Hello buddie,

Please, who knows that exact cost of SEVIS FEE in Naira and the Reciprocity fee?

Is there any issue if one applied to just one school?

Thanks.

Hello everybody...

Please I submitted my application for my masters in Biology (biological science / biomedical science) for 5 different schools in the US for Fall 2020 (Kent State Uni, Georgia State Uni, East Tennessee State Uni, Virginia commonwealth Uni and southern Illinois Uni).

My applications were all submitted on January 10th, 2020 except for southern Illinois Uni that was submitted since November 2019. Until now, I haven’t gotten any response yet from any of the schools.

My profile is:

BSc. Cell Biology and Genetics (2nd class upper (3.29/4.0 according to WES))
IELTS 7.5 (R 8.0, L 8.0, S 7.0, W 6.5)
GRE 296 (149 quant, 147 verbal, 3.5 A.W)
Letters of recommendation and ongoing job experience as a lab scientist (nysc).

Please does anyone have any idea on when I’m supposed to hear back from these schools? I know Admission decisions normally come in from February, but it’s not really easy waiting. I also applied for GA.

Place a call in to each of these schools and ask when they make admission decision.. You ought to have gotten a decision from ETSU. Are you sure your app is complete?

Sevis Fee: 125, 000; Reciprocity fee: 41, 000.

Yes, it could be a problem if you apply to one school. Consular wouldn't look at you as a serious students. However, this is not to say you cannot get your visa.

Hi, what program did apply for at ETSU? You may have to call the program specialist to find out what is going on with your application. I applied to ETSU as well for Biomedical sciences and I was told when I am likely to get a response. I sent you a PM, reply so we can connect.

Hello Everyone. I don't know if this information will be useful to anyone. I am currently enrolled for a Masters program at Lamar University Beaumont and I got tuition waiver and scholarship on arrival in the US which is about 50% off my tuition fees. I also got accepted for graduate assistantship. The school is much more affordable than most of the schools I see on this platform. Please Dm me if you are interested in the school.

YES. By asking you. (And the VO can ask you to prove it.... with your letters of admission).

I think he assumed that the VO may ask to see the other schools admit letter to be sure he applied n get accepted there or rejected.

But I think the person asking that question shouldn’t have come here to ask the question. Why did he not apply to many school, instead of coming here to seek validation for his/her intended lie.

Have you emailed the Graduate coordinator and Director of graduate studies, these two are the best to tell you the status of your application...Also check gradcafe.com, search for your schools and course....you would know if they have started issuing out admission and rejects

There is no difference between what an MS and PhD student experience during the interview. The basic, personal questions are usually the same, exxept your case is different. My advice is that, craft personalised responses to potential, inevitable questions and make sure your delivery is smooth. What help do you need actually?

I need help with the Do's and Don't of this type of interview , Inevitable questions and what type of questions to ask them. Is it proper to ask the interviewers the amount of stipend they are offering? Is it acceptable to ask for expected feedback time for the result of the interview? Does the interview follow the same format as regular job interviews? This are questions I need help with

Just be calm and confident in your responses. I had 4 interviews with different schools and what I noticed was they only want to get to know you better and also verify your English proficiency. Make sure you know your SOP in and out. I don't feel it's okay to ask them about the amount of stipend they'll be offering. Just focus on convincing them why you're a good fit for their program. You could ask questions like "What are the roles of the teaching assistants in your department?", "Are grad students required to take courses outside their area of interest or just courses pertaining to their field?"
It'll go smoothly, trust me. Don't worry!

I was asked about my Motivation and why I want to study there. Try and read the professor recent papers/articles or ongoing lab work as you might have little interaction on what he is working on. The interview are mostly non-technical. More of an interactive session. Mine though was a one on one interview
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by omomayelakesi: 3:26pm On Mar 01, 2020
Thank you mvem. I don't know if it is going to be just one professor or the admission for this particular school. They only told me I will be having an interview soon. There is a professor am interested in working with and I have started studying her papers.

dislike sneaky requests. Ask yourself how would what you have written here be of any help to others when they read much later when you’ve got what you’re after. If there’s anything I regret is responding privately to people who couldn’t even out of common courtesy to share their admission and funding decisions and steps they took from then on, they just ghosted...bunch of selfish people steady lurking around to always take take and TAKE

Your previous comment asked for PhD schools, now you’re asking people to help you/a guy to make a decision on funded offers.

Tell a guy to share which schools are offering what because people who do also know how to keep secrets but you are here because they were foolish enough to put up their embarrassing scores grades and even average school admissions.

By the way how is any of this your business sef...Are you his father? Let who has time and data tell you and a guy what to do about top school, average school and stipends.
Faloh:
Hello all

A guy is in need of your opinions on an issue.

He has two admits now, one from a top school and the other from an averagely ranked school.

The top school offered a year fellowship worth 30k usd for his first year only, which he will pay instate tuition rate of about 4k each per semester. Leaving him with 22k for the year to cater for stipends and medical insurance. They said he will have to meet professors during his first year and get a research assistantship to cater for the remaining years of his phd. He was told by ex students of the school that he is highly likely to secure assistantship so far he is not rigid as regards research interests.

For the other averagely ranked school, a professor has agreed to provide him full funding for the duration of his studies. He has had a chat with him via skype and they discussed about the project. The professor said it is funded by DOE and several companies are interested in the outcome of the research. Although, the professor is yet to send his offer, he promises to send it soon. Will this make getting job easy? Internships?... his thoughts.

He needs advice on which could be a better option. He is interested in getting a job after his phd and not to be in academics.

Often times it’s usually a get to know you kind of thing. If you’ve got any research experience, you should be prepared to talk about it. No problem if you don’t, just be prepared to talk about your research interests (you could read a few papers) and how and why you want to do research with them.

You don’t have to ask questions about funding, as you’re still being considered for an admission. Asking about how international students are supported is not out of place, besides, ‘supported’ is a more inclusive term that could mean anything including finances.

Try to be as relaxed as possible, as it usually English speaking proficiency they look out for especially when the fellowship includes a teaching assistantship. the GRE or TOEFL isn’t as reliable going by their experience as it’s often being hacked in some countries.

Search on Google for tips as well. Good luck!

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to get an on-campus job while still here in Nigeria. Is it also possible for stipends from this job to reflect on my i20?

Why I ask this, I was offered just tuition scholarship at ETSU cos there are no more GA positions, therefore left with living cost, about 18k usd. I'm so much looking into cutting this down to bolster my chance.

All advises would be appreciated.

Thanks y'all.
