Some men believe that if they let their wives know about their business or money, they will kill them in other to inherit their wealth. Men are very insecured.

Your last sentence appears like a false generalization.

That's why we need to draft a WILL listing out all our properties and who its been gifted to.
That's the only solution for this

Did this Good Samaritan banker happen to mention how women also go to their graves without informing anybody about their own personal stashes? Or is it only foolish when men do it?

Women like to weep and wail as if only they suffer in life.

What about their children

it has nothing to do with insecured

many women here in Nigeria are not prudent and dont think about the future, their only job is to spend and spend, so why should a man open his money secret for that type of woman

I think the Bank should do a new policy of automatic transfer of account and properties to next of kin after the account owner is dead,I wonder why that isn't in place in the first place
This is like legal duping
It's their client's money and not their money for chrisake undecided

It swings both ways actually. There are some women that have money and properties stashed away without their husbands' knowledge.

I was privilege to chat with a female bank manager, she made a scary revelation to me. She told me how Nigerian bank vaults are filled with monies of dead men who kept their bank accounts secret from their wives.

She explained it was against bank ethics or policies for an account officer to inform the relatives of a deceased customer of his account (without his permission). And since the man is dead, without giving his permission, the bank dubiously keeps silent about the money. She told me it is rampant among many businessmen.

She revealed many instances of dead men whose families are still suffering, while they have millions stashed in their secret accounts.

She mentioned one that happened few months back. The man died and the wife was crying all over the place, looking for money to bury him. Whereas the man had nothing less than 60 million naira in his accounts. The banker said it got to a stage that she could no longer bear it, her conscience was pummelling her. She had to go against her bank rules, and got in contact with the widow and revealed to the woman how much her husband had in his accounts and how to claim them.

She also told of another story of one man who escaped death, but his right hand got paralysed. He couldn't sign his chequebook with his left hand and he was in a desperate situation that needed him to sign papers and cheques. That was how he learnt his lesson the hard way. As soon as he got better, he immediately made his wife co-signatory to all his accounts and involved her in all his businesses. What if he had died? That was how his family would have suffered in the midst of plenty.

This stupid behaviour is not reserved for wealthy men alone, even paupers who earn little have their own complex issues.

I just read on the wall of one of our groups where a man complained of how his friend refused to release his ATM pin number to his wife even though there was an emergency at home, and his ATM was at home.

Many orphans and widows suffering today are put in that condition by their stupid dead father.

Women and Retirees are not left out. Someone told me how a relative of hers died and none of her relatives knew that her properties were scattered all over the world. Not even one house. Not even a dime in any of her accounts... If you knew billions unclaimed in banks belong to selfish dead people, you would weep.

Banks and Bankers grow fat on these oafs.

Please do the needful now that you still have the breath to do so. Of course tomorrow is pregnant and only God knows what it will deliver.

A word is enough for the wise

Some bankers are behind some customers death. the reasons why some men died without declaring their account worth is because WILL don't exist anymore in Nigeria. Abi na lawyer you wan go tell say u get 60 million and you wan write ur WILL? na same lawyer go arrange for your kidnapping. trust no longer exist in Nigeria forget it.

There is no need to worry depending on who your next of kin is
In the case of the demise of a customer, the next of kin could lay claims to such monies or properties

It's like you don't understand, even the next of kin is not contacted by the bank.

You have to let your next of kin aware of his rights.

I am not surprised at the revelation of the untoward practices of the banks in Nigeria. Banks all over the world including advanced societies are very crooked and greedy but the difference between Nigeria and those advanced democracies is that their legislators pass laws to put a check on them. Nigerian legislators who are known for doing absolutely nothing as far as passing laws to benefit the citizens that they suppose to represent, should pass a law against the excesses of the banks. I am sure they have a committee that has an oversight over banks.

All this people talking about next of kin surely do not know how the banking system operates. Do not be deceived with next of kin o. It doesn't guarantee automatic transfer of money or account ownership to the person. Due process for estate management must be followed before the account can go to anybody.

Very useless c.o.c.k and bull story. You said a man (account owner himself) was paralysed in one hand and he couldn't sign his own cheque with his other hand, so he couldn't access his own account? Ha. Bloody market square nonsense story.

Sincerely hiding something from one's partner is not good, but there are some partners out there who are ready to do the unthinkable because of the figures in their spouse's account.

Continue deceiving gullible Nigerians with this your fake stories.
CBN made it mandatory that account officers check on account owners every 90 days if they didn't hear from him or her. And if it's discovered that he or she is dead, they have 21 days to contact his next of kin and advice him or her on how to go about the deceased's belongings whatever it is. That is the sole purpose of NEXT OF KIN!
If they decide to play smart games and don't contact. You as the wife or son can simply walk into any bank that you suspect your husband or daddy has an account in and ask them to check his bank statement for you. You have to take his death declaration certificate and your marriage certificate or any certificate that indicates that you are related to the person. To make it sweet, you can go with a lawyer. You sef will be shocked at how they will be shaking. And if they claim your husband or father doesn't have an account with them, present your little evidence, be it a check book you found or an account number.
Don't ask me how I know this. I have lost 2 uncles in the past and that process worked like magic.
His wife actually cleared the account within 3 months even when she didn't know her husband had an account with that bank.
They called her as the next of kin to check on the well being of the husband and she told them her husband is late.
Then consoled her and hang up, then they called back after 15 days to ask if she can come to the bank.
The rest is history.
This thing na Wema bank oo

My popsi left only N126k and his N120k monthly pension is still going in for the past 5 years now. Union bank don frustrates us to the point we don't bother about the account anymore.
There is a process. Ask a banker friend or a lawyer. You have to go to the probate registry etc. Get a letter to the cbn I think. They will provide his bvn and all accounts linked to it. You then have to get a court order to release the funds to the nominated trustees. The process is something like that. Can't remember the exact details cos I made enquires for a friend years back.
How did union Bank frustrate your family? Or is there more complication eg more than more wife etc.
I think you should get a lawyer.

Cock and Bull story, nothing like that is happening anywhere.
It happens.
A banker told me there is an account opemed in their branch with over 20 million naira dormant for the past 10 years.
She told me everybody in the bank knows about the account, and the first thing every staff do when they resume in the morning is to secretly check if the money is still there in the account.

They don't trust oga.
