Well my refusal just came in today.
Reasons: Family ties in Canada and at home, 'limited employment opportunities in my country of residence' (WTF does that even mean? I read information technology BTW and there are a ton of IT start-ups popping up everywhere.) and current employment situation (I finished NYSC and started applying to schools immediately, didn't get a job interim because my parents thought it would be too stressful juggling school applications because I'm SS).

I'm 29...Yes, I have a bachelor's degree. There is, I graduated in 2013.

Why do you think it's difficult? I read one thread that says you have to let them know you'd come back to Nigeria even though you know you ain't coming back.

29 years old and already has a bachelor's degree won't fly honestly. But you can always try.

But why not a PGD or Master's degree?

I have a question to all those that were denied visa.

1. Did you all do upfront medicals?

2. Did you use paper route or online application?

3. Did you notarise all your signed documents, including landed properties documents?

This will help in re application and also help those that are yet to apply

Employment condition.... They're mad. I attached my employment letter and promotion letter

Ties in Canada and home country... They're sick. I uploaded properties worth 130k Canadian dollars in my name

Purpose of visit... What else was I going to do there apart from study. Why would I pay tuition if I don't want to study

Hello Dorange,

My response wasn't an attack or been in disagreement. If you properly read my previous responding post, you woud've gotten what was written clearly. The harshness in the tone of your writing was unnecessary.

To note a few point:

1. I don't comment based on hearsay.

2. I mentioned judicial review as a reference/hint to explain my view on the said topic.

3. Thousands of application was refused based on same generic reason(s). Thus, writing a letter of reconsideration does no harm but I stated my opinion of the PA reapplying due to the nature of the massive refusal and other unforeseen current circumstances.

Stay blessed.

I doubt if i ever felt it was an attack.. Lol, You are the boss here and i don't think i was harsh in my reply also.

Everyone knows the major advice is to reapply but time has gone and most admissions are for January. Reapplying now means you probably have to defer to summer or fall session next year. Hence my advise for people to consider writing to them first before finally reapplying again. Like i said if someone could get a passport request after writing to them during this same period of many refusal, its worthy for anyone to also try it.

Withdraw it now but make sure it's not a lump sum deposit. Also provide brief explanation as to the source/origin of the funds that was deposited into your account.

There is a delay in receiving GCMS note this recent times due to high request for it from prospective permanent resident applicants whose applications has exceeded the estimated processing times and also refused temporary resident applicants (study visa, visitors and work permit). Hence, there is an extension of 90 days in receiving gcms note from IRCC.

I tried the diploma bcoz the link was sent to me by my cousin that resides in Canada. I might try the PGD out since that'd make me have a better chance of getting my visa approved. Thanks boss

Truth be told, your chances of securing visa with an ordinary diploma are 3/100%, as the program you're going for in Canada is way lower than your already completed degree in Nigeria. More so, the visa officer will see you as not a bona-fide student who is using study permit as a means to abscond into Canada rather than educational advancement.

The advice from BarristerAlarig is a guided one. In a bid to increase your chances a post graduate diploma or master's in your area of specialization is the best option here.

Amongst all, the choice is yours.

All the best!

From your profile, I feel you might have not done the needful in your SOP. Hence the limited employment prospect and limited ties to Nigeria as a reason for refusal. I would advice you order your GCMS note as soon as possible, defer your admission to the next available term, rewrite a fresh SOP, this time include an LOE to address the reasons that were highlighted by the VO as well as additional information/documents that will substantiate your claims. Lastly, seek counsel from any of the knowledgeable individuals here to help vet the SOP/LOE on your behalf so as to be sure you've adequately done the right in your application.

It shall end in praises.

Good Afternoon All.

I just recieved a refusal for my study permit based on home ties and purpose of visit. Here are the details of all the documents I submitted.

Undergrad Degree certificate (First Class, Electrical & Electronics Engr, 2016)
Transcripts
MEng Admission Letter from a Uni in Canada (course of study: Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Employment Letter (employed since 2017)
Study Leave letter containing about 800k leave and passage allowance (for 2019 and 2020) and stipend of 70% of my monthly income that'll be paid to me every month while studying in Canada. It also states when I'm to resume work on completion of my masters programme.
Personal SOA - 2.1 M
Fixed deposit - 1.4M
Pension SOA - 700K
Marriage certificate
Child's birth certificate
Sponsor (Dad)- company's SOA - 30M
Business Registration details (CAC and Tax receipts)
Sponsors Support Letter
Wife's consent letter for me to go study
Police clearance cert
Waec Cert

I will probably be applying again, but I need help on two things.

1. The admission letter I used for this application now is only valid for winter 2020, I don't know if it can be deferred, and if it can self, it might take some time, whereas, I have another admission letter from another Uni that is valid for Winter 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020. Would you advise me to use this new one to re-apply? Would it affect my application in anyway if I use the new one?
2. My wife has a registered business and I forgot to submit the details of it plus the SOA, to show some sort of tie and that it might serve as funds for her while I'm away

Please Gurus in the house make una help una boy...

