The Yoruba can believe whatever they want to believe but they should try as much as to limit their beliefs to themselves.

There is absolutely no basis for comparing Benin iron cast history that was bath and watered with thousands of blood of both fallen heroes, heroines and victims for centuries.

The written history of Benin up till 1897 can't be changed by mere wishful thinking of detractors, the best they can do is to conjure and misrepresent what was written, it's left for the Benin that come across such fabrications to always point out the there was nothing written about Benin/Ife relationship in the first four hundred years of Benin history.

It has been proven here that Benin written history made no mention of Oduduwa, Ife and Oranmiyan for the first four hundred years.

Oduduwa, Ife and Oranmiyan came into Benin after the fall of Benin in 1897. All recycled myths and inconsistencies in the accounts of the origin of Oduduwa have carried on since.

In the past 100 years Oduduwa has assumed various forms and personalities, from being a mythical figure from the sky, Mecca indigine, Benin prince and most recently Ife indigine.

Those that want to continue debating myths as history are free to do so.

There will always been indisputable facts until proven otherwise.

1. Benin had nothing to do with Ife for the first four hundred years of Benin written history.

2. Benin kingdom influence was felt in what is today, Western, South Eastern, South Southern and Middle Belt Nigeria.

3. After the British put an end to Benin empire in 1897, the Oba of Benin continue to remain the custodian of the Benin culture and the spiritual head and guardian.

4. Some of those the British freed from the clutches of the Benin empire have found new religious, political and spiritual leadership in the Sultan of Sokoto. Nothing to be jealous about because Benin, a southern minority had their turn for 500 years. The Northern minority Fulani caliphate is less than 250 years into their political, religious and spiritual subjugation and are yet to influence majority of the south south and south eastern people.

5. Whenever Nigeria is restructured, Benin will continue to maintain it's independence religious and spiritual identity and those that want to steal Benin history will continue to look up north for religious and spiritual guidance.

There are absolutely no basis to compare Benin empire history with Yoruba history and Oba of Benin with any Yoruba Oba because most Yoruba people and Obas are under the Sultan of Sokoto religiously and spiritually.

To some, anyone that doesn't agree with their recycled 20th and 21th centuries myths and fabrications are ignorant and illiterate.

The Yoruba had the opportunity in 1897 to chat an independent course after the fall of Benin but they refused, they should stop dragging Benin history into the mould with their inferiority complex and religious and spiritual slave mentality.

They come here to parrot Ife and Ooni as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation but look to the caliphate for spiritual guidance.

Myths hardly stand the test of time, the reason the myth of Ife and Oduduwa being the religious, spiritual and cultural homeland of the Yoruba have crumbled is less that a century.

Benin real history is growing strongly in spite of all that have been thrown at it.

Yes the Benin people are stubborn in protecting their history and heritage.

The Benin illiterates may lie so much especially in an attempt to give all the can to distort Yoruba history in their own little minds. grin

What I am, however, commending them for is that they dare not deny the fact that Ekaladerhan is a mythical figure. grin cheesy

At coronation in 2016 Oba Ewuare II said some of the above in a diplomatic way, being an ex-diplomat.

That others can write their own history as they like, Benin is not to dictate to them but Benin has its own unshakable history. And only Benin has authority over that history.

Do you see them dragging the history of other tribes? No. Because the history of other tribes doesn't have the impact Benin history has internationally. Oba doesn't travel abroad to sell Benin history to be relevant.

Our history has sold itself effortlessly since 5 centuries. Diaspora kids in the West do Benin history before the age of 8 at school.

Salt, sugar and honey need no TV advert.

Draggers want to bask in the glory of our history. And claiming that Benin is part of them is the easiest way to achieve that.

If not I see no reason why they have dedicated so much time to Benin matter. When people resort to insults and agbero tactics it's typically due to envy. Frustration and not having their way realising that their hubris over education and monopoly over knowledge was fuelled by empty pride, tribal zealotry and ego. grin

You all can't even agree on which conspiracy theory to shoot for on Nairaland.

First, you all came up with the narrative that it was your own kings who fabricated connection with Ife and licked Oonis boots just to have some say in the Western Region.

Now barely a few weeks after that initial face-saving narrative, the new narrative has become that no it is the Yorubas who are claiming us to be part of them.

For the last time you all should make up your mind and decide on which of these two contradictory jokes to shoot for. grin

But in the meantime, you all should be constantly reminded of how Ekaladerhan is nothing but a mythical personage.

Without the fabrications of Benin history, Ife myths cannot stand the test of time, it's already badly shaken.

