It has always been said that Transsion produces cheap phones. Cheaper than everyone else, in fact without Transsion, a lot of Nigerians won't even be using smartphones. As at the early 2010's when they were few smartphone brands in Nigeria and Blackberry dominated the market at expensive prices. One could say this was true. Fast forward to another decade, and this saying is still being touted about. Let's see if this holds true.
We're going to take a look at some Transsion phones and compare them with other brands like Samsung, Nokia, Xiaomi and Umidigi.

Criteria:
* All phones are the recently released variants
* All phones must be in the market
* Recently announced but unreleased phones do not make the list.

Most smartphone geeks agree that smartphones are classified into majorly 4 tiers (entry, budget, midrange and flagship). For this study, I'm eliminating flagship killer tier as it's a bit redundant here.

Without further ado, let's kick off.

Entry level:
Entry level phones are those phones which are designed to give you the android experience on the cheap. They can only carry out basic android functions (calls, SMS, FB lite, WhatsApp go etc.). These phones usually run on Android go software as their SoCs can only carry minimal loads. Any attempt to overload them leads to lagging, freezing, constant reboots (bootloops), softbricks or a complete shutdown.

Tecno: Pop 3 plus. It's an entry phone with Helio A22, 1/16GB RAM/ROM, 8/8mp front and back cameras and 4000mAh battery. Sells for around 32k (naijatechguide)

Infinix: Smart 4C. It comes with Helio A22 as well, 2/32GB RAM/ROM, 5/8mp cameras and 4000mAh battery. Sells for around 34k (naijatechguide)

Xiaomi: Redmi Go. It ships with Snapdragon 425, 1/16GB RAM/ROM, 5/8mp cameras and a 3000mAH battery. Sells for exactly 25,250 naira (slotNG)

Nokia: Nokia 2.3. It has got a Helio A22 as well, 2/32GB RAM/ROM, 5mp selfie and 13+2 dual back cameras and a 4000mAh battery. It sells for around 37k (Naijatechguide)

Samsung: Galaxy A10 comes with the Exynos 7884, 2/32GB RAM/ROM, 5/13mp cameras and a 3,400mAh battery. It retails for 39,500 naira (Naijatechguide)

Umidigi: Umidigi A3S ships with the Mediatek Helio A22, 2/16GB RAM/ROM, 13mp selfie, 16+5mp dual back cameras and a 3,950mAh battery. The price is 23k (Naijatechguide)

Quite clearly the winner here is the Umidigi A3S, clearly by the price alone. The runner up is the Redmi Go.

This proves that at entry level, there are better options to Transsion and cheaper too as almost all the phones in this category (except Redmi and the A10) use the Helio A22.

I'll be back shortly with the budget tier category phones, do stay tuned

How can transsion holding sells Tecno camon 15 95k with those outdated specification in 2020 and call it affordable, where as there are phones of 2017 with better specification that don't cost up to that..

Budget level
Budget phones are good enough to handle all apps and software. They'll give you average performance but don't expect much. Games should be played on low settings to avoid lag and freezing.

Tecno: Spark 3 Pro. This comes with the basic Helio A22 that are used on entry level phones. Why Spark 3 pro is classified as a budget phone is surprisingly funny. It has 2/32GB, 8mp selfie and 13+2mp dual back cameras. The battery is 3,500mAh. The phone sells for between 39 to 42k.

Infinix: Hot 8. This comes in two models. The cheaper one uses the Helio A22 entry level processor, has 2/32GB or 3/32GB of RAM/ROM. The more costly variant used a proper budget Helio P22 processor and comes with 4/64GB of RAM/ROM. All other specs are identical e.g. 8mp selfie and 13+2mp+QVGA triple camera set-up, the battery is 5,000mAh. The prices range from 42k for the cheaper variants to 50k for the costlier P22 4GB RAM variant.

Xiaomi: Redmi 8. The Redmi 8 comes with a new Snapdragon 439 processor (which is said to be equal to a Snapdragon 625 in CPU performance), 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of ROM, it has a 8mp selfie and 12+2mp dual cameras, the battery is 5,000mAh. The 3GB variant is 44k while the 4GB variant is 47k.

Nokia: Nokia X5 (5.1 plus). Chosen because of its popularity. The Nokia X5 doesn't really belong in the budget category but the manufacturers advertised it as a budget phone. It has a powerful Helio P60 which in truth is a midranger. 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB storage. It has an 8mp selfie and a 13+5mp dual camera set-up. The battery is where it falls short at 3,060mAh but Nokia claims to have optimized it for good screen on times. The 3/32GB costs around 45k while the 4/64GB costs 50k.

Samsung: Galaxy A20. The A20 uses exactly the same Exynos 7884 seen in the entry level A10. On the other hand, it comes also with a super Amoled display. It has 3/32GB of storage, 5mp selfie, 13+5mp dual real set-up and 4000mAh battery. The phone sells for around 52k.

