MARRIED AND SLAYING: DIARY OF MRS. NWAKAEGO ETADAFE

Episode 20

Dear Diary,

28th February, 2019.

Praise and I ate our dinner a while ago. We ordered for Pizza with grilled chicken and beef from our favourite joint. I am stuffed, physically drained and I doubt if I will be able to sleep now. Maybe in an hour or less... I hope. Praise is lying on the settee watching CNN. I can see him from where I sat at the dining. I am not sure if he is really watching the news or dozing. I will go and check once I am done writing.

This weekend is a bitter sweet one. My neighbourhood will never be the same again. While I am happy, I am sad at the same time. Nevertheless, I know that everything will work together for our good, we His children, we God's babies.

Oh diary, Saturday went well, but Sunday came with its own bucket of troubles.

Praise and I returned from church this afternoon to meet Adesuwa moving out of her matrimonial home with her kids. I was just speechless when I saw her. What happened now? I didn't even know what to say to her. I just sat there in the car. She waved at me and drove off. I had a thousand questions fist- fighting in my head, but I couldn't voice any of them. I watched her leave and waved back, hoping to call her later and ask 'What the hell was going on?'

Praise asked me to go on in, while he speaks to Osamudiamwen, Adesuwa's husband. I wanted to follow him. I wanted to hear from the horse's mouth. I wanted to ask the silly man why he allowed his wife to leave. I knew that Praise wanted to speak to the man one on one, so I went home and waited.

About two hours later, after anxiety had turned my mind into turmoil, Praise came back and told me that Adesuwa refused to live under the same roof with another woman. She opted to move into one of her husband's houses in Maryland.
Remember diary when I told you that Adesuwa fainted when she found out that her husband got married to another woman.

Ah! Hmmm... If I was in her shoes, I would also refuse to live with another woman. But in my case, the woman would be the one living outside my matrimonial home and not in it. What's with some of these men? Why do they keep bringing these trouble makers home? Can't they get another house for their second wives? Why bring them to the same place your first wife live?

I feel so, so sorry for Adesuwa. She is traditionally married to this man and instead of him to legalize their marriage, he went ahead to marry one of his side chick! A court wedding for that matter! That was like a slap on his first wife's face. Why do some men like to act like wild animals? Why?

I am just too shocked to react. Is it that men can never be satisfied? If you allow them, they will just go ahead and acquire harems filled with women of all colours, shapes and sizes. This is greed at its best.

I need to ask Osamudiamwen one question. Why not legalize your marriage with Adesuwa? Why bring a strange woman into the mix? Okay that's two questions. I have more. This woman has kids for you. Two boys for that matter! What else do you want? Do you want her to slit her chest open, bring out her heart and serve it to you on a silver plate? Ehn?

Me, I don't understand anymore. I just don't. What will make a married man marry his side chick? What does the chick possess that the madam doesn't have? Can't the man repackage his wife if he wants something extra?

I know some women can be something else, but, a woman who loves a man would do anything and everything to make him happy. I would. I love Praise and his happiness is important to me. He doesn't use me to play either.

This school of marriage sef, bi ko, eh don pass be careful.

The sweet part of this weekend was when Iniabasi came visiting, long after we had, had our lunch. She gave Praise and I the invitation to her traditional and court marriage. I was so, so happy for her. Her husband, or rather, her baby daddy, she had two kids for him after their introduction, and procrastination and issues of life didn't allow them to solemnize their union. I am just happy that she learnt a lesson from the bitter experiences of some of the women in our neighbourhood and she was able to get her husband, or rather her baby daddy, to the point where he realized that he needed to do the right thing.

Even if the man had dozens of side chicks everywhere, he still loved Iniabasi enough to want to marry her.

Hmmmm... This is the tales by moonlight or is it sunlight in my vicinity o diary.

Iniabasi is already talking about the aso ebi, her event planner, et cetera, and I am rejoicing. Praise and I will surely grace the occasions. She also wants me to cater solely for the high table guests. Her baby daddy's sister would cater for the remaining guests.

More money for me and I am happy!

Praise is beckoning at me. I think he wants to sleep now.
Got to go now diary.

Talk to you later.

Mwuah!

MARRIED AND SLAYING: DIARY OF MRS. NWAKAEGO ETADAFE

Episode 21

Dear Diary,

10th March, 2019.

