Let’s look at the numbers:

Lagos had her first case a week b4 NYC and her first death a week after NYC. Both have high population density. YET, just yesterday alone 779 people died in NY while the entire Nig has less than 10 deaths total.

If we can figure out WHY, we would have solved the riddle of this virus. SOMETHING saved us. The question is WHAT?

NYC is testing more people.
There are at least 2 different strains of the virus. NYC seems to have the more virulent strain

Xisnin:

Lagos didn't have a first case before NYC.
Lagos tested before NYC.

The virus have been spreading wide in NYC before the government took it seriously.
NYC is a global transport hub, Lagos is not.

You don't know that though, about it been in NYC longer than in Lagos
The first confirmed case in Lagos was on 27th Feb, while for NYC it was 1st of March.
That we do know.
Correct me if the dates are wrong

A lot of Nigerians who previously had plans of traveling home will shout hallelujah on hearing about free flight.

You will be saving them flight tickets thinking you are evacuating them.

Evacuation kee una there. grin grin grin

You are wrong. They are paying for the ticket. Nigeria is a strange country.

Really, something borders me on this covid 19 stuff... The US who is doing more testing and taking precautions seriously with her people are experiencing increased deaths almost everyday and here in Africa and Nigeria in particular, testing is very limited and people are not dieing as expected, logically I have the following feelings :

Our immune system is so strong in Nigeria that the covid19 could not break easily and I attribute this to the fact that we engage malaria drugs every now and then.

The countries doing more testing are experiencing increased cases and deaths, could it be that testing makes it more pronounced?

If the above is not true, Is it that we are lucky in africa and expecially Nigeria?

My feelings that something is not right about this covid-19 pandemic is increasing by the day.

The popular song by the legendary country music singer 'Dolly Parton' comes to mind: "Hello God"

May God have mercy on the world.

Far easier to survive in Nigeria than in the US, if you are undocumented and have no work.

With the current pandemic and various orders to stay at home, undocumented immigrants are finding it hard to cop abroad.

Despite the fact that you are not working, landlord still expect his or her rent at the end of the month and failure to pay means eviction....plus with the Trump presidency, the worst case is to be picked up by ICE and thrown into a jail where the chances of contracting the disease are higher.....so, given those odds, the chance of a free ride back to Nigeria with a few platitudes from the FG on arrival or at the end of the 14 days quarantine sounds very appealing.
Not really, 200 that is too small. Do know how Nigerians in Queens alone. California have put a freeze on evictions, other states will follow. These are Nigeria big boys and children of big men that get stuck in US. Visiting or on study leave. No huzzler will leave US to Nigeria because of Corona virus. Put a small ad on punch today that you are processing US visas and see the thousands of people that will call you

The numbers in Lagos/Nigeria matches other African countries. That to me is a better basis of comparison verses NYC which is in a different continent. Thanks goodness though ....

There is social distancing between those who are able to travel and those who are not. How many Nigerians know someone who regularly travel abroad? Elitist behavior by the haves in Nigeria has so far helped slow the spread. We still don't have victims anong the totally poor
