My opinion is there will be one ..but may not be up to 500 naira ..when ?? I don't know
Maybe you are right, time will tell, but 500 naira will kill us. Apart from crude oil, is there any serious export from Nigeria? I am glad you shared that link here. Anyway, to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

This is when ignorance pay, I don't care about devaluation, all I want is my money to cross the billion naira mark. when I become a billionaire then I will reason devaluation. I have said it before that I don't want too much money but enough to keep me afloat. no matter the devaluation, a billion naira will still make me an average Nigerian.

My friend bought a year TB at SunTrust Bank for 16%. This is for 100m though.

My question is why is SunTrust TB rate way higher than other banks?

I actually prefer having many than lumping them together. That way I use the proceeds to settle my bills and then reinvest the principal. My aim is to have at least one TB maturing each month.

Hi guys,
Abeg, I opened a stanbic ibtc savings account yesterday for tbills, Made some deposit and transfer back and forth today just to ascertain that account has no limitations. But in all these, stanbic didn't sent any alert. Is that how they use to do?
Someone should answer pls

Did you confirm if you enabled SMS notifications or email notification?
However, they might just delay the alert ,only to give you a lump sum at the end of the month.
My thoughts

MORNING,WHILE OPENING THE ACCOUNT, CONFIRM YOU SIGNED THE INDEMNITY FORM AUTHORIZING THEM TO SEND YOU MAIL AS IT COST 4 NAIRA PER MAIL. WHEN THEY START CHARGING, THAT YOUR TO AND FRO TRANSFER THAT YOU ARE DOING, ITS SAME YOU THAT WILL COMPLAIN. WALK IN TO THE CUSTOMER CARE AND REQUEST FOR THE FORM OR YOU UPDATE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.

I didn't really read all the details on the form. But I couldn't remember ticking any box for alert. I thought it will be by default.

One part of me don't even like alerts. I am just been curious.

In as much I don't want alert, it's essential with the surge of internet scam in Nigeria

Emails are free, use it because alerts on phone are security risk except you lock your phone like I do. Finger, face, password, pattern and question, all in one.

To answer your questions:
1) what do you mean by viable? you mean genuine or what?
2) 10% is per annum, so for 90 days it is 300k* (90/365) = ~74k
3) there are no losses in tb. if you terminate before the expiration, they will pay interest up to the date you have it invested till. So if they paid you the 74k interest, that is with the assumption that you will leave the money invested for the 90 days. If you now bring story after 30 days and request they terminate it, then they have to collect back part of the 74k they already paid you. Hope you understand.

Sorry am not getting this your analysis you said 10% is per annum, and there are 3 fixed rates for 91days 185days and 365days so why will they divide again if for example 91 days tenor is 10%. Please explain and I would be glad if gurus can put more light. Let's say I have 150,000 to invest for 91days and interest rate for 91days is 10% what is my profit at the end of 91days. Thanks as you educate me more.

Problem though is that this TB thingy is making me way too stingy and Omalicha is beginning to complain seriously cry

Virtually for every single kobo I'm thinking of how to invest. . . .hope this is healthy oo. embarassed

Its true, TB will make you more stingy, but this is not stinginess per se, it's call a budgeted life, *as a TB investor* You are meant to live on budgets and to enjoy responsibly
. But don't allow this to deprive u n ur family some basics things of life , afterall, it's just one life n the nxt minutes is not certain. Living on budgets is a bit different from being stingy, a rich relative of mine will lock up his bag of rice in his wardrobe and measure for his wife to cook, even when visitors are around, you can literally hear them deliberating on how many cups of rice to cook. count how many meats in the pot before leaving for work, that's definition of stinginess . Last night, was discussing with my wife that I've never live a budgeted life before until i started tbs, even when i don't worth my current standard , it could be a bit boring living a budgeted life, but it pays cos your savings will keep growing which will later create a better life in future.

Better to hold your value in land than houses. Read on this forum where someone mentioned that a house is a liability and I strongly agree cause you steadily maintain it but you don't maintain a land
Unless that land is fenced with gate. You have to maintain it otherwise....

Let me try.
For 150k in 91days at 10% interest u get profit of

150,000*(10/100)*(91/365)= ₦ 3739.76.

So u will be given 150k plus 3739.76=153739.76 ₦ after 91 days.

Gurus can pls confirm

91 days @10% means for the year your interest is 10% but you only want a quarter of the interest that year.
182 days @10% means for the year your interest is 10% but you only want half of that years interest.
364 days means you want all the 10% for that year.

So to encourage you to leave your money with them for a longer period, you find out that 182 days and 364 days interest are higher.

You are not stingy but prudent. Humans are insatiable, appetite must be termed but don't deprive yourself or family their basic needs. Extravargancy should be eliminated, eschewed and immobilized, billionaires live average life while poor people eat up their capital. Educate madam to see the future with you or she becomes incompatible. Last last, choices must be made between your libido and wealth. For me and my family, we stick to the billion naira plan, no devil via any human being can stop it's fruition.

Amen ooo!!!! cheesy

Okay, let me try...In the world of finance, rates are stated per annum mostly. So, first know that whatever rate you are told for t-bills is per annum. Now, the reason for higher rate with longer tenor (e.g. 13% for 364 but 10% for 90days) is because longer tenors carry more financial risks (risk of currency devaluation, inflation, basic economic stuff that drive purchasing power) and so the investor gets compensated for that risk he/she is taking on.

Now, let me use some numbers to explain so that, hopefully, it is more intuitive...
Following your thought that 10% should not be divided by 4, it means the bank pays you N300K on N3Million for investing for 90 days
While they pay someone else that invests that same N3 million for a whole year at 13% N390K
Now, you will go back and get N300K 3 more times that year making your total interest N1.2 million (4*N300K)
So, you make N1.2 million while the other person makes N390K. Why will anybody invest for a year then and not for 90 days or even daily and get maybe 6% per day?

I hope you understand now, that is sort of the best way I know to explain it.

I think your calculation is wrong. He would make 97,500 for imvesting 3M for 91 days at 13% and 390,000 for the whole year.
