My dear u have done nothing wrong, the economy is just hard....when business was good I guess it will dated back in 2014...I can testify with mine.

The story of "The Lion King" best explains the situation of the country. When u have bad leadership hardship and hunger will become the other of the day..

Your biggest mistake was unnecessary expansion......... Since you do not get business from passing trade, the small place you setup with, could have been adequate.

Saving loads of funds on unnecessary logistics.........

Unfortunately, downsizing is your best option........
Yes, cutting of cost is one of the solutions! And, to intensify ads budget!

Good day NL fam. I need your help to get my fashion business back.

I started this business about 4 years ago sewing for clients and running a fashion school which had been good. I had a fairly large number of clients which takes care of the business expenses and meeting up with some other minor demands.

We needed space and organisation which prompted me to move into a 2 bedroom apartment of which the difference in rent is small. Most of our clients , over 95% came from online ads and referrals.

As such we had no fear that it will be business as usual since we do not operate with passers by patronising Us.

Since we moved into our new place in same location., since January, business has been dead speaking on a soft term.

We run adverts even better than before , every month is a more sad story. No patronage at all. The school is practically on hold right now as no one is enrolling for our programs.

We have been keeping hope alive but it seems not worthwhile. In 3 months to come , we hope to renew our rent. And as we speak , not even a tenth is available as savings.

Please help me with suggestions on how to revive this business. Thank you.

P.s: Expenses did not increase at all. We didn't employ new staff.

Mods, pls push this to front page to get the much needed responses. Thanks
You need a swoth analyses. Make sure you know what your competitors are doing differently. The worse thing to do is pray.

If I don’t reply your mention, just know you are a religious SLAVE, you can’t debate with me a free thinker.

I am not too keen on spirituality, so I will leave out the spiritual aspect for others.

I have seen way too many books to know that lots of fancy businesses are on life-support.

-First thing is location. You can't continue to rely on 95% online customers and referrals. Online is good, but your immediate environment should also be a target market.

-You are staying in a two-bedroom. Are you visible enough? The difference in rent might be small, but how is the difference in how easy it is for the woman next door to approach your business? See, forget IG packaging o, some of them are struggling to stay afloat. Except you have a circle that will keep patronising you, never rule out the low-income earners in your business.

-Also, my hairdresser once told me it is really not easy to survive in business doing just one thing. In your case, sewing clothes alone. Add other things. Dangote has cement, he has sugar, spaghetti, flour, noodles...etc. You think he doesn't know what he is doing?

Every day Dangote opens shop, he must collect at least N1 from almost every Nigerian. Be you rich, middle-classed or poor!

-Your workers too. Are you sure they are not cornering your customers? It happens all the time in business that involves handiwork. They will slash the price and be doing mad turnover. While your business suffers.

Hey! There is a thick cloud over that particular apartment and nothing you do from there will be seeing.

Nobody is seeing anything about you and your business.

If you can confront them fine. But my take will be you move out without any form of announcement.

Just move out quietly. Sometimes, it's wisdom to flee.

Can't you see that the house didn't favour you.
Since you packed in no sale.

I have a friend, now landlord who told me similar stories. He said as soon he settled down he packed into this flat from one room, when he was in this one room he bought a land beside me from same business he was into.

But immediately he entered this new flat business went dead, to eat problem. He said he borrowed money after living in the new house for 2 years to get another apartment.

Immediately he change location business pick, he within 9 months he started building his house close to me.
Right now he is living in his new home.

This story was told me by the whom it happened to... So its not "them say them say".

Some house will collect your blessings and sink you down due to foundation.

some intelligent agency has been tipped off to intercept your trade through blackmail or as politicians call it, assassination of character which is done secretly and carefully within your own server with the punishment and reward tactics... that is if they comply they are paid for it otherwise they are killed... they may even send a warning by killing somebody and ask them to keep it secret to prove loyalty... this way you keep working without result but they will hide under the guise of petting you each time you make complain and laugh you in the back but keep trying because soon the scale will fall off from their eyes when an important personality among your secret servers is disappointed

Nothing is wrong with the new apartment you moved your business into.. In today's Nigeria, It's raining on every roof! Every business is saturated. The online platform that is supposed to be succor has become oyingbo market.

