Supreme Court Fines Afe Babalola, Olanipekun N60 Million by Nobody: 6:02pm On Feb 26, 2020
The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, fined Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) N30 million each for agreeing to file an application for the review of the apex court’s judgment on Bayelsa election.

Justice Amina Augie announced the fine while reading the judgment in the applications for a review of its February 13, 2020 judgment which overturned the All Progressives Congress’ victory in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State.

With tears in her eyes, the justice regretted that “very senior” lawyers were responsible for filing the applications.

Subsequently, the apex court awarded the costs of N10m to be personally paid by David Lyon’s lawyer, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), and APC’s lawyer, Olanipekun (SAN).

It ruled that each of the lawyers must pay the N10m to each of the three respondents – the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Duoye Diri, and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhruojakpo, bringing the total amount to be paid to N60 million.

She said the applications amounted to an invitation for the apex court to sit in appeal on its own judgment in violation of the Constitution.

Oh yes. Now some lawyers moving the appeal for Zamfara case and Imo may start considering withdrawing their appeal especially that of Zamfara where there is no clear ground for review of the case since no new fact against the judgement has emerged since then.

So is now a crime to ask for a review? sad
Modified I saw your quotes, I hope the supreme court would do the same for IMO state.

Lool. Let them enjoy the fine now. After all, afe babalola is the richest lawyer in aftica. He can afford the whole sum. Abi is it your fine? Is it your review? grin. Hope other lawyers would learn from this .

By the way, bayelsa state is a state where the impossible can become possible and the antecedents have shown. In the late 90s, the then first military administrator posted to serve in the state by Abacha took ill and became incapacitated. My uncle, who had been thinking of resigning voluntarily was suddenly picked to replace him...he's Nav. Capt. Olubolade. In same vein, alameiyeseiha was sacked and jonathan became governor. Same Goodluck Jonathan, who never thought of being vice president, let alone president was picked by the pdp to run with late yaradua and timipre silva too became governor due to this. Now, history is repeating itself in same miraculous way.

The moral of the story is this...no matter what in life, what would be, would be. I just pity those struggling for positions, most of them would hardly get it. If you're destined for a position even if you're in the den of lion, you'd be found . President buhari had once lost hope. He even wept when he lost to Jonathan...not even the pdp could ever think Buhari would be present of Nigeria today.

It's just so unfortunate for David Lyon. The incompetence of the so called competent lawyers Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), and Olanipekun (SAN) cost him a good 4 years mandate. They claim to be the best of the best but failed to understand that when you are dealing with court case concerning a change of name, you don't come with a mere "AFFIDAVIT" as if you are dealing with banks. You need a court stamped "DEED POLL" because that's the only document the court will recognise.

E no go better for the All Progressive Criminals for causing this nobel justice of the court to shed tears for those two 'senior' lawyers.

The only judgement that truly required a
review was the IMO ruling.

Oshiomole always feels he's smart.
Because the PDP asked for a review in IMO
he also jumped in with Bayelsa, Zamfara ...

See now, all the profits Afe Babalola has made from his
University will be used to pay fine.

David Lyon may be too broke to assist them with such huge amount

So, Zamfara, Imo is off limits.

That means that IMO is APC, Zamfara is PDP.

That also means no review either of the Presidential election verdict too