Umidigi: Umidigi Power. This comes with a Helio P35 bearing 4/64GB of storage, 16mp selfie and 16+5mp dual cameras, battery is 5150mAh and guess the price, it starts from 43,500 naira.

Quite clearly, Tecno doesn't have a budget phone. The Spark 3 pro is just the same as the Pop 3 plus with more storage space. The Samsung A20 is the same as the entry level A10 with an Amoled screen All the others have good offerings but for the price, if you can overlook the battery, Nokia X5 is the clear victor. The runner up is the Umidigi Power.

Are Transsion phones still the cheapest phones around? The answer is no.

You're clearly missing the point. He's not trying to glorify Tecno and the likes but trying to disillusion those that believe Tecno and Infinix make cheap and affordable phones and he's so doing that by comparing phones within the same "mobile cadre" with their prices hence, specifications-for-cost comparison.

Midrange phone.

These are the phones that gives you the full smartphone experience with minimum lag and fuss. Games can be played on medium or even high settings sometimes. User experience is smooth and fluid.

Tecno: Pouvoir 3 plus. This powerhouse selling point is it's 6,000mAh battery. It comes with a budget Helio P22, 4/64GB of storage, 13mp selfie and a 13+8+2 triple rear camera set-up. It sells for 52k.

Infinix: S5 lite. The S5 lite like the base S5 and S4 comes with a Helio P22, a budget chipset. In essence they're all the same phone with different names. It also comes with 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB ROM. It has a 32mp selfie and a 16+5+2+2mp Quad camera set up at the back. The battery capacity is 4000mAh. The price goes for 43k for the 3GB RAM model and 47k for the 4GB RAM model.

Xiaomi: Redmi Note 8. The RN8 is the first proper midranger on this list and it houses a Snapdragon 665 processor, 3/4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of ROM, a 13mp selfie and quad 48+8+2+2mp camera set up. The battery is 4000mAh. The price is around 64k

Nokia: Nokia 6.2. This is proper budget device running on Snapdragon 636, it has 3/4GB RAM and 32/64/128GB ROM. It has a triple camera set up of 16+8+5mp and a 8mp selfie. The battery is rated at 3,500 and the price is around 75k

Samsung: Galaxy A50. The best phone on this list. It ships with an Exynos 9610, 4/6GB RAM, 64/128GB ROM, 25mp selfie and a triple 25+8+5 rear set-up. The battery is called at 4,000 mAh and the price is 90k.

Umidigi: Umidigi power 3. This is also another battery power house at 6150mAh, it houses a Helio P60 chip, 4/64GB of storage, 16mp selfie and a Quad rear set-up (48+13+5+5mp). It sells for around 80k on Jumia.

Verdict. Tecno and Infinix do not have proper midrange phones. Their midrange offerings are actually budget phones and that they're overpriced for a budget phone but most people will think they're midrange phones and consider them cheap which is not the case. On the other hand the Umidigi, Nokia and Samsung are overpriced. This sets out the Redmi Note 8 as the clear victor with the Nokia 6.2 as the runner up.

Finally the Flagships

Flagship tier phones are the best that a company has to offer. These phones are the best that money can buy. They're supposed to be the best experience a Smartphone can give you. The very best.

Tecno: Camon 15 Premier. This is Tecno's current flagship offering. It has a Helio P35 (budget chipset), 6/128GB storage, a motorized pop-up selfie, a 64+5+2+QVGA quad cam set-up. The battery is 4,000mAh and it sells for 95k.

Infinix: Zero 6. This is Infinix premier best. It ships with Snapdragon 636 (midrange), 6/128GB, 20mp selfie and a 24+12mp dual rear set-up.The battery is 3,650mAh. It sells for 120k.

Xiaomi: The Mi 10. This is currently amongst the top 10 smartphones in the world. It uses the best Android SoC available, the SD865. It has a 8/128GB or 12/256GB storage. It has a 20mp selfie and a 108+13+2+2mp Quad rear set up. The battery is rated at 4,780mAh. The price is 207k.

Nokia. Nokia Pureview. It uses an SD845 chipset, 6/128GB storage, 20mp selfie and a penta (5) 12mp rear set up. The battery is 3,230mAh. The phone is priced at 250k

Samsung: S20 ultra. It uses the top of the line SD865 or an Exynos 990. 12/16GB RAM, 128/256/512GB storage, 40mp selfie, 108+48+12+0.3mp quad cameras and a huge 5000mAh battery. Price 500k.

Verdict: Tecno and Infinix do no have flagship phones. All they have are highly overpriced budget and midrange phones that should be sold at below the 60k mark if I'm being generous.

Mi 10 for the price to specs ratio is the clear winner here.
