Silly question: Is there any possibility that there will be no markdown on stocks this year? Because everything is ridiculously undervalued - especially the banks. Marking down shares at these prices would be wickedness. How a healthy bank that made N208 billion in 2019 (and has more than N900 billion in retained earnings), is trading at a N600 billion market cap (barely 3X earnings), is perplexing.

There will always be a mark down for dividends.

You are now seeing what investors have seen but invincible to traders.

Hold cash and come back to the market in September 2020.

The lower the prices of such banks the better for the buyers.

That is the irrationality in the stock market. And if the market has always been rational how will people be making money

Being an investor pays, especially with good and healthy stocks.
I'm really eyeing that section now with the digital trading in vogue.......one can always monitor his/her portfolio and the coys performances.
Will just build on two stocks first, then start adding additional one by one as funds show.
The secret is to lay low and strike during panic or bad news time when prices are low, by God's grace.

You don't know how long the panic will last, but if you are liquid, have an uninterrupted cash flow or you have a minimum of 2 years of your living expenses in cash or money market funds you have nothing to fear and you are good to go.

The main cause of the panic and fear is when people have all their funds in the market, no uninterrupted cash flow and they will need to sell their shares in order to be liquid

Banks are very dicy, remember Lehman Brothers, very sweet company with great financials numbers, even paid dividends a year before they wind down..................All Banks including GT can fold any minute especially if Coys in their loan books become troubled, Skye, Diamond comes to mind........ When the going is good for Banks, its fantastic but when the going is bad Banks are the most catstrophic investment

Not all banks can fold at any time. Any business that is badly run no matter how systemic important it is, it will go down. Gtbank and Zenith bank the way they are currently being managed cannot fold up any minute. There has to be signs at first.

Badly managed banks will not go down over night they usually give signs 12 to 24 months before they go under.

Intercontinental bank, Oceanic bank, Skye Bank gave enough signs, I didn't not have diamond Bank shares so I am not sure if it gave signs.

Fbnh leaped with whooping 50kobo today to close at 5.65.
I knew it will reverse up with the crazy bids below 4.50.
The moneybag with 30M single bid below 4.50 has been surfacing regularly these days. Another 20M moneybag joined him. If something is not after them, then they're after something. That was how 100M single bid was pursuing it at btw N3-N4 then, the guy must have smiled to the bank when it hit N12.
Only dicerning mind can understand this ......but someone said it's fake bid. lipsrsealed

** Na my own I just talk o, not promoting Fbnh, I dont even have it.......but I think whosoever is interested could set his/her trap at N4 region again, if fear go gree you.*

@Bolded not entirely correct. Diamond and Skye had issues for a long time before their fate, Diamond for at least 6 years. Bank's with modestly good risk management, controls and governance don't fail overnight but they are few. Its just that as an outsider one may not really know what is happening inside and CBN won't reveal anything till it gets very messy. Retail investors in bank are advised to not only read financial statements and ratios but also look for stories on the lifestyles of executive management and key owners.

Some of them just use their ownership and control as vehicle for other gigs.

If not Covid-19,Wapco,Uacn and oando would have spring surprises in 2020.

But Mcy,now the euphoria has change a bit,it's better to reduce holdings now.50% cash,50% shares.

Just my thinking
