OgboAto:

No one, I mean no one is interested in your $2K. Spend it on getting a better education.
And the book I extracted it from was written in 1897.

So you now speak for everyone , you happen to also know the thoughts and minds of everyone, clap for yourself, telepathic mind reader.

How do you know there weren't others that were interested in the $2k?

You can only speak for yourself, what a delusional pretentious hubris.

What makes someone intelligent and smart is your sound logical reasoning and cognitive ability, not the ability to copy and paste from the internet.

You were not interested in the $2k challenge but sounded so pained that it's now off the table.

No one is disputing the fact that the oba of benin didnt write about the benin-ife connection the stand the oba is taking is that ekaladeran went to established ife
No one is also is arguing egharevba didnt source his history from the palace but does that remove the fact he couldn't choose to alter it if he wanted
Come on is not like the oba wrote it himself.....

If we are to take this writting serious without revaluating it we will be faced with an endless argument........

So all argument articles should be prior to 1914 publication

I thought the Yoruba language is the adopted Oyo dialect that was standardised in the 20th century for all tribes within the Western region.

The dialect of Ekiti and other Yoruba tribes are not exactly the same as Oyo dialect that is now the standard Yoruba language.

If Yoruba is a modern day creation, a creation of the 20th century, how was it possible for Benin to be speaking a language that was only standardised in the 20th century in the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

Which of the various versions of the Yoruba dialect was Benin speaking during these early periods.

When these people speculate that Benin spoke Yoruba at some point in time, is Yoruba supposed to be an umbrella language that cover all dialects from Lagos to Anambra and Ikwerre in Rivers state?

Why didn't the Yoruba language or a dialect of it that you claimed Benin spoke reflects in the names of the various Oba, if these obas spoke Yoruba dialect as official language, why stop by just speaking the language without also bearing Yoruba names. Which of the Benin Obas that spoke Yoruba dialect has Yoruba name.
the Yoruba spoken in the Benin empire was the dialect in owo today. I know ewuare is Yoruba for danger will pass over and eweka is owomika meaning I can't handle it. A former oba was also named ogun. Many of the names have meanings in Yoruba.

Being a Yoruba is a blood thing. So, no matter how many Edo tribes from the suburb troop into the capital, the royal dynasty still retains its Ife patrilineal blood.
if they want to build Igodomigodo from the ground up using the oba, we should let them be but Benin empire was Yoruba thorough and thorough.

Ewuare may have a meaning in Yoruba but that doesn't mean it means the same thing in Benin. Ogun is a name of god shared by both Benin and Yoruba.

Could you elaborate on the circumstances that resulted in Benin adopting the Owo dialect? Are Owo people the same as Benin people?

This is the story you are using to comfort yourself.. yoruba the official language of Benin lol.. nothing we have not heard from you guys.
Anyways historical accounts of Benin/Yoruba relationship will always be contested and argued.. The only part of history that cannot be contested is that, Benin Kingdom conquered and ruled vast parts of Yorubalands and people..

the benin kingdom was tributary at various times to the itsekiri, akure and Ibadan.

After telling us that everyone from Edo, Delta, Anambra to Rivers state once spoke the Yoruba language, you are now claiming this?

It's obvious you have read your history books upside down, I haven't see the worst of Yoruba revisionists we have been dealing with so far make these claims, you are operating on a different level.

When some of you display your bigoted ignorance here and claim Benin is suffering from inferiority complex, it begs the question if that word means something else to the Yorubas?

How can the Benin people feel inferior to the Yoruba people when both history of Benin and Yoruba history agree that.

1. The Benin colonised Eastern Yoruba, decapitating any rebellious rulers for centuries.

2. By 1603, Benin have already annexed Lagos, and had a strong military garrison there.

3. There was a specific Yoruba tribe, the Ijebus that the Benin Oba used as human sacrifices to the Benin gods.

4. Benin was a major gun supplier to the Yoruba tribes, which they used to kill themselves during their internecine wars, so much so, the most famous of all Yoruba tribal internecine war got it name Kiriji from the frightening sounds of the Benin guns.

5. Benin written history is more than four hundred years older than Ife written history that began in 1920. Please don't come here and claim the 13th century Yufi in Zimbabwe, south Africa as Ife.

6. Benin 15th century Ogane kingdom and south Africa 13th century Yufi were not Ife.

7. Not even your lord and masters, the Fulani that is ruling you in Ilorin will even have it in their thoughts that Benin is inferior to anyone.

8. Benin didn't even see themselves as inferior to the British, otherwise the 1897 British expedition would have been avoided. Show me any of the Yoruba tribes that showed such bravery and lack of inferiority complex to the white man.

If anyone disputes any of my claims above and want prove, don't hesitate to make the request. These are not claims that are not backed up by historical accounts.

We may have left the scene for over a century, doesn't mean those who more than half of their Obas and traditional rulers are forced convert to foreign Islamic God to be running their mouths.

Who is inferior between the Oba of Benin that doesn't have to wait for signal from any superior leader before commencing the annual Benin festivals, to those Yoruba obas that have to wait for the Sultan of Sokoto to sight the moon and give the go ahead for their festivals and spiritual rituals to begin.

The Yoruba people will forever remain under the supremacy of the foreign Fulani Sultan of Sokoto.

The Fulani came to complete the subjugation Benin started centuries ago, I am waiting for them to come and say this is not the truth.

