Thanks for getting back. I have a cousin applying to same school, EEng as well with a score of 299. Does he need to rewrite for funding?

Visa Approved || Passport collected
Venue: Abuja

Very calm place... Didn't have the usual Lagos rush.
Did the usual checks and biometrics.
I was asked to go retake a passport though... they needed something within the last 6 months. (2k just went like that)

Fast forward to my interview.
A woman in her late 40s. Very calm and friendly.

VO: So you're going to the University of New Mexico
ME: Yes, in Albuquerque
VO: How did you find out about the school?
ME: I did an online research using USnews and Princeton Review on schools offering Electrical Engineering with Communications as a Research area and a faculty with a strong Focus in my area of research interest which is 'Cognitive Radios'
VO: Cog what??
ME: Cognitive Radios
VO: what's that? I've never heard of it (laughing)
ME: Explains what 'cognitive radio' is
VO: Your school is expensive
ME: Yes ma, but I got a graduate assistantship position that fully covers my tution, with very generous monthly stipends
VO: Do you have any document from the school that shows this?
ME: Brings out my Admission letter
VO: They wrote here that it's just for one academic year
ME: Yes ma, it's renewable if I maintain a particular GPA level
VO: in case you lose your funding, do you have support from home?
ME: Yes, My cousin offered to support me in such a case
VO: What does he do?
ME: He's the head of blah blah at blah blah
VO: What about your family?
ME: Yes, my family would be supporting me as well
VO: What do they do?
ME: Explains
VO: Okay, (then types for like 30 seconds, the next thing I saw was that cute white paper) ...'I will be approving your VISA' was all I heard
ME: Thank you ma
VO: Hold on... In a case where you lose your source of funding, what will you do?
ME: I will come back to my country immediately
VO: When does your program start?
ME: January
VO: Make sure you don't arrive before Dec... Or you'll be turned back at the POE
ME: Alright ma, thank you
VO: Good. Take this... Do you have cash for your repository fees?
ME: No ma, but I have my card
(I proceeded to the ATM, made a withdrawal and paid)

Grateful for this thread, as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland.

If you're not applying for the scholarship on or before Dec 1st, then i will be late for you to write SAT in January and most schools deadline for scholarships are usually in December.

I've been teaching in Nigeria for over 3 years since I returned from Malaysia. I got my bsc. in accounting there. I got an I-20 for a msc in educational leadership. I lived in Malaysia for 4 years and did not overstay my visa, but my masters is different from my bsc. Please, how do you guage my chances?

Ps: I currently work as a staff supervisor in a school.

To be honest, asking people about your chances is not the right path. But it's a mistake many of us make. The truth is nbody knows your chances. And it doesn't matter that what you are getting your MS in. What matters is you being able to explain why you are changing fields in a way that communicates you know what you are doing. Cheers.

For most engineering programs, quant score is what matters the most. Many schools will not give much weight to the verbal score so far it's not too low. Good quant score is 155 and over.

For those resuming January, before you buy your ticket, contact your preferred airline, some of them usually have student discount e.g Turkish Airlines.

I am very new and a novice, I need serious drill and help from as many that can help.

I just got admitted into Central mirchinga University.

I really don't know much, My I-20 has been shipped.

I intend submitting my proposed transcripts for thorough examination from guru in the House.

A quick one, Is a must I pay for sevis fee before interview?

Secondly, I choose just a school and I didn't write any proficiency test.

all the people, i spoke with are all saying one word research! research!!

I need help
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by dhrogbar9: 7:29am On Nov 01, 2019
It is mandatory for you to pay the sevis fee before the interview. Did CMU give you full or part funding? It doesn't really matter how many schools you applied to if you can defend yourself well but it's advisable you apply to more than one school and write either IELTS or TOEFL.
I wish you all the very best bro/sis.

Many thanks !

I didn't write any standardize test, I also don't have any funding except my statement of accounts.

I am going for a professional master in health administration from Food science as first degree!

Though, I heard of GA, that only allows me to pay same fee as other local students.

I have applied, awaiting theirs response but then my I-20 has been shipped.

If I may asked, How much is the sevis fee and where can I pay it?

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by dhrogbar9: 7:59am On Nov 01, 2019
The sevis fee is 350 dollars. I'm very sure CMU sent you the link on how you can register and pay for the sevis fee. I heard someone paid it in Union bank at Badagry but most applicants get someone to pay it for them in the states.
