I agree with you. Before I gained admission in 2009, I was earning about 80k monthly as a secretary in a Livestock business. I was paid weekly (ie I was paid atleast 20k weekly). Since after graduation, life hard. I have lost count of interviews. God, I even bought my first land at 17. Now nko, nothing to my name. If I had overlooked that admission, by now I would have been really established. But no wahala, it happened, now I'm fighting hard trying to be the best I can be. Demands from family, friends, relatives all weighing me down.
TheMatrix3:

The truth of the matter is this "education in Nigeria" issa big scam: No matter how brilliant u are, out of every 100 graduates, only about 15 will get "good jobs". The rest will scout for jobs until they get depressed. Its the way of life. 48,000+/batch of graduates pass out of NYSC 3x a year, NNPC, SHELL, MOBIL, BELEMA, TOTAL all IOC and Govt agencies will scarcely take a total of 10,000 yearly, so what will the rest do?
The solution is simple: tell your younger ones and kids: education is a mirage: learn a life skill, dont leave carpentary, electrician, plumbing (artisan jobs) for "illiterates". You can be a cook or a tailor and make it in life *drops mic*

One way or the other, we all really need to get some form of closure from the completion of this recruitment process. It is so hard to stay focus even for some of us that are being underpaid talkless of the unemployed fellows, you should know better unless you are not among one of the hopefuls.

I'm sorry, but when I hear '... demands from family', I seem not to understand, or are you not the one bringing the pressure on yourself? Yes they struggled to see you through school, and then DEMANDS!

I know parents are here, and singles like myself are also here, hear this truth.

Your financial investment as a parent ends in the establishment of your child and not in the university graduation. If your plan stops at sending your child to the best school, then I'm sorry. If your parental logo is "invest in your child today to reap from him or her tomorrow", I'm sorry.

Yea I know, Africa, culture. But a scenario where your child is still trying to find his base, and you've started placing demands, is really sad.

"Stephen, we've sent you to school, you will see your brother through school, there's no money". Just listen to this, a statement made to someone who completed service, April this year.

And you know, parents of this present economy will not learn, produce 5,6,7 children, and then burden the first with the welfare of others.

It is in Africa you see a man take care of his home, his father's family, wife's family, and maybe Nigeria as a whole. And then unnecessary pressure everywhere on the man.

Demands ko, demands ni...

Forgive my use of words.

It will be funnier if you say, Demand kor, Supply ni ... cheesy cheesy
But really, people should learn to say No when they're not capable, or better still don't complain.
Reason over emotions. Even if you must struggle on your siblings, not the ones that'll be using your hard earned money to gamble (bet9ja) saying he's hustling, or shayo or the one that has a CGPA that can't flash grin grin

These demand and supply were some of the answers to interview question that some people were asked during interview.

Try saying "No" when your dad and mum (God forbid) are critically ill and on the verge of dying, try saying "No" to a sibling of yours whom you know is genuinely trying to make himself somebody through his studies. Try saying "No" when they are about to evict your family and throw your parents' properties out.

As unfair as it sounds, it is the situation the average African first born child finds him/herself. Las las, we cannot kill ourselves but we must act with diplomacy as we cannot run away from it, using the word "No" will only do more harm than good. Unless you have a heart of stone.
