I was at UNILAG studying computer science 200L but applied to join the British Army while in Naija. I went through the process and got a 6 months visit visa to UK.

This was back in 2009. went on to spend 5years in the Army, went to Afghanistan a couple of times.
I've left the army now and I now work as a software developer.

I came to and stayed in the UK through a tough means but God saw me through.

Read what he posited again. If you want to leave the country, leave through the right channel. You can't go to US on a visiting visa, and decide to stay back. The system is against you already.

Most reasonable comment ever.
People want to carry their i-pass-my-neighbour attitude to a place where they strive to close that gap. They view living outside Nigeria thru the prism of that warped mindset.

From your first post till this, you keep insulting people as if it makes you any better. The post I quoted has no doctor's salary on it. You called the guy a goat cause he expressed interest in travelling abroad, that's disconcerting.

I stay in North America, I'm a professional and I advice others like me to come here.
He is wrong for insulting people. But sometimes it's frustrating because people don't listen. You're a success because you have a degree that sells, you went prepared. Some people don't go prepared, they jump in hoping to pick money on the streets. That set of people need to be told the truth. Preparation is a key factor.

Information is key. I got the information on nairaland take vamoose 5 years ago. I knew the Tsunami Buhari was coming. Worked very hard to escape it. And it worked. Being to many countries in Europe and America since then. Never used any agency. I am my own agent.

This thinking is why lots of people are stuck abroad.
If you have not lived abroad then your assumption isn't bankable. There are lots of Nigerians abroad who live from from hand to mouth and have zero savings. Matter of fact some are in debt.
If you never see with your own eyes, you no go understand. Travel and see for yourself and don't jump into conclusion from what you read online or what your relatives abroad told you.

I'm surprised anyone compares life abroad with Nigeria

Am average person has a better shot to succeed abroad than in this failed shitjole dump called Nigeria

On average

There are outliers who succeed in Nigeria
But with the overwhelming poverty, foolishness and hopelessness in one space, one is better off abroad

No sentiment

One who did not make it abroad will most likely wouldn't have made it if he was in Nigeria
So it makes NO difference

This is just accurate
TheBeat:

One minute we are shouting Sai Baba, Sai Atiku and another minute na say Naija don spoil.

As much as I consider this as a nice topic, I would like to point out that everyone's case is peculiar.

Travel no go work for everyone. No let who travel make you feel less as a human and no let who him local hustle dey pay make you feel like travelling is bad.

Define your needs and set priorities. Let each day count for you. Don't stop looking for job in the name of planning to travel. Again if you plan to travel, don't let your small 100k job make you feel like you have arrived and forget travel.

Define what you intend to do when you travel. No go Nepal say you want study or sell drugs.....hunger go kill you.
No go Malaysia say you want be pastor or Philippines say you want work. Let your interest in life guide you. No be agent you pay visa for Australia go come tell you say make you go Fuji say you go cross Sharp Sharp and you agree. Or you pay for US and him give you Mexico.

Just pray to whatever you believe in as you plan to japa

Don't come to this topic looking for secret.....people will tell you lies and even if them tell you truth, them case no be same with you. Some wey their papa rich or dey into trading go tell you say them hustle, how e take help you wey dey village or your papa na classroom teacher for primary school.
Let stories here act as inspiration and not to give you the 'secret' grin

Hahahaha very funny

I remember smiling and excited whenever i read about traveling stories in the travel section, it's motivates me . Anyway I finally left naija over a year, moving to another country is not easy at all , however solid plan for sustainability is the key till the journey becomes smooth. I know many do complain that diasporans always saying it's not easy yet they remain abroad. The gospel truth is many engage in menial jobs which requires physical strength, I swear e no easy but still far better than naija .

I keep telling friends and family that coming to America does not make me rich. It only gives me the opportunity to actualize my dreams and with hard work and diligent, you stand a chance.

nervorum:

This is consistent with the story of average educated Nigerians who just seek to fulfill their dreams. Some places give you better opportunities to live out your dreams than others. Once you are legal, trained/skilled, hardworking and disciplined, you are more likely to succeed and contribute to society than fail. Welldone!

I don’t support anyone form of disconcerting.
But truth be told.
I am currently in USA on Biz trip. This is my fourth time. Please fellow if you don’t have that special skill with special visa or a student visa to come study and go back home please I would advise you not to come here. Forget what you watch on tv or the pictures you see on social media. Hussling is real and if you don’t have papers for proper work you will regret coming to America. Go to New York. You will cry for our young pple. Life is stressful here in USA. Please consider your options and make traveling-out your very last last option like option Z out of possible option from A-Z.

So you're judging the Whole Fifty States of the US from just what you observed in New York City...and not even New York State.

