placeofallure: I guess life isn't all white and black. Some persons would definitely marry for reasons other than love, to people who they do not trust. I however implore them to make sure the innocent kids who didn't have the chance to choose their parents, have a planned out future. The way Nigerian couples hide their money from each other ehn. I wonder how they sleep with such secrets o . 3 Likes |

Starke: PrecisionFx:Next of kin doesn't mean anything, when it comes to getting access to the funds in the account of a deceased person. The bank does not owe the next of kin anything. The only time such a next of kin can lay any claim to the bank balance of the deceased, is if he/she has letters of administration issued by the court, in respect of the assets of the deceased. 7 Likes |

Bafemi:Oga, you make it sound so easy, when it is not. The court needs to be provided with a list of all the assets of the deceased, including his bank balances in each bank, or his shares with each registrar or stock broker. Then these are valued and a percentage of the total value, is paid to the probate registry. I think Lagos state charges 10% or so. Afterwards the details of the administrators of the estate of the deceased, are published in the newspapers, while the letters of administration are then issued to them. It is these letters of administration that can be presented to the bank, before the cash in the accounts of the deceased can be released to his administrators, next of kin or relatives whose names are listed on those court documents. The whole process varies from one state to another. In a place like Lagos it can take as long as 3 months or more, just to get those documents from the probate registry. 6 Likes |

Re: How Banks And Bankers Are Getting Richer Through Foolish Dead Husbands by laudate: 3:27am On Jul 22, 2019 |
oglalasioux:No sir!! A next of kin is not automatically entitled to draw down on the bank account of a deceased account holder! And the bank is not obligated to search for any next of kin, of inform them of anything about the deceased's account balance. They can only do so, when they receive letters of administration from the court or probate registry, submitted by the beneficiary or administrators, who may or may not be the next of kin. 3 Likes |

oglalasioux:Please do you have a copy of this circular that makes it obligatory for a bank to inform a next of kin, if an account is dormant, as I have never heard of it. Even when you are still alive, and your account is dormant, no bank in Nigeria calls to inform you of anything. It is only when they send those their mass market SMS messages to notify you about something irrelevant like their early closure on a public holiday, that you are reminded of the fact, that you have a dormant account with such a bank. I know the headache I went through, trying to reactivate one of my dormant accounts last year. It took several weeks of going back and forth with all sorts of documents for verification. That is for someone who is alive, o! 8 Likes |

/ Some men are hiding money so that some pastor(s) will not swindle it from the wives. Or worse, the wives may send them to an early grave. A lot of marriages suck... that's why. The money will be easy to retrieve but many people have no idea how to go about it. How do you look for something which existence you don't know? / 1 Like |

Women are mostly guilty of this. Not even men. I currently know upto 3 women with landed properties and their husband doesn't know about them...I got to hear from their close female friends. Over here, they believes its best to own a lot without their husbands being in the know. Plus women believes their money is for themselves alone. Men are saints for this kind matter 13 Likes |

obembet: i sense so much hate here against men in your post. and i do not trust your motive is genuine concern about an unfortunate trend. i think you are a greedy woman who feels you have rights to your man's money not because you want his family, you the wife and kids secure, but so that you can just go about tasking him unnecessarily like alot of women do. in this way he may not be able to save to carry out what he truely wants to accomplish in life. IF YOUR CONCERNS ARE GENUINE, I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT. I for one do not have to reveal that to my woman. and that doesn't mean i do not love her. before she came into my life, i was already living my life and already have how i do such things. my family knows all about me and will not let my kids suffer. they are that loving and with or without her help, they can fully take good care of my kids. above all, they are very considerate and can even take care of her if she chooses not to remarry. even if she tries to remarry, she will still be seen as their wife, a member of the family. even as old as i am, they still do not have a problem giving me things. not just material, but other things. our nephews and nices as well as cousins grew up with us. it is that open a family. 4 Likes |

Who doesn't know that some bank managers are thieves. We see them being charged one after the other. Before opening of a bank account, one is made to name a next of kin. What is the essence of the act when your next of kin cant claim the money. Infact if banks were honest enough, they will contact the next of kin and reveal all such details to him/her. Haven't they made it easier with BVN? But like I said majority of them are rogues. 3 Likes |

Pavore9: Doesn't the decease have a named next of kin? Did the decease write out that the next of kin must not be informed of it? Your business is with the next of kin not the family. Telling the whole family means you want war in that family because some people lose their heads and sanity where money is involved. I implore you to do the right thing and invite the next of kin. 1 Like |

@ op see how gullible you have become, your post reeks of absolute lack of knowledge, that's how the average trader thinks. Please always research on topics prior to this display of half human theatricals. We have an organised legal means by which family of the deceased access funds from this your so called secret account with or without knowledge of the account existence. 3 Likes |
