Revolution is not something you plan openly. It's usually something that takes the leadership/government by surprise.

The government of that time at least allowed people to protest but latter interrupted the protest because they thought it might turn violent.
Allow people to protest in peace or they'll protest with violence. When the majority doesn't want you anymore, there's nothing you can do about it unless you want to end up like Abacha.

A question for you at this point:
that a BAD neighbour of yours in a very low voice to your ears, says 'tonight, me and my gangs are coming to deal with you'.
what will be your lines of action? kindly enumerate step by step in a very sincere way.
Note: This is somebody that has seen you with his girlfriend earlier but didnt know that you were only advising her against her waywardness you noticed recently. This has been a guy that beefs you because you go to work minding your business and try to be responsible as much as you can. This is also a guy you know that he fraternizes with a couple of deadly guys in your neighbourhood full of envy, particularly to your little success.
I wish you respond to this and thanks as you do so...

In civilised countries, if some says they will do you harm, you report the police. It will be the job if the police to take from there.

However, this has nothing to do with what is being discussed. Sowore asked people to come out and join him in protest, which is his constitutional right. The fact that he called his protest a 'revolution' is what people are making noise about.

You can sit in your house until Fulani herdsmen come and slaughter you and your family. They're already in the forest and on the roads, so you need to watch your back now and don't travel outside your city.

Use your brains. Which group would plan to rob CBN then first inform them that they are coming? You really thing that a group that truly wants to rob a federal institution like CBN would warn CBN ahead so they can put adequate security measures in place?

I dont know what this has to do with the fact that Sowore called for a mass protest, which the constitution allows him to do, and he was arrested for it.

It may interest you to know that it was the Federal Government that made Boko haram what it is today. Boko haram started as a protest group that was against Western education. Rather than your government to engage them, they rushed in, captured their leader Dikko Yusuf and several members, slaughtered them in broad daylight. What did that achieve? Shekau took over, armed what was left of them and started fighting Nigeria.

Today, over 200,000 Nigerians are dead, millions are displaced and billions of Naira that Nigeria could have used for other things have been spent fighting boko haram for the last 10 years

All for what? If the government had engaged Boko haram in dialogue when they were just protesting against western education, we may not have been in this situation. If government had killed Nnamdi Kanu or El Zakzaky when they came for them, some of their followers would have taken up arms like Boko haram. We keep repeating the same mistakes. Now it is Sowore, just because he wants to protest against government
So you never hear say armed robbers dey write letter and send it to some particular streets that we are coming to rob you? And you will see the people in that streets trying to do everything possible to prevent such risk, some people in that street may even leave their house for safety. My point Sowore is a fool. Go back and read where revolution has taken place. It has never happened in a Democratic state. U want to overthrow a legitimate government just because u lost election and want people to wear orange beret that carry your party logo.

Re: Will Any Government In The World Sit And Watch A "Revolution" Protest? by justmi1: 9:19am On Aug 04, 2019
What sowore is trying to do is what majority of Nigerians want and need, as a matter of fact, many feel it's long overdue but who wan die? ( we all scared and selfish, including sowore, if not why did run for office of president)

Now, sowore, from my point of view is trying to do the " right" thing the "wrong" way. Even if the idea is a revolution, he shouldn't have presented it as such, at least in public, as NO GOVERNMENT in the world would sit idly by and allow its overthrow.

But ofcourse Nigerians are tired of hearing protests and the word revolution is the only way to get people to support the movement ( let's see who would come out tomorrow).

Tommorow would really determine what we really want, a deserted protest tomorrow means we are doomed by the ruling class, ( sowore maybe offered a package and go underground) or an impressive turnout could be the beginning of the much desired " change"

Note that most revolutions don't start with an announcement of revolution - it begins with protest so only a stupid government would not pick up the organizer of a revolution - it is treasonable felony.

I believe sowore knows better and knows the card he is playing, I pray he gets support or else he is so on his own.

Enough said!!!

Myopic!!

So if a group of people write the CBN they are coming to rob, you expect the government to sit and watch when they know the identity of these people just because we are in a democratic setting?

And when they come to rob and the incidence claim lives and properties, it is you and your people that will blame the government for being too "slow"

Bokoharam started with the ideology of Western Education is a sin..it started like they were preaching the gospel...see where we are today!
If the government had done the needful when the movement was a baby, only God knows if we would be having any boko nightmare now...

Some of these systems were never designed for the black man.

You still dont get it. We are in a democracy. People should be allowed to say whatever they like. What matters is what people do. You cannot charge a person to court for 'talking'. If Sowore likes, he can protest that he wants Buhari to step down. If Sowore likes , he can protest that he wants Snow to fall in Lagos. The constitution has given him the right to protest for whatever reason. The constitution has also given him the right of free speech as long as what he says is not being used to commit crime. If the authorities have any evidence that Sowore wants to use the protest to fo something unlawful, then they should arrest and charge him to court

But if the authorities arrested him because he mentioned the word 'revolution' or that he said he wants 'bundle Buhari out of office' then this arresting a man for merely talking.

If governments start going after people for what they said, as opposed to what they do, then it is no longer democracy, it is dictatorship.

If you cannot understand all this and still insist that the government is right to go after Sowore because of the words he used then it means you dont understand democracy and how it works
Weldone Sir, I have read all your arguments. You can now go and release Sowore from captivity. On a serious note, the man Sowore knows what he is getting into and he is ready to take all the risk that goes with it. No Government anywhere in the world will hear that word 'Revolution' against him and keep calm.

Exactly, you allow people to protest then if the protest turns violent, then you can call in the Army to restore law and order.

This has nothing to do with overthrowing government. When Sowore was calling for a revolution, he said he wants people to come out and join him in protest against the direction Nigeria is heading. He never said anything about taking up arms or being violent.

Arresting Sowore because he mentioned the word 'revolution' would be tantamount to arresting people simply for talking.

Only somebody armed can overthrow a government. So if Sowore and his group are not armed and only want to on a protest which they call 'revolution', then arresting him is only because he talked.

We are in a democracy where people have freedom of speech. The authorities should not be arresting people for merely talking. That is very bad and takes us back to the days of the military where saying the wrong words could land one in jail

Then blame the culprit for wrong choice of words.... Revolution is revolution... Revolt, Forceful takeover of Government, forcing a regime change
