Are the young men in this thread badly raised?

What you're saying was not existing then,

Just this era that parents have changed the world to something else. I can vividly tell you that, it was my teacher that always reminds me I need to cut my hair back then by using Scissors to shave my hair.. And when I get back home, my mum usually used razor blade to give me moon shape grin

Teachers are supposed to be highly respected because they impacted knowledge to us and made us what we are today but we don't respect them

I'll answer you
As a kid going to school, you looking unkempt gives the impression that your parents are dirty and irresponsible.

Also it gives the school and it's management bad image and poor representation.

As an adult your hair style can make you look like a rogue or irresponsible.

Let me ask you a question
Why do you think the court decides to leave the welfare and upbringing of the child in the hands of those considered sound and responsible?

Unless we can see the picture of the boy before this incident we are all speculating about what the school considers to be neat hair.

Still many of the people who are mentioned here https://www.nairaland.com/5746421/5-under-30-youngest-successful

have hair most people on this thread would call objectionable yet it hasn't affected their potential to succeed.

I can bet that most of the people here complaining about the hair are Christians but ignore the fact that Jesus, Samson and many other Biblical characters had long hair.

this is the reason why our children of these days are nothing to write home about
during our time this is a routine stuff and the public bath stuff for the dirty pupils while others watch in amusement.

the shame only will make you remind your parents next time to do the needful.

Honestly things have changed
so a 5 year old can remind his parents when to cut his hair.... during your time, check the demeanour and countenance of the average African child when made to address the public or talk in front of camera : very dull, marked with lack of self-confidence and sharpness. Probably due to all those beatings, humiliation and public shaming.

I bet you'll also approve of a teacher flogging a child for failure of his parents to pay his school fees as was obtained those days too?

Your silliness is wholesome and totally incomprehensible and yet so bold in its foolish projection.

But I pray you never get to be a teacher or even a parent.

Although the teachers would have alerted the parents of the kid, but sincerely speaking most parents are not being responsible these days. I know a school where a parent was having one on one fight with a teacher, cos the teacher flogged her daughter on the buttocks. Teaching profession is being decimated to the floor these days, it's unfortunate.

The school management have failed their teachers.
Since they notified the parents about cutting the bushy hairs of their child and ward, they would have taken up the case to defend the staff.
(this is what I would do if I am the proprietor)

If your child or you can not abide by the school rules no need identifying or enrolling your vhf in the school.

For those of you saying your child this your child that, you will later blame the school for not modelling your so called child.

If it were just "hair", then why lock up the teachers who chose to play the barber??!... You see how this argument can go both ways??!

Because they made a decision to cut the child's hair without the consent of the parents using who knows what tools rather than just send the child home. If the child gets HIV, hepatitis or tetanus from the haircut the school will say that its not their fault.

How would you like it if your boss shaved your eyebrows in your sleep or the police arrested you for not having perfectly gleaming gorimapa?

These kind of parents like trouble, they would have sued the school for fraud, that after paying school fees they chased their wards away.

How can a responsible parent not take care of their child's hair even when told that it will be cut by the school if not taken care of by the parents. My judgement (the parents needs mental evaluation and guidance and counselling on how to be responsible)

Simplyleo:
At 5, the appearance or turn out of a child is entirely the decision and responsibility of the parents. If a teacher or school has issues with the turn out of a 5 year old pupil, the best is to contact the parents and address it accordingly.

You don't just pick up razor blade and start shaving the hair of a 5 year old without the consent or knowledge of her parents.

Any teacher tries that shyt with me must pay for it. undecided
I see sense in this. I agree. At that age, it is the parents prerogative to decide how the child should look. If the school is not ok with it, they should ask the child to withdraw

Everybody is saying what they like about this,
But have you seen the generation that these forced cutting of hair teachers groomed/raised? Don't we have killers and thieves from that generation? Please Nigerians let us try to move forward, cutting of hair has nothing to do with intelligence or good morals, it's a choice, it's the backwardness of most of this so called teachers that's making the country the way it is. Beating/flogging children into becoming what's not for them, the result is the frustrated Nigerian youths you see out there, bullied into living a life they don't even understand.

It's funny dat u actually understand dat things have changed and stil expect d child's parents to overlook something like dis esp in dis era of wickedness in high places whereby people's hairs, nails, bras, panties etc have been reportedly used in diabolical ways against dem. i believe there are better ways to tackle such issues in saner climes. i'm not being diabolic but one just have 2 b careful cos u may not know d exact person u dealing wit especially in a society like ours where people believe d unbelievable.
Truly, things have changed and d good old days when everything looks normal are long gone.

. Very good.
All those who do not respect the dignity of an individual to let their hair grow out needs to be punished

What these fools call bushy hair is just anything above extreme low cut. It does not matter how well you keep your hair.. It's the length that bothers them
Even if the pupil had dreadlocks, you shouldn't feel entitled to someone else's hair

and when we check the hair in question, we will see that the only problem the teachers have is the length.

This whole attitude is a psychological and practical relic of colonisation. Where the white colonial administrators would force African students to cut their "unclean, dirty" African hair
Imagine we being the ones now harrasing and dehumanising ourselves decades after the white oppressor has gone
A law needs to be set in place to protect the natural African hair from prosecution

See ehn... Going back and forth, or bandying words will neither convince either of us... Truth remains: A school is no different from the military (Fact is, the army starts off as a school).

You think school is merely a gathering of kids to read and write??!... Please, wake up!!! It is a bloody institution for building of character and shaping of personalities!!!

The matter under discourse is quite simple: A school has enforceable rules and regulations well spelt out in her prospectus! Inability to abide simply requires withdrawal from the institution, not arresting or assaulting staff members authorized to enforce those rules. That is what civilization is all about... That's what pertains all over the world!... So, I don't get the use of silly condescending remarks like "Nigerians"!!!

Note: I don't support misuse of authority or acting crudely on the part of teachers. If this is the case above, then the tutors went astray. That still doesn't excuse the misuse or oppressive use of the law by the parents, as a simple discussion with written apology would have sufficed!!!

Sir/Ma, my grouse here is the ridiculing of the authority and integrity of the institution of education, which I have been observing with dismay for years now, even in a cultural and respectful nation like Nigeria... The results of such ridicule will tell terribly on us all. Watch the generation of leaders and adults we are raising, and tell yourself some hard truths!!!... Everything is not about political correctness!!!

This is the last I will respond on this matter... To everyone his opinion!!! Thank you.
