .

Imoh, Ideye and Agbo were all brought in to La Liga to help rescue their respective clubs and so they the contracting teams must have held them in high regard. No?

You wan argue now you con dey use their current situation take assess when I was clearly taking about before the 2018 world cup. The fact remains we left out 3 la Liga regulars from our squad which is an indication of depth of talent at our disposal.

Who will Jeremy Boga replace in our squad?

abeg mention the Ivorian players letf out of their squad and how many minutes they actually spent on the pitch this season?

Time go come wen I go still snapshot all this your yans for you. Just wait grin

Boga is a central midfielder and I am sure you guys will pick him ahead of etebo before coach go decide who to pick

Meite of Torino played 35 Seria A games (midfielder)

Jeremy boga played 25 Seria A games (midfielder)

Christian kouame of genoa played 34 Seria a games (winger)

Hamed Traore played 32 Seria a games for empoli (midfielder)

Sol bamba played 24 Epl games for Cardiff city (defender)

(Defender)Willy bolly played 36 Epl games for wolves (I am not sure he wanted to play for Ivory coach unless he should be in the team )

Koffi djidji played 17 Seria a games for Torino (defender ) I don't see him as a regular sha

Seko fofana played 31 games for udinese this season (midfielder)

Gervinho ,Lol ,this one na old player but I think he is the highest scoring African in Seria A with 11 goals ,I don't need to tell you his position because you should know him better than me

If gernot is in the position of this players then I don't think he will be taking a player from hapoel beer sheva or a player from bursaspor ,lol, even dropping semi ajayi pain me self ,and he plays in division 2 ,what about the guy from stoke ? Yes etebo has done so well in the past 2 games ,but I can bet my money if super eagles possess this players we go swear for the coach if him carry etebo ,almost all this players I called played in Seria A ,hope you can see the impact of a better league on omeruo and aina ? even rohr prefers kalu ahead of prolific onyekuru just because of better league

You can put my screen shot nah ,wetin you dey wait for ,You dey fear ni or wetin ?

People go think say I wish super eagles bad the way you dey talk or I say the team no go do well for afcon ,because I say we no get depth na him make you carry the matter for head like gala ? lol

Please name the super eagles player who played in Europe top 5 leagues that was left out of the squad , lol

No start wetin you no fit finish bro

I have been enjoying the afcon so far

Please also tell me where I said others team will beat the eagles because that's what you are trying to bring up

Me saying Ivory Coast and Senegal have players in Better club than us doesn't meant they will win us ,this is the Nations cup for crying out loud ,I am not saying anything to please you or anyone

Nigeria footballers get paid for their services, they sacrifice nothing.

By Colin Udoh

We are all here now as players are going on strike to receive bonuses, and all of us ordinary citizens are joining them in the fight to get paid.

The Super Eagles are on $10k per win. Their two wins so far means they are already $20K to the good and counting.

The Super Falcons are in line to share a $300 000 pot by the time FIFA pays the participation fee in September. This is in addition to the $4k each they received from their lone win against Korea.

Not to mention the $10K bonuses they received during the AWCON.

I say all this because tomorrow something will happen and we will hear folks saying “after all the sacrifice we made for this country, now we have been abandoned.”

Sacrifice shege! We know those who sacrificed, and those days are so far back in our rear view we can’t even see them anymore.

These ones are doing a job and getting paid for it. Very handsomely, too. Their flight tickets get paid to come and play. They stay in luxury hotels funded by the taxpayer. Are driven around with security paid for by the tax payer. Get three square meals a day fit for royalty also on the taxpayer’s bill.

So please tell me again, which sacrifice?

How many ordinary folks are earning over N3.6m tax free? By the time the Super Eagles finish the Nations Cup, if they win it, imagine how much they would have made.

If they win the trophy, they will now receive additional gifts of money from government and different directions.

I am not saying they don’t deserve it. After all, basic economics teaches us that talent pays higher than even education. That is why musicians and sports stars earn more than regular Joe.

But we must stop this “sacrifice” narrative. It is just NOT TRUE!

There is no sacrifice here. Period
