Securing a pilot job in Nigeria is near impossible and I'm saying this as a commercial licensed pilot in Nigeria without a job even after obtaining my certificate of flight instructing and spending millions of Naira (sponsored) on building flight hours.

It feels like it was not worth pursuing and spending all that money on a dream that will be crushed by this country.

Anyone with a pilot job connections should please link me up. Willing to fly any type of plane (type rating required or not)

Stop complaining and travel out to a modern country. Let’s say Italy or Spain. They are seriously short on Human Resources in every sector right now.

Wrong info. The content of this post is misleading. You copied post from a website without checking if it relates to the Nigerian aviation industry.

Wrong duration of training

Wrong required flying hours

Wrong training amount

I am a pilot myself, and am glad you pointed these errors out.
If one hasn't gone through the process, misleading information ensues.

How long does it take to become a pilot.

It takes a lot of time to turn into a professional pilot. You have to spend several years in school, learn how to fly and earn your flying hours.

A pilot diploma is a good document that can positively influence the aircraft company to hire you.

Besides studying for 4 years, you have to earn from 40 to 4000 hours if you wish to receive a certificate and get a job.

The big companies are ready to hire only pilots with diplomas, certificates and at least 4000 hours of flight.
Before you can become a captain or first officer, you will have to work as co-pilot for several years.

Only experienced pilots can receive a higher job position.

Companies have to be sure that their passengers are in the safe hands of a well-trained captain with many years of professional flights.

You don’t spend 4 years in flight school, your performance will determine how long you stay there, you should be done in 1yr 6 months or less.

Big companies will employ you with 300hrs or less, you will be doing what is called line training then move to the right seat (co pilot)

You don’t study physics, mathematics and geography. That’s what your secondary school education is for.

Subjects include:
1. Principles of flight
2. Flight planning
3. Weight and Balance
4. Meteorology
5. Human performance
6. Air law
7. Navigation

Etc

Will try and post the website where i got that. Learnt the major courses are science(Physics, mathematics) related.

Most pilots have gone through this, sometimes you have to spend more money to be able to break the chain, would you be open to an instructors rating?Do you have a type rating?

It's easier said than done.

To be a pilot in other countries, you'll need to have work permit / permanent residency or be a citizen of that country to be able to work and secondly, you will have to convert your pilot license to that of that country which also costs a lot of money that I currently don't have...

I already have my instructors rating and have over 500 flight hours

I know spending more money can help to possibly secure a job but some of the ways I know will cost above $20,000 (₦7.2 mil) which I simply don't have

That bros go don spend MONEY... Florida for that matter.
From my extensive research Florida is one of the best places to attend a flight school buh its cost of living, accomodation and is expensive..
And for the flight hours, I think you need 1500 flight hours to make it to the cockpit of the average airlines as co-pilot.
Its standard FAA requirement, i think it was formally 1000hours.

Another thing i got from my personal research a while ago was that not all student pilots make it to the cockpit...its expensive being a pilot and airlines are not willing to pay for training as much and only a few very expensive schools will give you 1500 flight hours and i didnt even find one of such schools in the US...you have to hustle for it and from private plane or light craft charters and per hours charters may range from about $300 to $700 or even more(cant remember vividly, been a while) that leaves a student to hustle really hard enough to fend for himself and also to afford to accumulate flight hours enough to even be considered by any cheap airline. It hard out there unless you have rich parents or sponsors or a good scholarship.

My 2 cents

There are several main stages of becoming a pilot.

Aviation schools in Nigeria: Stage 1

Before you choose your aviation school, you have to learn the following important things about your future profession:

1. You will study a lot to become a pilot.
2. You will have to pay a lot for your education.

How much does it cost to study for a pilot?

The special aviation schools in Nigeria can cost ‎₦7,000,000 - ‎₦9,000,000. This is very expensive, but if you choose to go abroad (United States or South Africa) and study, then you will have to pay way more.

Nigeria Civil Aviation Training Centre (NCAT), Zaria is one and cost ‎₦8,000,000 - ₦9,000,000.

You can get state or political sponsorship or find an airline company that can pay for your studies, offer you a scholarship or financial support (in return, you will have to work for it after graduation) and minimize your expenses.

Another option is going through the Nigeria Defense Academy, then join Nigerian Air force training.

There are more than 35 aviation schools in Nigeria. When the time comes to choose, make sure it is officially approved by the Federal Aviation Association shortly known as FAA. Every school has its own set of rule.

At your school, you will be studying theory, mathematics, physics, Geography and have regular classes (While instruments will do the vast majority of the things you will learn in school, but you still will need to know what to do in case they fail or malfunction. You will need to know how to do things like plot a course from A to B, calculate safe flight weights, and calculate altitude density).

You will also have to practise.

For about a year or two years, you should get real flight lessons to learn how to fly and fly some hours.

The money is too small, type rating alone in a good school like CAE will take up to N10m. To become ideally employable or increase your chances of employment you need at least N20m. Else you will be roaming the street with a CPL

Nothing is more beautiful than mounting the Cockpit of a Boeing 737-400 or even beta still the queen of the skies boeing 747(she’s a beauty), perhaps you may fancy the Airbus 350-900 but I prefer the 747 with the CFM engines installed, your can hear the engines roar, as the Capt. and his co-pilot go over the checking list and paperwork, just before being released by d ground team with the air traffic controller directing them on which runway to use and the chattering going on in the ops room.
Oboy, trust me if you have been there you will love the aviation industry.
Without any bias, as an easterner, I truly have to give much accolades to the giant strides the northerners and westerners made in insuring their kids had the best training when it comes to the aviation industry, and if you check very well most pilots we have are either northerners, westerners or expatriates and a few southerners and this is where I must commend Goodluck Jonathan, he sponsored a handful of his people to become certified pilots mostly rotary wings.
Regarding their salaries, using statistics from U.S Dept of Transport an avg. Pilot earn avg. $84k Annually which translates to 2.8mill(@410 Naira per USD), back here in Naija I know a certain commercial airline whose 1st and 2nd officers receive 500k - 1mill per month then and an experienced Pilot amongst them received 3M per month.
My brothers and sisters even if you don’t have money to study piloting, try; avionics, cabin crew, Airframe engineering, Aviation Security, Flight operations or radio room operations ,etc.
I encourage anyone who whats to become a pilot one day should start from somewhere within the industry and overtime You can save up to become that pilot you dreamed of. I know line engineers who became pilots, I even personally know a guy who worked with one of the major airline as an I.T support staff, after years he became an Engineer.
PS: Schools in Eastern Europe tend to be more affordable compared to aviation schools in Western Europe but don’t forget if you want to work in Naija you will still need to take conversion courses.
Goodluck.

Not different from what sailors earn and the courses are a bit cheaper than pilots.
I am a second officer and depending on company, certificate and experience you will get between 250k to 2.2m at my level sailing offshore or holding a north to south africa sailing ticket/license
That's a nice one. Is there anyway you can be of assistance to a fresh engineering graduate in getting a job at your work place?

Write to your senator or governor. My cousin was lucky under GEJ era to benefit from such benevolence. I know it is frustrating but keep pushing. You can create a YouTube channel, discuss about aviation. Many Nigerian youth both old and young wish to be in your position. While you wait for a job, you can start a vlog from your home. Stay strong and keep pushing