Are the Yoruba Obas supposed to be looking towards Sokoto and Sultan of Sokoto or the Ooni of Ife and Ife for spiritual guidance.

For centuries, Yoruba worshiped Benin gods and religion that they are now claiming as theirs.

As soon as Islam came on board, they started claiming that Oduduwa was from Mecca, tomorrow when the Igbos rise up to lead Nigeria, the Yoruba will claim Oduduwa was originally an Nri or Arochukwu man.

The present Ooni is already preparing the grounds for such claim by claiming that the Igbos were the original owners of Ife.

You're just been inscure, stop you rant modern works are full of revised myth which began after 1914 we are here to establish the authencity of benin ife relationship we are not here to debate on recyled myth......

You shouldn't cry samuel johnson wrote the yoruba history before 1897 the Portuguese wrote the benin history since 15c they were little info but this info were very authentic,
To aid the written document i also requested for archaeological evidence with no date attached....
The orun oba ado is an archaeological site that can be refrenced and reviewed here

If we are to to argue on benin-owo relationships would you crying tears of pity, oyo benin relationship was recorded by the Portuguese since 16c and archaeological evidence are abundant to draw from even till date..... This is to show there was really a connection and i bet you wouldn't be ranting if i asked for this, if there was really a connection between ife and benin it wouldn't be hard to identify with this dating just like the benin-owo connection

Oga the first person who called for benin-ife connection was oba of benin not even the yoruba people yes we know why he called for it..... And the reasons the yorubas are masturbating on

You shouldn't be afriad our oba started this benin - ife relationship for political gains......

centuries ago, an ife man was made king by the oracle in Benin, the story is in the ifa corpus under odi meji, if you know any babalawo you may ask them, the story is there. That man brought thousands of Yoruba with him and made Yoruba the lingual franca of the new empire he built, he called his capital Ife Ibinu which was later corrupted to Benin. Yoruba was the lingual franca of the empire. The oba was only addressed in the Yoruba language. The people of ugbodu delta migrated from Benin and they still speak a Yoruba dialect like that of owo.

After many years He arrived in Ife, a small and thinly populated village. His charisma and good manners made him popular among the natives and gained him many followers. His name was Ekhaladeran also known as Izoduwa corrupted to Oduduwa by the Ife people.

Errrrrm ... Except that historians regard this particular story of Ekaladerhan/Izoduwa has an apocryphal, pseudohistorical, deliberately unauthentic, over-ambitious joke. grin

This therefore leaves Binis with the earlier ancient classical Bini account whereby Benin Kingdom's present dynasty was founded by Ife-Yoruba.

This earlier Bini account (before the modern debunked one) agrees generally with the Yoruba account as submitted by lawani.

We benins cant be fooled by myth anymore...
If you seek truth definitely you will see truth....
The yorubas know thier true history and they know well were the oba myth came from
but they are using the oba of benin mistake in the late century to catch cruise while ooni and alafin are fighting the real battle of supremacy codedly not to obstruct the benin-ife myth

Two questions

With evidence shown through history benin cut off relationships with ife since the 10c after oromiyan left benin but magically after 900yra the benins could identify that the oba came from ife but they couldn't identify who was ogene till date or is it the oracles in modern times that did the identification for the benins if so let use that same oracle to identify the location of ogene too

2) according to the myth benins kept relationship with ife till 1897 but no history was recorded of keeping contacts with his younger brother oyo were is direct father migrated to.........

3) samuel Johnson 1897, samuel Crowther 1840 wrote on the history of Oyo and they gave similar account that Oronmiyan was a warrior who had contact with nupe and, at nupe while fighting he heard Oduduwa had been dethroned and he quickly rushed back to ife no record of oromiyan visit to benin was noted by this earlier writters

The yorubas know the average benin man wont pick a Yoruba history to read so they had the upper hand to fool us, because our history are all littered in the internet for people to read and they are interesting when reading unlike the yorubas history they knew this and used it for thier advantage they forget not everyone is an average benin, not me....

From hence forth i will dine with the yoruba history and get acquainted with them to seek the truth......... We have longed been too fooled

You're welcome!

One of the sweetest things that twist the head of those lying illiterates is as follows:

The fact that Yoruba language was the lingua franca of Benin Kingdom and its palace was not originally recorded by you or by me.

Rather, it was originally recorded as an eyewitness account in the 1600s by a French church father who visited Benin Kingdom.

Moreover, the Benin-father-of-Nairaland-lies tried to twist the narrative by claiming that Yoruba was not standardized until the 19th century.

Trying to give his usual autistic suggestion that Yoruba people didn't open their mouth to talk to each other until the 19th century. grin

We know as usual that such suggestion could only have come from someone suffering from severe autism.

This is because the actual standardization spoken about in the 19th century was about writing Yoruba language using Roman scripts.

Well .... except that historians world-wide insist that such account of a certain fictitious Izoduwa is an apocryphal, pseudohistorical, and deliberately unauthentic nonsense borne out of inferiority complex by some Binis in the 1970s.

So, if I am to accept any Benin account, I am left with no other choice than the ancient classical Benin account which insists that the present ruling dynasty of Benin Kingdom was founded by an Ife-Yoruba prince.

There is no reason why I will accept the modern-1970s revision which have been debunked and trashed by historians.