I regret to hear your study visa was refused. You graduated with a first class in a lucrative and exciting field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering which can easily fetch you a full funded scholarship in Canada. Grant me the privilege to ask you - Why do you want to pay exorbitantly for international tuition fees after securing such high CGPA during your undergraduate studies?. Why settle for MEng (a course based master's program in Canada)?. Is this what you truly want for yourself?

I have my reasons for throwing these questions at you because you've a higher prospect of securing funding from renowned supervisors in Canada especially when you put in your best effort. Please do have a re-think about your decision.

Now coming to your questions, you can use the new acceptance letter for your next Application, it doesn't raise eye brows nor does it cause any problem in your next application so far it's in tandem with your speciality. You can also include your wife's business registration certificate and SOA as proof that you're well established and have several commitments to carry out upon your return home.

I wish you the very best.

It shall end in praises

I am sure the 50year old woman wasn't applying for a diploma program. The 30year old guy may be going for his master's degree with a bachelor's and several years of experience. Finally, a German visa is alot easier to get than a Canadian visa.

Hello FrankRobbn1,

I want to appreciate you and all other wonderful contributors for your selfless service on this platform. The blessings allotted for givers shall surely locate you all in Jesus name, Amen.

I have been following this thread quietly reading and learning from other people's experiences. I would love to travel with my Hubby and Son for my studies but I am not sure I have seen anybody who has attempted to travel with family. Do you think it is a possibility at all? Can you give some pointers on the relevant reasons to justify this intent?

Thank you

I strongly apologize for the delayed response from me. I had mistakenly skipped your question due to several queries been pasted here with my name in quote. On the other note, thanks for the prayers and best wishes.

Certainly you can apply with your family members (spouse and kids) provided that you've the financial resources to cover for their period of stay in Canada and sufficient ties that would compel your return home after your authorized period of stay. Ties to Nigeria includes - Your aged parents whom aren't accompanying you and requires your constant care and support, rented buildings that yields income to the family, investments in banks, and holding an esteem position (president, vice president, secretary, provost) in any reputable organization in Nigeria etc.

Some of the reasons you could possibly give to justify your intent of travelling with your husband and kids for your studies in Canada can be seen below -

" First and foremost start by mentioning the names of your hubby and children whom are travelling with you to Canada. Explain in the letter that leaving your children in Nigeria will be an emotional burden to you and you may not be able to concentrate on your studies. This is because you don't have capable hands to take care of them in Nigeria. Your mother and mother in-law are in their old age and can't take care of them. Secondly, your husband work will not permit him to take good care of them. You intend to travel with them so that your husband will take care of them, while you're studying and you can also supervise them with any little time you have."

Please refer to GOINGFORWARD DETAILED SUCCESSFUL TRV PROFILE , She secured her study visa last year with her entire household (husband and kids). I trust the list of documents she included along side her application would be useful in your application.

Furthermore, bear in mind that children above 5 years must apply for a study permit before they enter Canada. You don't need to secure an acceptance in any school in Canada for them to be eligible for a study permit. All you are required to do is to search for a childcare close (creche, or primary school) to your University, attach the email conversations between you and the childcare. This would prove to the visa officer that your kids will be enrolled in school and well take care of once they arrive Canada and for this reason wouldn't be an obstacle to your studies.

I hope this information is adequate enough to provide clarity to your questions.

It shall end in praises

The person's best bet is to apply for a PhD since the candidate already has a M.eng and should contact supervisors in Canada that share similar research interest with him/her.

Also, I would appreciate if this person in question could come here to ask his/her questions.

Recent refusals based on Employment

It is your duty to explain your current employment stance to the VO. They want to understand that you have a viable job in Nigeria that can lure you and also want enough proof to verify that your program in Canada will boost your employability in Nigeria.

Common Mistakes:
1.submitting employment documents showing low remuneration and expecting the VO to believe that will convince you to come back to Nigeria.

2. Showing proof of employment in a company/Organization that cannot be verified. I once did an open source search on the CAC website and found out a particular company used by an applicant still uses an old land line number!!!!

3. VO's do verify social media platforms. So are you using your uncles company as proof of employment and your LinkedIn shows you're working elsewhere

4. Work experience not correlating with previous education program or proposed program in Canada.

5. Not proving why the program in Canada is of any reasonable expense or how it helps to boost your employment chances in Nigeria.

6. Claiming to study in a field that is technically dormant in Nigeria and hence little chance of employment. For example studying a program in Nuclear physics and claiming to apply the skill set back in Nigeria!

7. Stating that your employee will give a 2yr study leave! in Nigeria that is almost not possible unless you're a top ranked official or extremely important.

This are just some of the many mistakes regarding refusals based on employment reasons. Please avoid this mistakes. All the best.
