If your April rent expired in March 17/03 and he is insisting you pay, so if you pay 17/03, that means it will expire 16/02/2021,when you pay again, it will expire 15/01/2022, is that how you will keep losing one month? It makes no sense abeg!

I believe your rent is renewable every April.

Is there a Tenancy Agreement?
The law states that yearly tenants MUST BE GIVEN 6 months quit notice. Did you get a quit notice 6 months ago?

Your landlord is hard on cash and wants to intimidate you.

Get a lawyer to write him, and offer to pay part of your next year rent in advance if you have... This will help you retain your apartment. This will get him off your back.
If he rejects the full or part payment, then he should give you a proper quit notice.
You must pay the 6 months rent due for the notice period.

Point of correction, if u paid 1st of April, ur rent expires 31st of March. So if u paid 18th of April then it expires 17th of March the following year. The day u pay a yearly rent, same day or a day earlier u renew it the following year

If we go by your logic, if for example i played my rent on the 30th of April so you are saying my next year rent will be due by 30th of march?

Some rental agreements are based on the start of the month. The OP's agreement might have been backdated to April 1st. That's the only way the landlord is right. However, if the agreement explicitly stated 14 April, then the rent doesn't expire until 13 April and even so, a 6 month's notice has to be given (during which the tenant MUST pay rent) followed by a one week notice, after which forceful eviction is possible

It is never free.

You cannot stay free in any apartment.

Don't try this with knowledgeable property investors.

The notice period is given so the tenant is able to get a new apartment, not for the tenant to enjoy free housing.

It's 6 months for annual tenancy.. 6 months notice of eviction.
I see a lot of peeps here do not know much about tenancy/lease agreements. In such tenancy agreements, a calendar year equates 11months, and not 12months.
