It is not advisable to be stating amounts on a public forum. It has been repeated several times on here. Please be cautious. You can make your point without that.

To your question, bonds tend to have higher yield because of their longer tenor. However, because it is difficult to predict what inflation will be over the course of the 10 or 20 or 30 years tenor, it just be might be better to invest in tbills (a year tenor) and keep rolling over. That way, you can always re-evaluate every year what makes sense.

He said he is expecting 18 million from the sell. What is so wrong with that statement? You guys gotta chill

This is Eurobond Fund.......Not purchase of actual Eurobond.

This is more like investing in Money market funds (which invest in Tbills and other short term money market instruments like CPs) and not buying Tbills directly.

Hey mate, I've been reading a bit about the Nigerian Eurobond Fund. Seems as though the return is at sub 10% p.a.

Good day Gurus, pls I need your advice. I am selling a property and I expect about 18m from the transaction. Selling because of tenant issue. In fact, deposit has been made by the buyer.
Kindly advise on which to invest the money on between TB and Bond. I am ready to go long term as far as 20 years considering the proceed is from a property. Which one will give higher returns. Thanks

Just put the money in FGN Bonds 2049 at 14.8% (30 yr bond) or April 2029 at 14.55% FGN bond (10 yr bond) and your sure of getting at least 1.3M every 6 months for 10 yr or 30 yrs.

You can use the 1.3M and be investing in treasury bills....that is cool way of resting from Tennants wahala. .

You are very right, especially Firstbank they will so frustrate you ,.
They made me move my funds to Stanbic. I must say that stanbic is the best from my experience so far. I just walk in to bank, ask for Tbill form, fill it and it's done. I have been doing this for 3yrs, with stanbic both primary and secondary market.

I once went to GTB berger paint branch to enquire for the availability of tbills in primary market and the crazy customer care guy said to me... "just be reading your newspaper". I replied "is it the one you'll be buying for me everyday? or can I come and be taking the one meant for this bank? " I hissed and left the bank.

for long term, FG bond Is a terrible ideal, I'd advise you check into euro bond. In the past 20 years , naira has been devalued by 6049%

In 1999, one dollar was 5.5 naira, now it's 360. The percentage change is
360-5.5/5.5×100=6049%

For 20year there is a high chance that naira would have be devalued from 4000% to 8000%

For short term you can do treasury bill and watch for inflation.

Hello bosses!!

I would like to invest approx N10m(USD equivalent) in Tbills over 10-20years ; however, I’m wondering if I can invest the cash in $USD if possible..

My questions are:
1. Does CBN sell $USD bonds? And at what rate?

2. Tbills vs bonds . Which is better ? I also like my money to be as liquid as possible.

3. If I invest selling $ for N360, I’m I likely to suffer FX losses over a 10-20year period when I convert back to $USD @ maturity?

4. Finally, does anyone know how I can get a NDFcontract for USD?

Thanks brothers and Sisters!

Please share a link to the exchange rate of naira to dollar in 1999.

As far back as 1989 it was around N6 to $1, I doubt if the figure you gave for the rate in 1999 is correct.

Like DaBogu, you are also incorrect.

A 'cabal' in naija banking parlance is an account officer's or typically a branch's deposit balance from customers. This was popular lingo back in the heydays of banking in Nigeria.

I have actually uploaded all documents and details. It takes how long for the authentication to be completed sir? I am eager to invest as soon as possible today, since my bank has been playing me since. I subscribed since last week and I am yet to be debited. I went there yesterday also, and they said I will be debited yesterday.

Should be quick...so long as their are no issues with your documents

Verify and edit accordingly.
I observed the google search result gave you the value of one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine Naira Forex exchange rate
as at 13th of September. $1 = N361

Therefore, I align with the observations of the veterans @Ahiboilandgas and @Emmanuelewumi.

I use to think am the one that understands I-invest so we'll, don't know I have compatriots. There are also other asset management companies coming up with their apps. I also used the Afrinvestor app and it's superb as well. Unlike I-invest, they give one option of either to collect ur interest upfront or reinvest it.

it seems you guys are not getting the message. It is not a debate and I'll not verify and edit my point. I had made my research from result on Google search, sure Google could be wrong, but you guys fail to acknowledge the point and message.

Wether naira was 5.5 to usd or 55 to usd in 1999, the point still remains valid that over the past 20yrs that naira has depreciated geometrically and if the trend continues which is most likely, it would be better to keep your money in the major world currencies over a long period of time.

Information here are often based on facts and figures. If it is on emotion it is better you post it in politics section. People reference and revert to messages here year on year.

There are times people do comparative analysis on TB rates and still come over here, years after it has been posted. Foreigners and potential investors in like manner too access this thread. Do we scare them with past & erroneous astronomical devaluation value of above 6000% in lieu of 378.95% or with a potential rise in next 2 decades by 4000-8000%?

What we are saying is that the information you posted above is false. In 1999 it was never 5.5 naira to a dollar!

Lastly, If you don't get our points, then have a nice day.

Kudos.. Some people could be very discouraging with their messages about Nigeria. They wouldn't even think that lots of foreign investors are monitoring what we say and how much hopes we have in our country naija. We musn't be too quick to write our currency or economy off. Strong currency doesn't always reflect strong economy, just as we have seen in some Asian countries with weaker currency than Naira but have a better economy than Nigeria. The main problem in Nigeria is that we are not producing enough goods in the country, massive importation of goods, even foods, are a big setback to everything in Nigeria.