This one no be prayer matter. Pause your online ads for now, na food money people dey find, na person wey belleful dey sew cloth.

-Take a break and restrategise.

-Look for other source to pay your rent.

-If rent doesn't come move your properties to your house(since you have a better online presence).. Forget what anybody would say, people wey wan talk sef never chop!

-Don't spend more money if nothing is coming in.

- you can start a FREE online class... Everybody loves freebies.. This way, you sell your brand again!

- Start looking for other line of business... In Nigeria 2019, you need multiple streams of income to survive.

-You may want to look into rebranding....

The country tire person abeg!

my brother here is what am saying.....Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in a man's heartweighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
And if you look at;

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him
because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7
do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known
to God.

If your main source of business was online, what happened to the contact email, phone numbers of those who patronised you when all where good? If you have them, you should be able to contact them and find out why they no longer use your services.
Also, who was your best tailor? You or someone else? If your best hand is not one of the owners of the busines, sorry, it is always a time bomb in waiting. When they go, they go with their skill and customers. Even past students will refer upcoming students to your best hand.
What about the site you do your adverts? Check for associated technical issues.
Finally, the more tailors you train and pass out, the less your share of the market.

I picked something from your story.
95% of your patronage comes from online adverts.

95% of your problems come from the online advert.

You must be doing something wrong. Which ad campaign are you running? Facebook, google? Sometimes a slight change in the algorithm can affect the advert reach drastically.
I’m not in a good place to advise you as I don’t know your current strategies

Don’t listen to people who tell you the problem is from your location. Re-strategize

Oga. I recommend the following from experience. i dont usually comment but i push by ur desire to grow ur business to respond.

(1) Try to contact your customers... why? because ur bizness is built around customers not fine offices. Try to get honest feedback from them. Instead of spending on ADS. Spend on calls to reach out to your customers to get feedback. Im sure those feedbacks will give a clue on wat to adjust and also gives u tips on how to proceed

(2) If you don't get meaningful feedback then i will suggest you relocate to another place. possibly a smaller place with low cost of rent.... u have two things to gain from that step (a) eliminate any spiritual inclination to ur issue & (b) u r cutting ur cost to bearest minimum level.

(3) Try to recall/retrace your steps you took from the day you relocated your business. Any new trainee/staff or girlfriend? e.t.c .... if u suspect any, my guy please just change ur circle of friends/staff or girlfriend --- spiritual things may be involved.

(4) Reveiw the business 360 degree..... their may be a need to change ur marketing strategies. for example, there was a time JUMIA and KONGA was in vogue. However, these days im no longer sure of dat... so we are in a dynamic environment. ur business strategies need to be reviewed everytime. U might need to look at how u market ur products. by change from online ADS to giving to incentives to existing customers to convincing their friends to come and sew at ur place.

(5) Cut down on unnecessary expense until the business picks again. GOODLUCK MY GUY.

It's obviously the new place you move to is cursed so it's better you don't renew the rent and pack out of the place

I will suggest you over out of that place.. Find who was in that two bedroom apartment before and move out.. Most times some houses don't have good luck. .

If anyone in the world is doing a research on why Africa is so backward right now, this thread will provide a clue.

While the whites are using their minds to project into the galaxies and discovering planets like hundreds of million million kilometres away; while villages in Italy are reportedly offering money to anyone interested in exploring their serene environment in exchange for investments, Nigerian youths on nairaland are accusing a house as being responsible for a tailoring business downturn in an economy that is practically on its knees.

Who exactly can rescue the African minds from this hole?

What kind of mentality is this? What is the meaning of this, African youths?

Hmmm.. Pray boss.

People are already seeing you as "BIG" and they believe you're "EXPENSIVE"

Who would want to walk into a 2 bedroom fashion school to make enquiries?

1)Slow down on the online Ads, it is not working for now.
2) Talk to your clients on the difference between your previous location and the new and what's the view.
3)Try and secure another accessible store ASAP and like a small shop people can go in and come out and tag it "Mobile branch"

ABOVE all, Pray o .

But I make new clothes weekly and those roadside accession tailors are my to go. When I see big glamorous Fashion house like this.. NA JAPA o. To me "NA FOR BIG MHEN"

But if you have extra funds, feel free to invest with us , we offer 20℅ ROI monthly
