I am always harassed by women anytime I go to the Market to buy food stuff.
They are always making bad comments about me coming to the market as a man to buy food items.

If I buy fish of 2k, they will say this "one u are buying fish of 2k today it's like madam is around"; I will tell them I live alone, they will be like so na only u go finish fish of 2,000.
The other day, two women that came to buy stuff were saying to my hearing that it's only stingy men that don't want their wives to chop their money will come to the market to buy food stuff.
They said serious minded men don't have time to go to the market.
They were almost making fun of me but I kept my cool.
Me that is single, where is the wife?

I was waiting for my turn another time for d woman selling vegetables to attend to me, she finished selling to d woman before me, instead for her to serve me next she turned to a woman that was behind me I said to her, "madam how much Ugu u want buy"
I didn't say anything to both of them, when she was almost done slicing the vegetables she now said but "madam this Oga first you come"
The woman said, "madam leave this Oga him no smart, I sharp pass am, that's why and I am a bully, I can bully my way to get what I want
Correct men don't come to the market, this one na woman."
I don't know if I should be angry,sad or just disappear
Even the way they look at me with disgust is enough to give one heart attack.
They will keep telling me things like, Oga u be fine man and u get money, why u no want marry
Is a crime that I like to cook my meals myself...and cook good, very good
Is it a crime to be a single Man in this country?

Pls what can I do to stop this harassment by women in the market?
These days I will drive to a market far from my area to get stuff.
Not that I can't talk back at them but u know how sharp their mouths is

I can relate with what the OP is saying. If throwing sarcastic jabs is the best way to show him they admire him then I might as well say they are not civilised.

U lack confidence as a person, not just as a man. Something tells me u are also introverted, but that's not the problem. The problem is not even the market women but you. Are u the only single man that goes to market ? I think u are taking life a little too seriously. U need to ease up a little.
I'm also a single man and I do my shopping and cooking myself. See u can't stop these women from making such negative comments. It's the way u react that matters. Don't take their comments too seriously. Sometimes they do tell me ''men don't bargain, men don't ask for jara, bla bla bla'', I laugh it off and reply jokingly like '' so as a man I should 'dash' u all my money abi? And life goes on.
One good tip I also use is buying always from particular sellers instead of roaming the market every time. I have at least one or two particular sellers I buy from, be it meat, fish, garri, oil etc. It makes my shopping easier plus they always treat me well not wanting me to patronize another seller but them.
Sometimes I leave change for them.....
Like I said earlier, it's not about these w0men but about you. See the fun side of it.

Don't listen to those saying the women are interested in you... What yeye interest! Abeg do your thing. Our Nigerian / African society and their way of putting unnecessary marital pressure on people is really appalling.
Keep buying your things, even put Shakara to it and pay less attention to those simpletons in the market.

Na normal, normal for many of those market women to taunt bachelors who come shopping, dey can yab person but don't take it personal and if you are the social type, reply them jokingly.

As a man, when You frequent a particular market for food stuff, stick with one person, that way, you won’t need to roam around engaging in small talk with all these market women.

What kind of market is that? A monopoly market,?.. was she the only one selling fish or vegetables in the whole market that she has to act like that despite the fact that you have money to pay? Haba!!

Anyways, Sometime, How u dress is how they address u sir... When next u are going to that market, storm it with an unapproachable air.. Starting with a no nonsense frowning face, to your formal wear(no ties )..

When u get to her shop, every interaction should be in English.. no broken English.. If they asked anything reply in English without smile... the last time I checked, nothing puts market sellers off like English it reminds most of them of their inadequacies
Bear in mind that as u were doing that, they might try to get back at u by telling you that #45 fish is #55.. are u gonna haggle or walk away?

I will also suggest that you should learn to start shopping somewhere else.. in my opinion, what they were doing was not only harassment but bullying too...attacking your personality without provocation and insinuating that you were a woman is bullying...

Next time tell her to mind her business that her husband should be enough for her considering the fact that she was not your type, she got no business asking?