However , I do agree that the US is not for Lazy people.

People without papers still find jobs in the US...go ask the millions of illegal immigrants still living in the US why they're are still there and have refused to go back to their Countries.

Nigerians complain of bills. They convert it to naira to sound big but no one ever converts their income to naira. Oga, you want to earn in foreign currency and spend in naira?

The western world is structured towards reducing financial gaps if and where possible. You get value for your taxes/bills. You live comfortably. On our own side, we are used to aiming to be overwhelmingly richer than people around us. We would do anything to enjoy a system without contributing to it

I don't jump into conclusions .

I mention more about the life here in Nigeria, how some Nigerians can deliberately hold down money meant to be paid for services rendered. Whether it makes them happy the service render is always asking for his or her balance I don't even know.
Or companies withholding salaries. I know of one next to my office. They owe this new secretary money after like two months, she couldn't bear the suffering anymore, she had to arrest the manager of the company and file a report at the police station. Police came, sealed up the office and invited the manager to the station, cause the OgA has traveled and not always around.

Mehn, they paid her money in full before the gate of the company was opened up again. She is one lady who didn't take rubbish from her employers, because the company is known to always place advert on Guardian, people with suits and tie will queue up there during interview, not knowing the company only uses people. For a month or so, then only the employee will leave by himself.

It's that bad.

So I'm talking of what I know

Then I have a friend living abroad, before he left naija, he was suffering Even though he has a job. When he travelled and started a job abroad. Come and see this guy now, we always video chat. He looks so frosh and fine, I almost proposed to him. Not too long ago, he recorded himself suited up and dancing on his whatsapp status. He looked so happy, robust, dancing and singing . I was like wow! I was forced to pray for him through whatsapp call., that his joy will never be cut off! His joy will be complete sooner than he expect in Jesus name.
I was so happy in my spirit seeing him very happy and robust unlike when he was in naija.
As in that's when I realised Nigeria is hell fire!

So,I left lagos Nigeria in 2015. I currently live in Atlanta GA. If you want to travel out of naija to the US or many other western countries. I believe you should have these 5 core things to convince consulates folks. Do you have travel experience? Its very important. Dont do there with virgin passport except you depend on miracle. You need to be making good money or at least tell them and write it on your form. You dont want to be an economic liability to them in their country. Be ready to speak to everything on the form you filled. They like you to smile and be accurate. If you say youre a manager be ready to tell them your duties. Let them know youre married with kids that way they will believe you will come back. You can go with documents but US embassy dont have time for that. Two to there sentences for every question is perfect. IE Are you married? Yes, happily married with 3 kids. 2 boys 1 girl.... Why do you want to travel is usually their first question. Say hey my cousins wedding is coming up in May. Looking forward to seeing her after 8 years for a reunion and vacationing in Florida. Again, dont be afraid. Go with confidence of if you want give me give but i no dey do shakara. That way youre yourself but not proud. Remember smile. White pple like it... Tell them you make for example 3000 dollar a month.
I have been here for over 4 years finally doing what i like in the IT space. Before now i did all sort. Jobs;uber security. Keep your mind on the goal. Remember get your sources secure. They will verify your story before you get the visa. My 2 cents

I will try to be brief but Firstly always say to every desperate one who wants to travel out of Nigeria at all cost, I say to them "travel and see".

Many persons are not concerned about leaving Nigeria for greener pastures but instead they just want to leave the country so as to take crisp photos, enjoy 24hrs electricity, enjoy good roads and most of all freedom otherwise with all the warnings of people, more persons still want to go see for themselves.

I assure you 90% of you saying " If it's not easy return home na " Will still end up saying to others "my guy abroad not easy oh".

Please go and see for yourself... Most especially Dubai...its cheap but scam in the country na 80%, be careful, rethink and be very guideful of your money.

The only way you can make it quickly overseas is scam, fraud and illegal activities

Can you do fraud? Can you scam people of their money?

Just saying.... I don't even know how to explain this a broad thing to people. You have to go to understand.
The reason persons are not returning home is because of the things they see and hear about Nigeria on the internet but they rather feed from mouth to mouth than return to Nigeria.
When you compare many things in infrastructure and basic needs you'd rather overstay your visa.

I knew I’d have better prospect abroad than Naija so to cut long story short, I met my wife in a school in Abuja where she was visiting with her two friends, they had visited a primary school to donate some study materials to a school in Garki during a college break. We started talking from then until a year later when she came down to Naija to see me and I proposed and we got married at AMAC registry Abuja few days later and 3months after I moved to Britain to join her. My life has never been thesame again and now a naturalised citizen, obtain a pharmacy degree and never regretted.
