Thank you for bringing this to our notice. However, ibos in Delta State are not Igbo but Midwestern people of Edo and Delta State. The Onisha bridge is the natural demarcation between the Ibos and the Igbo. Asaba is not igbo, Agbor is not igbo, Obiaroko is not igbo, Abe is not igbo, Ibuzu is not igbo.... let me quickly add this, the only primer (governor) of the Midwestern state was an Asaba man by name Dennis chukwma Osadebe and the road where the Edo State government house is located is still called Dennis Osadebe Avenue. This is to inform you that, the Ibos of Edo and Delta State are unique people and not part of the Igbo nation even if there is similarities in some pronunciation Let me also add this, just because their are similarities in the Edo language and the Yoruba language from the West, does not make Edo Yoruba neither does it make Yoruba Edo and also, similarities in the Edo language from the East and Igbo language does not make Edo Igbo neither does it make Igbo Edo... |

Westtimeline:Lol. This comment of mine really struck one of the busybodies. Having gone through your nairaland history, I can clearly see why you're pained. Well continue in your hatred against Igbos. It won't stop our match to freedom and then greatness. God will keep you alive to witness the emergence of Biafra, then you and your likes will remain as Nigerians with the demons from the sahel. I'll love to see your tears that time. 4 Likes |

There is no such thing as delta - Igbo, it's just a political tag. It's just like saying I am ekiti Yoruba, there is no such thing as ijebu Yoruba, egba Yoruba, owo Yoruba e.t.c. An average ogbomoso man and an egba man doesn't understand me well when I speak my ekiti dialect. Delta or Bendel Igbo is just a political name tag that arises from the British divide and rule strategy which they passed unto the northern oligarchy and embedded into the heart of the Igbos in delta state. 1 Like |

Whether they accept to be Igbos or not that's their business. The people they are rejecting their origin for see them as Igbos. So, who's fooling who? An Hausa person don't know what is Delta Igbo. All they know is Igbo. They only consider them as non Igbos when it's going to favour them otherwise, they're Igbos. Let them continue to deny their origin... Sometimes it amuses me how a group of people determines their ethnicity through states creation which is political.... That shows they don't even know their origin. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

Nowenuse:Thanks bro. I'm a very simple and straightforward person. I try to get to the root cause of an issue before debating it. If I don't know, I don't indulge. I'm also conciliatory for the sake of fairness. I believe in humanity before any other appendage or association. It's unfortunate that majority of the people of the world are selfish and all the other vices that characterize evil. Perhaps, it's the family from which I hail or maybe it was through the tutelage of the Bible that shapened my outlook to life. As for Nigeria, my present view is as a result of what I've read, seen and heard about her and the way my people have been and are still being treated. Otherwise, the potential of the contraption is without doubt very great. 2 Likes |

obehi247: It is because of people like you the OP made this thread. It is not too late to learn facts and not some hogwash. The creation of states is only a political demarcation. Does the creation of states remove your language? Your customs? Your traditions? Your beliefs? No, it doesn't. Re-learn and understand that Igbo is Igbo. Ibo is just an anglicized form of the word. An Igbo man from Enugu doesn't speak the same dialect as one from Aba. An Orlu indigene speaks different from an Ohaji man. Yet, they all know they are Igbo because the culture is the same. 2 Likes |

Ikechunna: So you dont see the mistake you are making? Nigeria carved you guys into the Midwest Region, you became "Midwest Igbos" They then carved you into Bendel, you became "Bendelite Igbo" Now you have been carved into Delta, you have become "Delta Igbos" Should Nigeria carve you into another area tomorrow and call it imbecillia state, will you become an "imbecillic Igbo"? This has got nothing to do with inferiority mistake, this has more to do with the gradual erosion of the identity of a part of Igbo land by the agents of division in Nigeria, and naturally, an Igbo man like me wont be happy with that 2 Likes |

there has never been anything like delta igbo. the world "delta" is english, hence irrelevant to our biafran identity. igbo is igbo no matter where. even in Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tome Overview: The Igbo of Equatorial Guinea, numbering 35,000, are No Longer Unreached. They are part of the Igbo people cluster within the Sub-Saharan African affinity bloc. Globally, this group totals 29,387,000 in 6 countries. Their primary language is Igbo. The primary religion practiced by the Igbo is marginal Christianity, a form of religion with roots in Christianity but not theologically Christian. 2 Likes |

GumGum: Before 1960, a referendum was held in the UK and it was agreed upon that people of unique ethnicity would form a state or region and a total of six state or region was identified with people of unique ethnicity, they include: (1) The Northern region (2) The Middle belt region (3) The Western region (4) The Mid Western region (5) The Core region (6) The Eastern region Keyword: " people of unique ethnicity" especially with similarities or historical link, because of the pre-existing relationship. Unfortunately, only the Midwestern region was created before the 1966 coup. And Delta Ibos didn't ask for their federating unit to be unified with the Eastern region because they insisted didn't that they don't share any thing in common with the Eastern region. Now people like you that do not know this fact would wake up one morning and write rubbish. I have a friend, an indigen of Ibuzu that clearly told me she is not Igbo but Ibo. When you know your fact come and let us know not the insensitive sentiment you are writing with |
