The bloat in most companies are the over paid executives, a large number of whom are adding zero value.

Unfortunately, the banking sector has never been unionised, which is why at the first sign of distress, the exemplary leaders throw the crew overboard.

Please spare us the right wing capitalism solves all bs.
The country that celebrates capitalism as a cure all has a shrinking middle class, those worthless drones as you call them.

This is a dangerous argument or line of thinking, the socialism and unionization part. We shouldnt be sentimental or emotional in our decision making.
Just look at the services that have been unionized.
My prime example is teachers in public service, even in america, the quality of public education is shiit, and the few exceptions still dont match up to the private sector.
Unionization gives too much power to employees and leads to reduced quality of output.
Nigerian public teachers are probably d worst, there were some that coudnt read their credentials.
And Trust politicians not to mess with unions because of votes.
So unionazation is not the answer.
The only fault is banks should downsize with appropriate disengagement compensation.
In Other climes banks can write off 2 billion dollars to restructuring cost a year for these exercises.

No problem there. You have never struck me as the type who could run a business either. more like some silver spoon kid who had everything handed to him and has grown into delusions of competence and ability.

Heh

Silver spoon, how dare you downgrade my birth? Anything less than a diamond encrusted platinum spoon is only fit for my dog.

But seriously you're free to indulge your wild and fanciful notions, good sir

you are really naive if you think the quality of public education in america is poor because of unions and not because of government neglect.

unionisation protects employees from the incompetence of corporate overlords
the banking industry has no respect whatsoever for its workers.
they are expected to work overtime without compensation
they often work for years without any form of raise or promotion, because the banks can get away with that
that is partly where all the big profits those banks declare come from.

if you're a corper, you will learn soon. smiley

i worked in a company where the management did their best to destroy the union, and the reasons became apparent when the company suffered mega losses due to the cowboy attitude of the executive finally coming home to roost.

right in front of us, people in branches of the company that were not unionised and could thus be cheaply disposed of were let go.

This after the CEO looked us in the eye in a meeting and said no one will be sacked.

I witnessed same thing this year, when some non unionised people who worked under me were let go.

these are people who worked on weekends, during public holidays, who were on call 24/7; people who had literally shed blood so the companies operations would not be hindered. they were paid less than 400k severance benefits for 10 years of work. all because of a misguided management decision that will still bite the company in the arse

some silver spoon quota system pricks will call such people lazy drones. but those drones have given far more to the company than the jokers in the executive

You are clearly a socialist, otherwise you were born yesterday and dont know the world works
If i put a billion naira down( Ignore how i got that kind of money since its very easy work and anybody can apparently pull humongrous amounts of money out of their asses)
And i set up a company, my employees are more important than me and i shouldnt be in control of my company that i set up with my money.
And i should rather make lossess continuosly even if cutting staff can prevent that because i am their daddy
And boy o boy I jst love making lossess and losing money(losses can actually deplete ur capital)
Making losses makes me jst damn hard ! grin
Wow
Wow
Wow
This is actually very annoying, so lemme continue

Companies that repeatedly make losses also last forever into eternity so they can continue employing those needless workers that you care about, they dont fold up or go bankrupt cos this is lala land or zeeworld.

Investors are also very motivated to continue pouring money into loss making or money losing business cos they get a hard on for losses just like me

I may address ur other issues next time i feel like wasting my energy

I agree. I heard about this from a reliable source yesterday. Apparently, most people sacked were bank tellers with over 10 years in service. Some of them in their mid 30s who have been getting salary increments as the norm. As a business man, would you keep increasing salaries for a skill set like bank tellers or would you employ young people in their early 20s willing to earn a fraction to kick start their career? Being a bank teller for 10 years doesn't sound like someone you would want to keep indefinitely. My opinion but put urself in the position of the owner.
Are bank tellers contract staff?

That's why it's better to always collect loan as a bank worker, I'm sure they won't attempt sack during the repayment period. I may be wrong sha. I have a friend there, I don't even know the best advice I can give him.

Loan of how much? Maybe three months salary. It's usually not more than your severance package. So you may end up being sacked and paid and loan deducted with nothing for you. I don't advocate anyone takes loan.

