It is make-believe and there is a lot of it in politics. I know it hurts seeing a fellow Igbo mock other Igbo's even with strangers but we remain fools if we get carried away by that, cos that is exactly how the system which encourage their attitude want us to respond.

I understand that Igboland is the only ethnic group without internal ethnic separatism prior independence, unlike yoruba where ijebus claims separate and the Yoruba's had to surrender to colonialism and subsequently had to allow awolowo lead the race just to put that in check, unlike urhobo and isoko, Ibibio and efik, Idoma and igede, Ijaw and central delta, and presently ogoni and eleme. Igbo unity and exclusivism was envied by neighbours and Fulani govt alike. Igbo unity meant that the minorities around Igbo's needed the Igbo's more and had no choice than to rally round the igbos and build a prosperous region. it also meant that the minorities had to be integrated into the Igbo values system of hardwork, peace and progressiveness.
The minorities had agitations for state creation in the eastern region but that doesn't automatically translate to a victory if it was put to a referendum like the western region. Even the Fulani govt knew it. Hence breaking the eastern region meant that some Igbo groups had to be partitioned into rivers and cross rivers state without referendum, thwart Igbo unity and its attendant values of hardwork and development. Imagine what rivers would've been without the upland- another useless state like bayelsa.

It is a huge political victory for Igbo's that eastern region was partitioned without referendum. Every ethnic homeland partitioned have the right to sue for reunification just like East and west Germany did, North ireland and Irish free state on the one hand, and North and south Korea are all suing. This is the political angle, while people like pazienza and ChinenyeN are engrossed with emotional side which takes no one anywhere.
