Now I know why people hate maths...in any which way you try to correct them they will wallow in ignorance....OP is very correct.. but if u have the cash pay the man and renew it again in 17th April 2021...I don't panic when landlord barks. I renew my rent when is due.. don't be afraid of the man he can't do anything he is just broke...

My Landlord Is Intimidating Me And Wants To Evict Me Before My Rent Expires

I paid my house rent for one full year on 18/04/2019. My rent is due to expire on 17/04/2020.

But my Landlord is insisting it expired on 17/03/2020. Which is Eleven months. I have tried explaining to him but he wants to lock me out unless I pay immediately.

Please how do I get redress.

Come and hire me, I will beat him up, six months you will not pay ten Kobo

January to December makes a year.

And not January to January!

Is January 30 to December 1 = one year

If you were an employer would you pay for work between Jan 1 and 29 that an individual didn't work with you? Would you pay full December salary for an employee that resigns on the 1st of December?

Let me start with your birthday to explain this. When is your birthday?
You got it right my man. All the contributors saying the rent expired in March probably don't celebrate their yearly birthday on the date/ month of their birth. Shameful.

how long was your nysc
how many months

You are a compound fool and education is wasted on you. His rent expires on 17/4/2020.
Based on your calculation, if Christmas 2019 is on December 25, then Christmas 2020 will be November 25 grin

What makes an anniversary is the eve of the occasion. If you are born on April 2, 2020, and pay rent same day, your rent expires April 1, of subsequent year depending on number of years you paid for e.g April 1 2021 for one year. By April2, 2021, you celebrate the start of another year. You out don't celebrate your birthday on March 2, 2021

Get a good lawyer and she the dumbass. These illiterate landlords get to learn great lessons and some sense from litigations rather than simple argument.

Very wrong. The cycle of 365 days ends precisely on the day before the anniversary of his payment. That is, 17/04/2020.

His rent has expired. The landlord is right.

You need a calculator.

Do you really know maths yourself? Come here and apologize to this man!

Why are you counting months as discrete items when you should be counting months in terms of their constituent parts i.e days?

365 days from 18/4/2019 is 17/4/2020.

Please explain further, how does 17/03/2020 make 12 months?
Count April 2019 to April 2020 with your fingers. Is that not 13 months?
Please pay up. Your rent is actually due.

April to April is only 13 months if you start from April 1st. Madam! If you start from the middle fo April it is no longer a complete month.

But how can someone pay for his house rent and not collect a receipt? Beats me.

Your receipt will always show the period the payment is valid for.

Bone of contention now is 12days @most a month.

The landlord should be more flexible abeg, e nor easy for this country.

That being said, OP pay up or beg for more time.

madam, April 1st to March 31st is 12 months, so is April 18th to April 17th. Please it’s not 13 months so stop the embarrassment. If maths is too complex, apply logic.

Your landlord is correct.
It's 12 months not 13
Count the months from April , May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March.
You we have 12 month.
If you count April again, that'll be 13

If you don't have any intention of leaving the house, pay him ASAP.
BUT if you do, you're entitled to 6 months extension with no payment.

Hmmmm. He is not entitled to it o. Wait until you see the tenancy agreement he signed if in fact he signed any. If the lawyer drafted his tenancy agreement as an agreement for a "fixed term" then that nullifies that 6months extension story. The lawyer after serving you a quit notice can get a 7days order from the court notifying your of his intention to recover the premises, after the expiration of the 7days will lawfully throw the tenant out.
The best thing is for him to seek the advice of a lawyer though.

@OP your landlord is right while you are wrong.

A calendar year is January - December not January - Jamuary

If you paid rent in April 2019, you next rent will be in March 2020.

Birthdays are different for those using beer parlour logic above.

lol. isn't January 1st to December 31st a complete 365 days, or what are you saying actually
