God help us all. The truth is just that there are cabals everywhere...... It's not only in the power sector, but almost at every sector of this country. Some rich coded guys are milking millions from our misfortune....

They will do everything within their power to slow down power sector's development, so as to encourage consistent patronage of their products. The truth is that, these sets of people are only preparing uncontrollable hardship for their unborn generation.

The question is when will Nigerians hold their leaders accountable? If Nigerians march on to the streets by the millions demanding specific reforms and deadlines, organize a nationwide strike, surround Also Rock, start thinking of both APC and PDP as common trash and rally behind a popular candidate who is not corrupted by the politics. It may seems like much, but all of what I'm saying happen in places with democracy and constant electricity. This is the kind of work that it's going to take. But as long as people are willing to stay silent, ignorant and divided; things might not change even in 400 years.

Same Electricity that 16 BILLION DOLLARS was spent on by a former past president.

It is a shame!

And in saner climes many people grow up never witnessing what power failure is all their lives.
They only see it on TV'S!

We only pray we get there soon as a nation.
Destroyed Foundation!

You've said it all.
That is the situation we find ourselves as a nation.
Terrible.

ALAGOGO007:
For many years now, Nigeria has been facing an extreme electricity shortage. This deficiency is multi-faceted, with causes that are financial, structural, and sociopolitical, none of which are mutually exclusive. Nigeria’s power sector has high energy losses from generation to billing, a low collection rate and low access to electricity by the population. There is insufficient cash generation because of these inefficiencies and the power sector is consequently reliant on fuel subsidies and funding of capital projects by the government.

At present only 10 % of rural households and 40% of the country’s total population have access to electricity. Power supply difficulties cripple the agricultural, industrial and mining sectors and impede the Nigeria's ongoing economic development. The energy supply crisis is complex, stems from a variety of issues and has been ongoing for decades.

As of December 2013, the total installed or nameplate capacity (maximum capacity) of the power plants was 6,953 MW. Available capacity was 4,598 MW. Actual average generation was 3,800 MW. As of December 2014, the total installed capacity of the power plants was 7,445 MW.

The minister for power Babatunde Fashola said that 90 million Nigerians lack electricity supply. This is an indictment of the government and a clarion call on that same government as well as other stakeholders to do something urgently about the wobbling electricity supply situation in the country. Every year, the Nigerian government invest huge amout of money in the power sector with no positive impact, something seems not right!

The big question is, are we going to witness a stable power supply in our lifetime , will it ever happen?
since we moved from giant to been ant of Africa things changed

YES! we can but something has to b done first which is, the Government must mandate supply of PRE-PAID METRES to every house in Nigeria and if this is 100% done, then every other thing will follow thereby putting d DISCO in a tight corner bcs they must give me constant light for my metre to Read for my card to get finished then pay for more. failure to do so; it means I won't also buy more cards and they won't have more money as well in their bank account. that's my take on this issue. truth bn told, what they generate is far far higher than what to distribute or supply to their consumers.

first of all,let us know that electricity generation and distribution is not rocket science, they are easy.....But cabals e.g those who import generators and diesel will never allow it,cause it will spoil their business...we need a sincere leader who will fight them head on,But wilth the way things are in Nigeria,it will take a long time before Nigeria enjoy it,i have been to Ghana and Burkina Faso, throughout my stay there,i never for once experienced an outage,it is just sad that Nigerians are treated this way,and the funny part is that they seem to enjoy the way Leaders treat them, though they cant really do Sh!t...cos they dont we dont have the liver for now to effect the necessary changes, people who dared in the past to challenge the staue quo paid dearly for it,Sowore is a recent example,But God will help us all!

We must first of all do away with National grid, which country still does that sh!t nw?....Let every State Generate its electricity for the state consumption, the excess can be sold to neigbouring states who cant generate enough

You fcckin smart.
You just provided a lasting solution that will be effective in the next 10yrs if implemented judiciously.
Will the power above allow it? Thats another question of the day.

Well, Pearl Garden, Paradise, Centenary and Queen's Park estates just off G.U Ake Rd all have nearly 24hrs power supply. Rent in those areas aren't as expensive as Ajah in Lagos. You can get a decent 2 bedroom flat in those places for about 500k and slightly higher. I know folks who pay 300k for such apartments but they are residents who moved in when there wasn't even electricity in those places.
thanks alot for this information.

Power generation, transmission and distribution is not rocket science. To solve our power problem, we need to decentralize it and allow States to generate their own power and creat their own grid. Even individuals should be allowed to generate power and feed to the grid and get paid.
