This is another sad event in the life of an everyday Nigerian. The arrant behavior of military personnel against innocent civilians is nothing to write home about. Their humiliation and dehumanization of citizens for no legitimate reason have reached a crescendo in absurdity. Assuming that the young lady was actually wearing a camo, is there a law -other than a civilian wearing military uniform- against wearing a civilian camo? And by the way who gave the "korofo" the responsibility to police and assault anyone that ran afoul of the law if any exists? It seems like any one who puts on a military uniform assumes he's above the law and has the right to abuse any civilian that he encounters. This is just wrong and I hope that the law makers would address these abuses that are meted out to citizens.

One day, I was passing an army base(an old primary school building turned to a base to combat unrest in the area) and was on the phone, I didn't even know there was an army base there and as I passed, one of the officers stationed there called me arrogantly to come to him. I was still on the phone as I walked to him(cos i sincerely didn't know it was not allowed) and I started smiling and looking at him. I hung up and politely greeted him and asked him how he's enjoying the day(all the while smiling ). His angry countenance took a few seconds, but eventually changed to him smiling and he began to ask me, "why did you make me smile?" "why are you smiling to me?" "why were you making a call around an army base?". I politely explained to him that I never knew I was not supposed to do that and that I am so sorry for doing it and will never do it again(all the while smiling). He told me that I was lucky that I'm a humble person that he would have told me to "CHEW and EAT THE PHONE!" Wow! It beats my imagination how someone can eat a phone, but thank God wisdom guided me. We eventually exchanged contacts and I explained to him that I'm a fashion designer in town(Aba) to make some bulk clothes for an event and some of my contracted tailors worked around there. I didn't get to call him for a drink as we agreed cos I got busy but hey... Wisdom is profitable to direct. You don't have to dress to provocate and even when you're right, apologize and move on and save yourself and others time and embarrassment.

That was how insaw.an okrika seller @ladipo spare parts market and a military Camo big jacket was among his wares. All of a sudden,one mumu who was pricing other safe clothes items suddenly focused on the cami and was seriously examining and pricing it..from his looks,I could tell he was a bloody civilian.
I had to warn and speak sense into his head before he became wise and dropped it.

For once, I never set my eyes on soldier. I was told they are always inside barrack.
Since I came to nigeria, my people warn me not to put it on. So I just pack am keep till I leave this country.

Military camo is illegal. There's Ankara, lace, silk, brocade, jeans, chinos many more but they still want to wear camo. For what reason? Just tell me what people want to do with camo?
