This isn't rocket sience ni, the force accasion by banging the door is transmtted to the walls through the door frame.

This causes vibration which can only be noticed through much lighter components of the house like doors, windows etc. It will be difficult to see the walls shaking or vibrating cus of their weight.
It also a warning sign that the building contract was poorly executed cus can result to cracks in the wall at a long run.

So advice the kids to always close the doors gently and safely.
We live in era where a bag of cement can be used to complete a blog of flat.

Take for example when a force is exerted on a tree trunk, the impact is normally more visible at the branches and leaves since they're much lighter compare to the trunk where the impact was created.

ya it happens if the doors are fixed in rooms or places with linkage to each other

What normally happen is air pressure..... inflow and outflow of air

the air in the room tends to escape when one door is opening but when the door is closing the expelled air still needs to come in to fill the place (u know it can't be vacuum) there must be air inflow so the inflow of air into the room now makes the other door/window that is near-by or even has linkage to that room will vibrate as air passes its opening into the room.

watch it with curtain also....

Sorry, I just explain with local terms.... time factor pls... but I guess u wi grab.. I advice u to study resonance, effect of air pressure.... this is physics the logic may be found in physic text books....

The process is called resonance in physics. It is the transmitted vibration through the wall or other medium to the affected door.

Sound waves have nothing to do with that phenomenon.
It’s actually pressure change in the room that causes it.
Use the syringe as an example, when it’s drawn, (plunger pulled) the pressure in the syringe drops or reduces and fluid rushes in but when it’s pushed in, ( plunger pushed in) the pressure increases and there’s an impact on the opposite end...content of the syringe is compressed and fluid rushes out or if you place your finger tip on the nozzle (opening), you’ll fill air pushing on your finger...

Back to the room using the syringe analogy.
Direction of the door opening affects pressure change and whether the opposite door will swing open or shut so imagine the room or space to be some sort of vacuum. When the door is opened outwards(away from the room) the pressure drops...sucking on the air particles and opposite door closes( like drawing a syringe)

Likewise, opening the door inwards, increases pressure in the room and forces (the compressed particles) outwards. This either forces the opposite door to open or rattle on the hinges and door frame if it’s closed already.

Apologies for any typo.

This is a wrong analogy.

This is why people fail exam and they will say the lecturer is wicked.

The answer is vibrational force or resonance.

This is elementary Physics

It's called Resonance.

Greetings Nairalanders,

Please I want to ask a question, What is the synergy between doors that make the door shake or open (if properly not close). This happens whenever a door is shut or open and as a result, the other doors tend to make a sound (even though they are farther apart). Asking Google would have been a good option but don’t even know the question to ask.

A minor who happens to be my nephew keeps asking me this question and considering the fact that I do not know I always tell him it’s a normal thing and immediately send him away grin grin lipsrsealed
Just a moment ago, I gave him the same reply when he asked me the question. But this time around it increased my curiosity of wanting to know the science behind it.

So Nairalanders over to you....
I think its vibration
Re: What Makes A Door Shake When Another Is Opened Or Closed? by PogBlexiSmallin(m): 10:20am On Nov 13, 2019
Two things cause this.

Resonance, due to vibration exerted on the wall this is proportional to the forced exerted when the door is closed.

Air Pressure, this is occurs when the room is air tight. When the room is air tight and you open and close the door the window pane vibrates.

But the major cause of this is the vibration in the wall. So regardless if the room is airtight or not other doors within a house vibrate when a door is closed with great force.

is because of the lintel, the lintels of the doors and windows are channels together, that is why it have vibration, because they are connected with rods and steel tops.

Bro, it is simply atmospheric air pressure. Nothing more, nothing less. When the door opens, it either compresses the air inward or outwards depending on the direction of the door. This little air pressure is enough to generate equivalent force which then moves any object (of same weight) around it like windows, doors etc.

The door can only vibrate depends on how its installed if it's a pull door in a closed/isolated room while the other doors in the room are closed too therefore the last door pull over will caused others to shake/vibrate because of the passage of air pressure in an isolated room... It's can happen to both a pull and push door depending on the room whether it's isolated or open for Air pressure to go out... Sorry for typo..

The sound from a door when another is being closed/opened in a room is due to fluctuation in the room pressure. When all doors and windows are closed, the room pressure remains constant but as soon as you start opening one of the door there tends to be a fluctuation in the room pressure which causes the other door or window to respond in accordance to the pressure movement.

You need to clarify that you can only notice this effect in poorly installed doors. The force generated by this action is not enough to be noticed when the doors are well installed
Re: What Makes A Door Shake When Another Is Opened Or Closed? by kingjoe(m): 10:24am On Nov 13, 2019
THE answer is RESONANCE. AIR PRESSURE IS NOT THAT SIGNIFICANT INTHIS CASE.
Resonance is the sound which is produced by an object [in this case a door]when it vibrates at the same rate as the sound wave from another object[another door].this effect is also experienced when a moving vehicle can make your windows to vibrate.its resonance.it happens when two bodies have the same natural frequency.
just tell him its a principle in physics or science generally.same way we have gravity -what goes up must come down and impulse - reluctance of a moving body to stop or start.
Re: What Makes A Door Shake When Another Is Opened Or Closed? by lexyman(m): 10:26am On Nov 13, 2019
There are so many reasons for this to occur ... but one of the phenomenon is the sound wave and pressure trying to find balance in the room ...

Every time the door is opened or closed , there is always a change in pressure in the entire room /building and this translate into air movement that hit the windows or the doors immediately ...
Imperfect fittings like doors and windows will not be able to withstand such pressure ... at this point the vibrate and generates sounds from loose fittings such as hinges , on even edge , slacked rubbers etc ... causing unnecessary rattling .

If you want to hear lesser noise in the house tighten your fittings and avoid banging of doors

It's the air pressure differential in the room that causes the door movement. The air pressure in the room (atmospheric pressure 14.7psi) increases or decreases once you open the first door. If the first door swings in, the pressure in the room increases due to the force you applied while opening it. If the door swings out, the pressure in the room reduces thereby creating a vacuum effect. Either way it makes the other door(s) react and it is totally normal.

It can also be caused by vibration from the earth, heavy duty machines/engines. It can lead to cracks on the walls etc people who tend to experience this mostly are those living close to a rail station/railways etc.

I used to think that I was dumb but reading the responses on this topic, I can now confirm that I am in fact intelligent. I have always known it is due to change in pressure and nobody taught me that.

change in pressure of the room, you mostly experience it when forcefully opening a door, the window curtains and doors shakes due to the rapid change in air pressure.

I want to know why it occurs, the reasons?
from my native calculations , air pressure influx and release , also vibra waves, for every action there is an opposite reaction , like slapping a woman's butt you either get a slap back or she will rape you
