Ifeanyi Okowa Has The Opportunity To End This "Delta Igbo" Toga by gidgiddy: 11:07am On Nov 05, 2019
About a week ago I went visit my sister at her home and met her with her friends 10 year old daughter who was also visiting. When I asked the girl where she was from she said she is a "Delta Igbo" from Ibuzo in Delta state. I had to tell the girl that Ibuzo was just the short form of "Igbo bi n'uzo" which translates as "Igbos who live along the road". It struck me that the younger generation of Igbos indigenous to Delta state now call themselves "Delta Igbos" as if this is an actual ethnic group. It's almost like me saying that I'm "Anambra Igbo" or calling calling Emeka Ihedioha an "Imo Igbo"

The Governor of Delta State happens to be an Igbo man. I think that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa should do something to halt this trend of of people starting to believe theres an ethnic group called "Delta Igbo", no such thing exists, Igbo is Igbo. Ifeanyi Okowa should make a proclamation or a public utterance reminding indigenous Igbos of Delta state that the appellation "Delta" is just for geographical convenience and not an actual ethnic name. If this is allowed to continue, in another 50 years, these people will start calling themselves "Deltans"

Waste of time, it's not even possible. There are some people in that delta north that dislike everything Igbo and the governor would be stupid to step on toes.

You Igbo's always chase irrelevant things and shadows instead of focusing on the main thing

How come what the girl says becomes your business?

If they say Delta Igbo....I see nothing wrong in it after all to her she in Delta state and Igbo and seems to shorten it as Delta-Igbo.

Stop losing sleep on what is not relevant because to me it doesn't matter in anyway.

If they like they can claim Delta-hausa, delta-fulani, Delta-congo, delta-swahili it doesn't affect or change anything.

I don't see anything wrong in that, so if you want to answer Imo-Igbo na you Sabi...

Stop losing sleep on it Biko....

Classic ipob story,I went visit my sister at her home and met her with her friends daughter 10 year old who was also visitin

Story is unnecessary, just claim Delta state as Biafra or Igbo land and move on.

Are you the one to make it impossible or are you just scared in your estate.

Moreover I don't see anything wrong in saying Delta-Igbo.

If you still want to claim there, you are totally free. Nobody is holding you...You are free and permission granted.

They took it from the old Phrase "bendel igbo". that was when there was bendel state (benin & delta) now, that there is no more bendel state they carried it into delta state. And if care is not taken they will still carry it over into aniOma state. you will now start hearing Anioma Igbo. While they can't outrightly deny their Igboness., they find a way to Hide behind a political Comfort area. All because of politics. Cos of the afternath of the civil war. I have a friend whose father has Yoruba tribal marks cos they want to Hide his Id from Nigeria soldiers. Thats how stella damasus family changed their name from Ojukwu to damasus. They Forget that one of them did a coup that is still called Igbo coup till date. Why is it not called Delta coup ? When its a crime Nigeria will call them Igbo but once oil is found somewhere they Suddenly become Delta.

@OP, we have ethnic Germans in Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Czech republic, Belgium etc and they refer to themselves as Swiss, Russians, Poles, Czechs, Belgians etc.
Only those in Germany go as Germans so what's your point?

Mind you, these people bear same German names, speak dialects of German, same culture etc.

Mandarin Chinese in other Asian countries should tell you what?

The English people in America, Australia, Canada, South Africa etc should say what?

They hate anything igbo but they answer igbo names and speak igbo? Who is fooling who? Are you aware the igbos in Delta for many many yrs are asking for a state of their own called anioma state, and asaba as their capital? Cause the majority tribes in Delta don't like them and are not happy with the federal government for making asaba an igboland the capital of Delta they want the capital to be moved to warri outside igboland

Hahaha, what's the desperation about?
You can't force people to identify with you.
Most people are ashamed to identify with Igbos.
Igbos should just stick to the South East and stop this shameful desperation.
Unbelievable.

Swiss Germans still have a lot in common with other Germans in culture, beer, name etc but they prefer to refer to themselves as Swiss, during the 1st unification of Germany after the Franco-Prussian war and during WW2, Germany wanted the Swiss Germans to be incorporated into Germany but they refused.

This agitation began in 1958. IBB was under pressure to do it during his tenure but most likely didn't want to offend core northern interests

my Urohbo friend is always reminding me how Delta State belongs to them. He hates APC and Yoruba people but says he wouldn't mind his people joining APC just to remove Okowa who is an Igbo man. Sometimes I laugh at those Igbos who deny their heritage just for a plate of porridge. In Delta, the other tribes refer to the Anioma people as Igbos. In Rivers, the Ijaws call the ikwerris Igbo people. When their eyes will be open it would be so clear that they would start seeing ghosts.

Doesn't matter if in the same country or not, what matters is what the people want to refer to themselves and how they want others to see them and refer to them.
Rivers Igbo, Delta Igbo should be left to them and not you to tell them.
It is not up to you to decide for them, you decide for yourself alone.

The seed of hate was planted in the igbo ethnic group by the federal government to weaken the igbos, that's why they did everything possible to separate igbos from all its igboid tribes, federal government went ahead to declare the ikwerri's as an ethnic group of its own, but outside Nigerian Constitution they are just an igboid tribe just like epkeye Ika and all the igboid tribes in ebonyi , the anioma were divided and given under Delta cause the federal government know the anioma's are the strongest of all igbos they were the ones that fought the colonies for 31 yrs Onitsha is a anioma town, there are 3 other anioma towns left in Anambra

That is why the Igbo people have to keep talking relentlessly even when a certain tribe has decided that they would not allow us to be United in peace. The truth would outrun a lie Eve if it takes 1 million years.

Every tribe has an origin and can be traced to an ethnic group, and all these tribes

Ekpeye ukwuani Ikwerre, Ika, Enuani Izii–Ikwo–Ezza–Mgbo, and Ogba. Originated from igbo they are blinded by Constitutional state given names as Delta, rivers, ebonyi edo, they can not trace their tribes to any ethnic group in Nigeria than igbo, unless they don't have an origin and there's no tribe with out an origin
