We paid 450k as service charge yearly without good amenities even the pool was closed because of it bad state then and each month we pay 70k as light bill not even constant light, the environment isn’t clean just like suburbs in developed countries, even the landlord pays property tax too. I just don’t know why all the people are complaining about bills maybe they’re used of living in village. Some places in Lagos is more expensive than developed countries...

Well, my travels to abroad have never been to stay there, just mostly for vacations, so nothing much to say about that. From Vancouver to New York to London to Paris to Sydney. I love traveling. My favorite destination is Singapore though (you can spend an entire month at Changi Airport and not get bored). If not for language barriers, I'll have loved South Korea too, and maybe Japan and Scandinavia.

No matter what country I visit (even my favourite Singapore), the happiest and most joyous moment of my trip is always when I land at MMIA Lagos, and see the three words highlighted in yellow- WELCOME TO NIGERIA. My heart just swells uncontrollably with joy and tears of joy flow from my eyes.

After I finished university few years back, majority of my mates started making plans to move abroad. Some succeeded and moved, while some are still at it today. However, I decided to remain in Nigeria and contribute my quota to national development, and I have never regretted it. In fact, staying in Nigeria was the best decision I've ever made in my life. What I see of some Nigerians abroad whenever I visit, especially in the US, the Middle East and most especially Asia, is not encouraging at all.


Nigeria has been a blessing to my family and I. From the almost free university education I received (without debt on my neck like my counterparts abroad) to a very fruitful business environment. Business has been booming. If I'm to be return to this earth, I'll choose to return as a Nigerian. I will forever remain in Nigeria. I can frequently go for visits abroad, maybe for a week or two, after which I'm returning back to my wonderful country. I feel sad that my fellow Nigerian youth fail to see the numerous opportunities I'm this country. All they think about is moving abroad. Even the Lebanese, Indians and Chinese have seen that Nigeria is a goldmine and are all rushing here to snatch a share of the gold.

However, everyone has different destinies. Nigeria will favour some people, while it won't favour some. Abroad will favour some, and won't favour others too.

My advice is, if you want to live a modest life, working jobs, driving one car at most, owning one house after paying mortgage over decades, then abroad is for you (legally oo, and be ready to endure excruciating amounts of racism). But if you want to be rich, Nigeria is the place to be. My wife, kids and I have chosen the later over the former.

Nigeria is the land of opportunities.

I was at UNILAG studying computer science 200L but applied to join the British Army while in Naija. I went through the process and got a 6 months visit visa to UK.

This was back in 2009. went on to spend 5years in the Army, went to Afghanistan a couple of times.
I've left the army now and I now work as a software developer.

I came to and stayed in the UK through a tough means but God saw me through.

Stop deceiving yourself bro. We all know there’re opportunities to make millions in Nigeria due to it underdeveloped state but it’s never easy if you wanna start from scratch without putting your hand in shit and beside Nigerian prefer foreign used things more than new Nigerian made goods.
1: Do you know how capital extensive it’s to start a business that’ll give you 20 millions in the next three years as? Because you won’t be making profit that first and second years when start your business!! The first two years you’ll struggling to get your capital back and reinventing some parts of it again into the business. And there’s a highest chance that you’ll lose some money or sell goods on credit and creditors will won’t to pay you back to continue your business?
2: do know one bad government policy can destroy your business? Do you know how many people stop their business because of our president policies?
3: Do you know how Frustrating it’s to transport your finish goods to customers because of bad road, highways robbers, bribing of govt officials, constant light that you’ll have to depend on gen and most time during scarcity you won’t see gasoline to buy?
4: do you know how frustrating it’s when you labored your ass and pay tax (businesses pays 30 percent of their profits as tax) and one looter will just kidnap the money and keep it for his/her kids and the child will use your money to ball . For me , my strategy is number two.

There are Nigerians killing it right now selling things as simple as hair. You just need that lousy Nigerian pr style around Ur biz and know how to source for correct products at the right price aimed at a specific target market.

I started my abroad journey here in this forum and finally got my PR in Nov 2018.
I was working in a bank here so I was able to afford money for the entire process.

Cost me about 2m exams and all including visa fees.

I left this country with my daughter she was about 2yrs old to Australia in Dec 2018 with less that AUD3k

It was really tough in the first 3months as I didn't know anyone and had a child to care for as well.
The Nigerians I met here then were not so kind but some were.

I got a factory job after a month and was able to start paying bills plus baby daycare fees.
It was really tough for me.

After 3months I got a professional job in a company I never dreamt of.
I love my job and I'm happy.

Did it pay off? hell yeah!!

I've made all I spent long time ago.
I'm comfortable and happy and love God so much because he let me go through all I did so that I can get close to him and it worked.