After all the braggadocio of being sophisticated and the most educated, they and most of their Obas have to look up to the North that they disparage as cattle rearing illiterates for spiritual and religious leadership.

What happened to the almighty Ife, cradle of their civilisation and Ooni, who is supposed to be the spiritual leader.

Benin history is the oxygen still keeping what is left of Ife myth going.

The benin history has been completely rubbished by myth the time scholars will be using to analyze other aspects of benin history they will be using it to prove the existence of benin-ife relationships

Oba eweka was led by minority complex and quickly hide under the umbrellas of yorubas for political gain. the rest obas of benins who followed tried to correct the mistake but instead they kept on recycling the myth instead of denouncing it completely now they are barking like dogs when yorubas revisionist tries to eat thier history

We better start writing and denouncing this myth for the sake of the entire Edo people if the oba who were meant to protect our history are the ones who corrupted them, then am sorry if the truth is leaked it will be a sorry case for the palace
it is not like the oba was solely the one who made this our beautiful history alone but we the help of all our ancestors so them alone can't corrupt it for we all

I have been reading yorubas early history for some few days now.....
am ashamed for we benins just under fews years we got colonized we let in minority complex sink into us and our obas began rewriting our history out of fear of been a minority.....

Oduduwa in yoruba mythology was referred as god and not a himan and it was only worship by the ife untill after febernus excavation on ife he found various artwork that ife began having historical prestige amongst the yorubas
For thier various political gains they hide on the umbrella of Oduduwa from ife
Just like the igbos are trying to do with nri but it is not working

When Johnson wrote on Oyo history he first believed the oyo people migrated from nupe, and the first king was sango, thier history is so messed up with myth my dear

They claimed that all their foremost Yoruba historians from Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Samuel Johnson to R. C. C. Law wrote nonsense, the only stories that makes sense to their tribal egos are the latterday revisionist stories that centered around stealing Benin history to fortify Ife myths.

I won’t blame Oba Eweka for agreeing to the Benin-Ife story.. he must have known that the Yorubas (Ooni and Alafin) are servants and puppets of the British. So claiming to be brothers with the puppets will probably put him in good standing with the British and secure his throne.
It’s the Obas after Oba Eweka that should have denounced outright such relationship.

You're right......

Our ancestors made this history not just the oba only them cannot just rewrite the whole history on our behalf

Very true bro.
It would have been laughable to say Edo people descended from Yorubas.
Yorubas should go research their little known history and leave Edos to celebrate their own rich history.

If Benin empire reawakens today, I will advise u to run for ur life because you will once again be conquered.
The Benin empire was a Yoruba state. That is what I want you to grasp.

Very true bro.
It would have been laughable to say Edo people descended from Yorubas.
Yorubas should go research their little known history and leave Edos to celebrate their own rich history.

I created a thread of fellow yoruba people denouncing ever coming under the oyo empire
So far no one has replied.....

If not for oba ekwwka we should have been celebrating our history with no cause of alarm

We are still celebrating our history with no cause for alarm. It’s just these inferior people desperately trying to use Benin to boost their ego.

The earlier they stop the better for them

I will be forced everytime on nairaland to expose all thier false history from now on no breathing space, untill they learn to respect our boundaries

Before the creation of nigeria oyo used to be the centre for all yorubas untill after 1914, they began tracing thier geneology to ife directly as the sons and daughter if a non existing Oduduwa who was said to have existed as an idol and not humam as the myth made us believe
this was done by the yoruba to avoid the issue of oyo political hierarchy instead tracing it directly to oduduwa will aviod any form of hierarchy form that will be given by oyo by so doing the various king will not be subjected to an elder

The beef between ooni and alafin started and they began writing myth upon myth to denounced who was junior or senior amongst themselves
the British once also favored alafin because he was loyal to the British and elevated him as the chairman of the chief of council after the British left ooni was elevated to that stool by awolowo because the ooni supported awolowo party against the British

Maybe in the past, during the time of oduduwa when they made their bronzes and when segi beads were popular. Ife is a spiritual capital where human civilization started according to Yoruba thought. Ife is also an independent state now while Ijesa is also an independent state neighbour to ife. According to Ijesa accounts, the first ooni was birthed by a bond woman property of oduduwa but impregnated by owa ajibogun the first owa of ijesaland and son of oduduwa. There was a civil war in Ife and ajibogun said the child in the bondwomans womb should be made king. That was the first ooni. Ijesa people believe owa ajibogun impregnated his father's bond woman who gave birth to the first ooni.

You are not qualified for the errand you are sending yourself if you don't even know the immediate neighbor of your Benin empire.
