That's fine

This is not fine at all. NTA cannot be borrowing from tax payer and government. They should go to the bank and demonstrate their ability to pay. What is this na? Gross domestic product is deceptive. How much does NTA collects from Nigeria govt? We need to know their net profit and financial statement in the last 3 years

Those in charge are already licking their lips because of how they will loot this loan if granted.

thanks for your questions i honour it alot. The funny truth is that none matters as far as nairaland is concern, it only mattes when we unite and walk up to the govt for accountabilities and accredibilities. So now on positivity, it is not only centered on the govt but on the young citizens mindset as well. While the negativity implies you are not in line wit d significance of the loan if proven 2 be productive, perhaps u can as well say we terminate d loan nd duel behind d shadows of d world. We as a citizens re charge 2 applaud or criticize a govt. Note wateva u re posting here is nt taken 2 any govermental arm, it is btween ourselves, so why post ill comments, when u knw our children or siblings re hear seeking knowledge. Now imagine how ill comments or bad information shape the believe or mindset of childrn.

Admittedly, the headline is misleading, but you are still defending the indefensible. Nigerian leaders are some of the worst in the world, and those in APC are no exception. And anyone who defends them is no better than they are.

Do you know what $500m is? Even the so-called $11m is just too much. Perhaps Lai Mohammed wants to cut his own share of the national cake.

Mind you, the NTA stations were not established by one administration, so why are you upgrading everything at the same time? Why not do it in phases? Digitize Lagos and Abuja stations as pilot schemes. Use that to assess how others would be.

It's funny how he compares NTA to CNN. Aside from those in rural communities, who still watches NTA these days? The major channel through which the traditional media generates funds is ads. And advertising is gradually going digital because digital marketing offers more benefits than the traditional media channels. Again, the point is that they want to borrow a whopping $500m. Now that begs the question, "Can they repay the loan?" How do they plan to do that? Through glo ads?

Until we have people who will start managing this country like they run companies, we will keep fooling ourselves in this country. After borrowing and looting the money, they will leave that vacuum for the next government.

With the way the APC criticized Jonathan, I thought these nonentities had a much better idea.
Love your comment. I watched Tvc news yesterday, I saw their graphics, and studio however I doubt if they spent up to 1/6 of the proposed budget by the minister of culture

Oga calm down, for your info quora wasn't built with $850 million dollars. what the heck are they building inside quora.

11 milliom dollars is even too expensive to improve the dead NTA station, I say so because NTA can't tell me they have no fond of their after years of active service.

If NTA isn't developed till today, it's because of the same reason while Nairaland isn't still developed, a blackman see no benefit in improvement, if it doesn't have any immediate gratification or gain.
Hmmmm! Is that why blacks find it difficult to excel in their businesses except a few?

Compete with CNN on what grounds?

500m USD can be put to better use

1. CNN is not a state-owned organization. A better comparison would have been the BBC which has a variety of channels

2. NTA is not a news only channel so i wonder why they are striving to be like CNN

3. NTA's problem goes further than digitalization. Digitalize it all you can, if they are not objective in their news coverage, no one will watch it!

I wonder why that ministry is comparing NTA with CNN. They haven't upgraded their philosophy and policy to be at par with Tvc news, they are comparing themselves with CNN.SMH

In opinion NTA is the only tv station that has ever since preserve and broadcast the cultures, tribes, believes, traditions, histories, facts, mineral resources, manpower, craftmanship etc, of Nigeria. You need to learn to read slowly and understand. Kindly point out where I said Quora was built with millions of dollars?

If $11 is too much, kindly give an estimate of what would do the job angry

Or do you guys think it's just a one station? It's all stations in Nigeria with standard equipments..
11 million dollars in approximately 4 billion naira, coupled with the fund NTA already has(i.e if corruption helped them save any). Remember we are not building a new TV station, we are renovating the one that has already existed with many of the staff already on government payroll.

When people call some extremely large amount, many of you lot think since it is for so and so, it is worth it.

Come let me ask you Mr man. If you're the owner of $500 million dollars will you give to Lia Mohammed to invest? I need your sincere response

I thought that NTA just needs to change their transmission from SD to HD, that they produce in HD and they have hitech equipment. Why $500m just to digitize.

NTA has state-of-the-art equipment and broadcasts in HD but that high quality production is converted to Standard Definition (old technology) because at the point of transmission is not digitized.

Maybe to buy one or two good camera and change that Hausa theme song would be nice.

Look zombie, you need to try better. If you believe $11m is going to change NTA to CNN. Do you know how many of those NTA branches we have scattered throughout Nigeria that are practically useless?
NTA is an inefficient behemoth present in almost every town in Nigeria where they work sometimes between 4pm to 10pm. You really think $11m is going to turn those wastes into something productive? NTA's model is not geared towards productivity or efficiency. It is simply a govt propaganda machinery of waste just like Radio Nigeria.

It's quite a shame on you to be among the people who affirms a belief that social media might have come too early to Nigeria.
Everyone child wants to comment even on matters they are totally ignorant about. What do you know about TV stations both analogue and digital? I mean can you even afford a TV set?

Did you and the 'first to comment crew' even try to read the report to the end? No. You just read "$500m" and then your adrenaline pushes you type whatever...

No doubt, the proposed social media regulation would have helped a lot.

Go to Quora or other educative websites and you'd see it will cost about $850m to setup a TV station. But you didn't even read the part where Lai said....

... the loan was aimed at establishing the media and culture industry centre at the cost of $245m, digitise all NTA stations at $11m and construct integrated television services to infuse on network, .......

Instead you were bent on making bold every letter you need to expose your ignorance.

You must be a government contractor. How do you entrust such an amount of money in the hands of gluttons. Or are you one of "them"?

They can't do that because they have a lot of mushroom stations scattered all over the country who don't have digital broadcasting tech. These stations need to log in every night and broadcast the 9pm news and can only do so at SD.

NTA works fine right now. Why waste money to upgrade when we might not even have a country in a couple of years to come?

Not like it's going to break even, not to talk of recouping what was spent on it.

Mr analyst,so it makes sense for an appendage institution like NTA to borrow such a whopping money to grow a non existing business. How has NTA contributed to music, movies and other digital contents market in Nigeria that they are seeking that leverage on.
This is a big scam and can not fly.Have you seen any women on AlJazeerah network covered in Hijab anchoring programmes? That is a purley islamic state but they understand perfectly the business of a global TV audience. NTA will use quota system to recruit and run stations instead of the best talents which could even come outside of the country. Stop writing drivel driven epistle to make your point. WE ALL CAN SEE AND DISCERN TALES BY MOONLIGHT WHEN IT IS VERY OBVIOUS.

A while ago, many people would scream about reformig NTA. The display is whack, their staff is this and that...... Here is a way out and then it's another complaint again

After reading my mentions, I still could see the reason why a white man's Twitter thrives better than Nairaland even within Nigeria. The old people outgrew here

Well, we currently have 12 centers in the country.

And one other person was asking me the use ; well, I'd ask you to make research yourself. But nevertheless, it's meant to promote, preserve your culture and also a means of job creation