Don't let any make you feel that you are not enough or treat you less.

this thread is funny but I'll share anyways...I had been hustling to play football after my university days..schooled in Accra and decided to start from there hoping something works out but my parents kept insisting I come home for my nysc..I sha obeyed because I was pressured by mumcy..you know how mumcies can be na....got to Nigeria 2015 and that was the wrongest time(pardon the word wrongest)...spoke to mum about the football dream and she backed me up..immediately dad also agrees and enrolled me in an academy in abuja there..that was the beginning of the plan to leave naija o..things where so slow..so I decided to go for greener pastures abroad because the the team here in Nigeria I finally signed for never paid me a dime..finally I convinced pops to bankroll my move to Germany for a trial with Frankfurt fc but trust nigerian agents na, they ended that dream by scamming us of 4million naira and that was how my dad pulled out..he was so pissed but mum kept trying to support me...finally I met another agent after a year of sorrow and hard work...he then asked me to bring 2mill for visa and ticket and payment for his services...he finally got me a ticket and visa to Azerbaijan..with hope and thinking my hustle had finished, I got to Baku and found out the man had no club waiting for me o..lolzz...was so devastated and decided to return home and not exceed my stay.. came home and got a job after 4 yrs of chasing football..got married last year and doing well right now..sometimes I look back and laugh but it wasn't funny then o...I feel its not about leaving the country..you can be blessed here if you only get the right connect trust me..wish you all the best

Well, my travels to abroad have never been to stay there, just mostly for vacations, so nothing much to say about that. From Vancouver to New York to London to Paris to Sydney. I love traveling. My favorite destination is Singapore though (you can spend an entire month at Changi Airport and not get bored). If not for language barriers, I'll have loved South Korea too, and maybe Japan and Scandinavia.

No matter what country I visit (even my favourite Singapore), the happiest and most joyous moment of my trip is always when I land at MMIA Lagos, and see the three words highlighted in yellow- WELCOME TO NIGERIA. My heart just swells uncontrollably with joy and tears of joy flow from my eyes.

After I finished university few years back, majority of my mates started making plans to move abroad. Some succeeded and moved, while some are still at it today. However, I decided to remain in Nigeria and contribute my quota to national development, and I have never regretted it. In fact, staying in Nigeria was the best decision I've ever made in my life. What I see of some Nigerians abroad whenever I visit, especially in the US, the Middle East and most especially Asia, is not encouraging at all.


Nigeria has been a blessing to my family and I. From the almost free university education I received (without debt on my neck like my counterparts abroad) to a very fruitful business environment. Business has been booming. If I'm to be return to this earth, I'll choose to return as a Nigerian. I will forever remain in Nigeria. I can frequently go for visits abroad, maybe for a week or two, after which I'm returning back to my wonderful country. I feel sad that my fellow Nigerian youth fail to see the numerous opportunities I'm this country. All they think about is moving abroad. Even the Lebanese, Indians and Chinese have seen that Nigeria is a goldmine and are all rushing here to snatch a share of the gold.

However, everyone has different destinies. Nigeria will favour some people, while it won't favour some. Abroad will favour some, and won't favour others too.

My advice is, if you want to live a modest life, working jobs, driving one car at most, owning one house after paying mortgage over decades, then abroad is for you (legally oo, and be ready to endure excruciating amounts of racism). But if you want to be rich, Nigeria is the place to be. My wife, kids and I have chosen the later over the former.

Nigeria is the land of opportunities.

Dude it's great that Nigeria favoured YOU but unfortunately and realistically, your story doesn't apply to the vast majority of Nigerians living in Nigeria. There is no true middle class in Nigeria you are either rich or 'just getting by'.

People might read your story and feel encouraged in the moment but once they put the phone down, they are slapped in the face by the harsh reality of this HELL we call Nigeria - just one encounter with Sars is enough to make one flee this misery of a country, not to talk of the numerous bottlenecks that makes this dumpsite of a country inhabitable for sane human beings.

Trust me, I used to be a strong advocate for Nigeria myself but I got my wake up call. This country is done for!

Please get your facts right. Nigerians pay their taxes "faithfully", but our taxes are not "executed" faithfully by our leaders. Rather than look for ways to plug the corruption menace and embezzling of public funds and taxes, the government wants to increase taxes we pay. For how long will that continue? In a country where majority of the people live on 1dollar a day, lawmakers go home with over 200m a year.

The country you are in now works because the taxes people pay are well utilized. I dont mind using 70% of my salary to pay for taxes as long as the good life will be provided for me.

Get your facts right bro.

Oh and I'm tried of people shaming the modest way of life in the west. What is so bad about working a job - earning a honest living, driving a nice modern car and paying mortgage? Isn't that what normal responsible adults do?

I guess one hasn't started life until you have a fleet of useless cars, numerous poorly built houses and millions of worthless nigerian naira in your account

Mindsets like yours is why Nigeria will forever remain in a regressive state fuelled by an incurable systematic rot.
