With the recent travel ban does this limit the chances of international students assimilating themselves into the US?

As in it still advisable to go?

Just asking abeg

Just yesterday, someone got his visa even with no funding. Establish yourself as a genuine student and you should be fine.

Hello everyone, a friend just directed me here to ask my F1 related questions

Ok so, I want to apply for Fashion Design certificate program at a community college in US. I won’t need to write any exams or submit any important documents like my transcript. My friend thinks it is a bad idea because it is a community college and I won’t be writing any exam to get in.

House please what do you think? I want to know what my options are before going to the embassy for interview. Thanks.

Please is it really a bad idea to apply to a community college and not write any exams? Waiting for a response, thanks.

It's a bad idea applying to a community college that doesn't even need a transcript from you.
Why not apply to a university instead?

The community college is way cheaper and offers the course I want to study (Fashion Design) as a certificate course and not degree.

From recent trends, I do not think it is advisable to apply to those type of schools and get a visa. Instead, there are masters degree courses in design related fields. I remember reading an approved visa transcript of that course in part 14 of this thread. It is a much better alternative.

Hello everybody...

Please I submitted my application for my masters in Biology (biological science / biomedical science) for 5 different schools in the US for Fall 2020 (Kent State Uni, Georgia State Uni, East Tennessee State Uni, Virginia commonwealth Uni and southern Illinois Uni).

My applications were all submitted on January 10th, 2020 except for southern Illinois Uni that was submitted since November 2019. Until now, I haven’t gotten any response yet from any of the schools.

My profile is:

BSc. Cell Biology and Genetics (2nd class upper (3.29/4.0 according to WES))
IELTS 7.5 (R 8.0, L 8.0, S 7.0, W 6.5)
GRE 296 (149 quant, 147 verbal, 3.5 A.W)
Letters of recommendation and ongoing job experience as a lab scientist (nysc).

Please does anyone have any idea on when I’m supposed to hear back from these schools? I know Admission decisions normally come in from February, but it’s not really easy waiting. I also applied for GA.

Hello, please just give them time. They will respond i due time.

Your GRE score is somehow too low for an engineering course, especially for a PhD engineering course. You can try to apply to some safe schools for Ms. Also, make sure you work on other aspects of your application too to make up for the low GRE
Thanks for your input.. I thought some of these schools were safe enough. The GC at UND evaluated my profile before I applied and advised me to.

I just got my visa approved about 30 minutes ago . Thanks to everyone who took their time to post on this thread , it helped prepare me for the likely questions.
However, I made sure to not read people’s answers because I wanted my own responses to be unique .

Thank you so much once again.
It was my first time
No travel history
No funding
Only applied to one school

Congratulations to you Deegayes

So I just gotta my admission letter and I got partial scholarship of 10k per year. I have a deficit of about 35k for Fall 2020 .

Do I need an SOA for my Visa interview and the school is offering loan options, is that a safe path to thread?

$35k is roughly 13M naira and you are still asking if you need an SOA. Smh

Almost same as mine bro however you’ll still need a SOA to my best of knowledge to show hat at least you’re capable of covering the rest of the fee

Hello house,

I received my SOA from my bank via email pdf and it's not stamped. Can I upload this to complete my school admission process?

Hello all,

To all Texas Tech admitted or current students. Is anyone familiar with the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) interview?

I just got an email from my GC about being scheduled for the interview, I was a little confused as I thought the school recognise Nigeria as an English speaking country.

Does anyone have idea what the interview is about ?

Thank you

That’s a lot of money. Living in Atlanta is expensive, so cost of living will add up.

Surely you have to present a SOA to the school for your I-20, and also at your interview. Just asking, with the partial scholarship how much tuition is left? Do you know from current students if there are oncampus jobs you could use to support your living expenses?

The deficit after the scholarship is about $55k, including living expenses and you only get an on campus job in your second year. The program also offers internships but one has to be enrolled fully first.

They suggested private loan on their website and I'm considering that. I'll like to know if it's a good option to consider

Greetings.
Undergrad CGPA = 3.43 (Wes unofficial)
Undergrad course = petroleum engineering
intending course = petroleum engineering (Ms/PhD)
Gre = 295 ( Q 151 , V 144)
TOEFL= 88
Publications= nil
Below are the schools I applied to.

University of North Dakota : accepted into the PhD program without funding. I went ahead to Send emails to the GC but was promised research assistantship after my first semester based on my performance. I see PhD admit without funding as a subtle rejection.
University of Louisiana, Lafayette : accepted into the Ms program. No info on funding. GC is yet to reply my email.
Missouri university of science and technology: accepted into the Ms non-thesis program without funding.
West Virginia university, Morgantown: awaiting PhD admission decision.
Funding seems elusive. My test scores are frustrating my CGPA. I'm in despair

Your test scores weren't as dope as your GPA, but I hope you get good funding from Lafayette. You'll like it there. Just follow up with the GC, and be patient. I wish you had applied to Louisiana State instead of Missouri S&T. Don't lose hope, just follow up with gentle reminders.

You can only do an internship in the US after your 1st year. Before signing up for the loan, pls have a well thought plan on how you can repay it. If you are hopeful of better offers from other schools, I'd suggest you wait.