I am knocked out... So, so physically drained. I can barely hold my pen as I write. It's Sunday evening and I am dreading Monday morning. I do not want to go anywhere. And I wish I can just stay back home and sleep, eat, watch some movies, browse on my phone and sleep to my heart's content. But I can't. I have got to show up at work tomorrow. I can't leave my staff alone, unattended this week. We have back to back events. Why am I even this tired?

It was one of my favourite clients o. Yesterday, she pressured me until I agreed to come for son's fifth birthday party. I had already sent my staff there. As per food and desserts, everything was on point. But she still made me drive all the way to Lekki to attend the party.

I was surprised when I saw Okiki and her kids at the party. We sat together and she was impressed with the food. She told me that she was going to book my services for all her indoor and outdoor engagements.

I believe you remember Okikiola, my neighbour, the baby mama with three kids from three different men. We got talking and she told me that the monthly allowance she received from her baby daddies was enough to take care of her kids and her humble self for the next decade.

I was awestruck by the info. No wonder some women are going into this baby mama business. She is 39 and she wasn't thinking of settling down, like ever. She said she was fulfilled. She is got three kids already and a booming hair extension business, what else does she need? She wasn't keen on falling in love and with her bi-weekly flings and short term relationships, she needed nothing more.

I stared at her like an Agama lizard, lost for words. I for one knew that money wasn't everything and a wild lifestyle would only end in pain and regret. I told her that I will be praying for her soul, hoping that she would get saved one day soon.

Okiki laughed me to scorn. She said I was going to wait a very long, long time.

When I went to check on my staff, diary, you won't believe who I saw. I saw Kingsley Ike! My ex fiance! He was with Nneoma, his wife. He looked good, still handsome, and he seemed to have added some weight. He was equally astounded when he looked in my direction and saw me.

I told my staff that they were doing well, returned to my table and told Okiki that I was leaving. Once I was done saying my goodbyes to my client, I headed to the car park. I wanted to leave immediately because I didn't want to run into my ex.

I unlocked the door to my car, but before I could get into the vehicle, Kingsley caught up with me. I assumed he must have followed me when he saw me a few minutes ago.

Kingsley complimented my good looks and I tried not to blush. I know I looked fantastic. Praise told me how beautiful I looked before I left the house. But hearing Kingsley say it too made me feel kind of... can I use the word special?

Then he started to say the craziest things ever. He said he wished that he had not listened to his parents. And he wished he had followed his heart, stood his ground and married me. He said he has not been able to get over me, even though Nneoma was a good wife.

*Long Hiss* Is this not medicine after death? I am hissing again. There is no need to cry over spilt milk o. The deed has already been done and the die has been cast.

Me, I told Kingsley to enjoy his marriage because I was seriously enjoying mine. He made a face, hearing that I was also married. Before nko? Then he started acting up when I told him that my former boss was my husband.

Can you believe that this dullard started accusing me of cheating on him while I was working at the bakery? I think he has a rock in his head, instead of a brain.

I told him straight up that my boss wasn't even looking my way while I was dating him. And nothing happened between my boss and I until Kingsley was out of the picture.

*Another Long Hiss* The mumu com dey laugh o.

He started to make jokes, that my boss was definitely eyeing me while we were dating. Me, I was just tired of arguing with him. I am married, you are married, shikena! No long story.

Diary, Kingsley didn't stop there. He said he still loves me and if he could turn back the hands of time, he would love to spend the rest of his life with me.

See wahala in Éclairs sweet wrapper?

I tried to talk him out of all the nonsense he was spitting out, but he refused to listen to me. I told him that it was nice seeing him again, but I loved my husband, and not even a nuclear explosion or a gun to the head will make me leave him.

Kingsley didn't like my response and I didn't care. I said my goodbyes and opened the door to my vehicle. Unexpectedly, he drew me close and hugged me tightly. Like he didn't want to let go, like ever.

Hmmm... I pitied him, because of his confessions and decided to indulge him just for a few seconds, then push him away. I don't know what he was facing in his marriage, but that's his own cup of tea. He choose Nneoma over me because of his parents. He would need to live with that decision for the rest of his life.

Then I noticed that his hands were moving up and down my spine. What rubbish! Give the devil a step and he will take a mile. Na because I allowed him to hug me, now he is pressing himself against me and rubbing my back. Scallywag!

Sharp-sharp, I pushed him off and got into my car. Make him go hug transformer, abeg.
I have deleted every he said from my mind. I don't pity him again.

It's still Sunday and I am still tired and worn out and not ready to leave the house once the sun has risen. Let's see how it all turns out, abi?

When daylight comes, I will decide.

Yawning now.

Night night diary.