I remember when I lost my BankPhb job in 2009. I made the decision never to work in a bank again. Sadly, the situation of bank workers is still the same. They close from work everyday without any assurance that they will still have the job the following morning.

Young graduates should look beyond building a career in the banking sector. It can be your stepping stone but please, start looking for opportunities in other sectors. Don’t ever stay more than five years in a bank.

The situation of bank workers is not the same. It's far worse than ten years ago. And getting worse by the day. Trust me, I know what I mean.

Majority. Even for those of them who are staff, they are the least paid in the branches, little wonder that they tend to be rude than other staff in the branch.

Is it their father's company that they shouldn't get sacked?

It's business, not an NGO. There's no sympathy in business, in advanced countries fired workers bow their heads and walk away with nary a whimper.

But in Nigeria workers deem it a right to remain perpetually employed.
The affected staff were only asking for their benefits. Some worked for four year her pay off is 68k. Is that fair?.

You folks have started with your bankworkers hate thingy, jobless people will be like bank job no be work!! bank job nor be work!!, but when banks publish graduate trainee job adverts, y'all will slam their portals with miilions of y'all's dirty looking generic CVs with fasting and prayer and start to fidget in front of HRs when invited for ordinary panel interview and thats if y'all managed to manoeuvre through aptitude tests.
Yeah bank work is stressful, insecure and can put you on edge, but the pay, experience and exposure are all worth it....Contract staffing is under-remunerated unarguably but it has pulled a lot of folks out of the streets.... I work as an analyst in a very respected department of a highly reputable bank's head office and the experience and lessons ain't cheap. Bank job has been favourable financially for me, i got my apartment in lagos within a year, I cloth myself with nice outfits, even though i had not more that 5 round necks and no shirt before I got a bank appointment , I evn met my girlfriend while I was working in my previous bank work in a branch level and above all, I have made momma proud quite a number of times. However, I have contingency plans should incase my job stops loving me.
For a jobless youth, 'bank job nor be work' is too big for your mouth. I even earn more than some civil servants and dem 'over sabi' lecturers back in school.
I graduated 2016, I have barely spent 2 years in the field. I have worked as a marketer, digital sales executive and as a user access management analyst that I am today and I can say I am a better man than when I was running up and down trying to make business product deliveries, depending solely on the proceeds back then.
Bank work is work i beg, as a youth without much financial responsiblity, live within your means, plan for contigencies, obtain professional certifications, learn skills/foreign languages and above all, do some side hustles, save money while at the job no matter how big/small you earn.

Oga. Its money we are talking about here, no one pray to loose a kobo of hos or her sincere sweat.

What if what was messed with was my entire life saving?

Isn't that enough to judge them?

Lapses on the part of the customer care rep who refused to process the disbursement error form I filled and lapses on the part of another central customer desk in Lagos who had power to track the transaction..

Some people would have gone to creat a big scene at the branch vandalising their properties...
What manner of fuckery is this!!? I am now oga...so I'm gonna ask u again.. One bad experience with a careless staff is used to rate thousands of hardworking staff!!??

Oh! I guess you might continue to ask till I notice and address a female Monika. Lol!

For the question, we are considering various staff involved now, the branch I visited customer care rep who forgot to process the form, the central branch help desk who refused to do the tracking from Lag and the twitter handler who promised to follow up for a call back of fund but didn't deliver and stoped responding..

How many staff's carelessness does it take for a customer to loose his or her entire life earning or go bankrupt?

Ecobank. The bank that do not use deposit slip. Just walk in, call out your account number and how much you are depositing. That's as stingy and wicked the managers of the bank can be. But I sort of like it though. Stress-free. I once asked a staff why it's like that and she says, well, that's what the management instructed them to do. You walk in, and only one person is attending to four rows of customers until they started losing customers. Now, you walk in even at peak hours and you won't find not more than two people in front of you. A whole ECOWAS supported bank fa. I really hope this new Eco currency works out.

Stanbic Ibtc also adopt similar process. The world is going paperless, we need to save the trees.
