Hello Guys,

I arrived Canada on the 1st of September. It has not been easy. If I knew what I know now I would have thought seriously about this school thing. God has been merciful to me. My advice to anyone coming to BC...don't count on the idea that you can work part time to pay your fees or survive here. I live in Vancouver Island and attend VIU. Most of my classmates are Indians and most of them are only interested in getting residence. They get visa easily and can take a loan from their local bank to deposit money for their fees. If you ever get into project groups with them you are on your own. You will do the work yourself because they really don't care about their grades.

If you are coming to VIU or anywhere in BC, please come with Nigerian food stuffs like dry pepper and palm oil. Its very expensive. Don't joke o. Carry indomie..it is a life saver. I came with Garri Ijebu and groundnut. I came with pepper soup spice (fish and meat is cheap). Come with umbrella, rain boot and rain coat...it rains like hell in Vancouver and Vancouver Island but its not as cold as the other parts of the freezer (Canada is freaking cold...no bi joke) I brought all the Igbo food stuffs I can carry and forgot income. Please carry coffee and milo. You will thank me for it.

I stayed at an airbnb for one week before I found a house. Its not cheap and also because I wanted my family to join me I needed to get a bigger house and used the rent agreement in the visa application for my family. I applied for their visa on the 23rd and they received approval last two weeks.

People on this island are seem nice (like British nice..they pretend). There are jobs during holidays like now..everyone is hiring part-time workers. People here will tell you that come January...it is dry. No Work!!!

My advice to anyone coming to BC or even Canada; go and learn something. Guys, if you can learn how to cut hair..you will be very comfortable. You won't need to do any silly part time work. Ladies if you can learn to weave hair and fix weavon...you will be ok..trust me...you will be a big shot!. Don't come here thinking you can just do part time work and pay your fees without getting into trouble. I am not saying you can't wing it but trust me even if you work 20 hours a week which is the maximum you can work as a student...you still can't do more than manage to pay your rent and barely survive. If you are on th MBA program then forget it. Canada is looking for talents and not C grade students. They now look at your transcript when you apply for post graduate work permit or apply for PR. Don't think you can wing it...you need time to study.

BC is the most beautiful; place I have ever been in my life...trust me I have travelled to 16 countries including 20 states in the US and most of Europe. BC is wild beauty and you wonder what tourism potentials we really have in Naija. When you come here you will fall in love with nature. They also don't have good food. There is nothing like Canadian food. It doesn't exist. Their food no sweet...simple and short (I am a foodie and chef so I authoritatively tell you). Nigerians here are the worst people I have ever met. When they get here they see you and ignore or avoid you. I understand why the ladies will do that...you no bi oyibo and you no fit give them paper. But for guys...thats silly. Some of them try to speak with oyibo accent. For God's sake I had this accent since I was a child so stop it...it doesn't fit you...lol

I wish everyone applying for visa good luck. If you are coming to Vancouver Island University please let me know if you need any information or help. I can point you towards things like accommodation etc.; ask God to let his Will be done. I am not sure I will have the time to help review applications because I have exams starting next week till second week in December. Afterwards I will have all the time in the world.

Follow them up o, as a matter of fact, I am experiencing the same issue with Conestoga college. The level of nonchalance is alarming. Mine is 10 weeks now.

In my last message to them, I told them I will proceed to tag Canadian government officials on social media with my complaint if they don't give me a definite timeline to issue the refund(The initial timeline they gave was 6-8 weeks). They moved the refund to a new stage the same day and later told me it will take an additional 2-4 weeks.

So don't wait at all, follow up.

I have so much interest studying in Canada but due to several visa denials I have to consider applying to a university in Germany.

I am currently a student of Bergische Universität Wuppertal Germany studying computer simulation in science.

I was offered an admission to study Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria Canada and this time I am applying for Canadian student visa from Germany. Please I need a help to write a strong SOP to convince the VO.

The document can be in form of a membership/indigne certificate. The ID card can/should reflect your active/sensitive held position. I am sorry, I won't be able to scrutinize your letter but for your documents, you can paste it here and other knowledgeable individual will be able to contribute useful information on how to make it solid.

Traveling out has been on my mind for some years now either for studies (mechanical engineering)which is the only course I ever want to study or for work (menial jobs)... My problem now is how do I cope with mechanical engineering over there even though my maths background is very poor (never liked mathematics including other calculation courses from primary till I finished my ND).. On the other hand, if I travel out with the aim of working over there instead of studying, how easy will it be for me getting a better paying job considering the fact that I don't have much qualifications...

Sorry, I have to beginning my response to your question with a (curious) question. Why would you force yourself from the incipient on engineering course when clearly you know your ability in calculation is poor?

What is your CGPA and the last 2yrs GPA?


What type of ND do you have?

What 'don't have much' qualification do you infer to?


However, with the provided profile about yourself, Germany might just be the best bet. If you are able to provide answers to the asked questions, people might be able to guide you better.

Your work experience won't count. The two fields are of the opposite. However, you can relate your prospect course to your previous study. This would make the convincing of being a genuine student easy. Also endeavour to have tangible reason for wanting to study a post diploma program after a B.sc. You have to be very convincing about this.

As for the required documents, go to the first page of part 15 or IRCC website or go through this thread or the previous to see the documents of past successful applicants related to your case.

Almost all Canadian university don't give funding for undergraduate programs except maybe sponsored scholarship. However contact your prospective school for first-hand information about this.

Print out the biometrics instruction letter and for with a photocopy biodata of your PP. Also go with sized passport copies.

I have been a silent reader on this thread for a while but I need an advice at the moment urgently.

I am 30yrs old with ND & HND in Petroleum Engineering Technology . However, in the final year of my HND program, I signed up for 1yr apprenticeship in Pipe and Argon Welding , and I have practiced this profession for 3yrs now.

I wish to pursue Canada PR, either by Study and EE.

I got a 2yrs Welding/Metal Fabrication Certificate course in College of North Atlantic, Canada. Spoke to my boss about it and he is willing to support with all necessary documents.

My plan is to apply for this Certificate course, although self sponsored, my uncle is willing to offer his SOA and necessary docs and stand as sponsor. my company is also will to issue documents such as : employment letter, reference letter, ID card pay slip, study leave approval letter etc. Since my aim is Welding career advancement.

For ties to Canada and home country; two of my cousins studied in Canada, both of whom are on PGWP. For home ties; my job, a plot of land, my wife, we also jointly have an incorporated restaurant business , my parents and siblings are in Nigeria

My Challenges:

1. chances of gettn a visa, Considering I already have HND in diff. field, then going for Trades/Vocational Cert. course.

2. Possibility of applyn for Open Work Permit/spousal sponsorship for my wife.

To an extent, age doesn't play much role. Based on the details you provided regarding your academic history, going for a second bachelor or a diploma isn't advisable but note that its also not impossible to secure you a visa. It all boils down to how well you present your application and the perspective approach the VO would apply to scrutinize your application.

As it stands, a Master is more suitable to count as an advancement. But however, a PGD/C should be considered only if you decide not to declare your previous PGD. As for your SOP, only state what is relevant to your application. It is good you focus more on the weak-links in your application in order to provide better clarity.

Its advisable you apply to at least two schools for improved possibility of admission.
