Hello everyone... please I need candid advise here.

I studied Engineering, but graduated with a third class. I want to switch career and get masters in a course related to Business/Finance/project management/etc. Please which universities in the UK would accept me with third class? My budget for school fees is not more than 10,000 pounds. I've searched everywhere, but I keep seeing 2:2 base requirement.

Something to note, for the past 3 years, I have been a volunteer for a major international organization in project management capacity. I am aware that requirements are not set in stone and can be adjusted on individual basis, but I'd love to get suggestions on the schools that are more flexible and more likely to accept my grade. Please help me.

Apply to Birmingham City University. Emphasize on your work experience in project management in your Personal statement that you are very much capable to study project management. Include your project management experience in your the work experience section. Your workplace should also write a strong reccomendation letter too. You will definitely get admitted if you follow this guideline.

https://www.bcu.ac.uk/courses/project-management-msc-2020-21

School fees is 12800. Because of your grade, you cant get any scholarship discount which are given to first class and 21.. So you will huzzle for the remaining 2800 pounds.

You have to make an application first, in your application attach a letter explaining your work experience relating to the course you are applying for. Work experience helps when grade did not meet the standard, give it a try as you got nothing to lose.

It's doable but it depends on what you want. Why would you want a PhD? Are you looking at a career in academia in the long term? Would it enhance your career prospects? Is there a particular challenge that you would like to devote your time to getting answers to?

Going by what obtained on the PSW before it was stopped back then, yes. You can always check UKVI site for updates on this since the PSW won't be in effect till 2021 summer and the rules and guidance will be published just before the PSW takes off. Dependants might be subject to PBS conditions but that's to be seen.

Thank you

I am just trying to look diligently for the course that will give me all options cos of this issue of 10yrs before PR really giving concern

cos I believe its better to plan what one will be doing while stalling all that long time.

I'm not being pessimistic but just thinking that God forbid that PGPW expires, one can go in for a PhD

All just to remain in the system

My objective mainly is migration and getting a PR

There's a cap on how many years you can spend on a T4 visa so you wouldn't be able to make the 10 years on it. T4 studies is capped at 5-6 years depending on the level and in situations where you need to extend this cap, you can only extend your immigration permission if you had very compelling circumstances, such as injury, disability, or other compelling reasons for not completing your studies before the cap expires.
After PG research studies, you can only apply for subsequent Tier 4 immigration permission if the new course will bring the total number of years to eight or less. And normally, PhD takes about 3-4 years on full time basis so if you add that to your one year MSc and 2 years PSW, you'd fall still fall short of the time requirements.
Your best bet would be securing a T2 sponsorship and being on same for 5 years to qualify for ILR after 5 years.
It wouldn't be nice for you to spend all that money on studying in the UK with the aim of migration only to end up not being able to.

Try MSc Adult Nursing or MSc Mental Health Nursing..but know that it is very competitive.. you need to show some form of experience, voluntary or paid..if you are not directly in the healthcare field. Others in the house who have successfuly gone this route can advise better..wish you the best..

Do you really want to do nursing? Or is it because there’s a hype about nurses getting work/pr in the U.K.?

Well If you had a 2:1 in your Bsc, you can apply for Msc nursing in Hertfordshire & few others universities taking non nursing graduates.

Doing a Bsc Nursing because you want to follow that route to gain pr will just be daft sorry to say.

You should consider the ££££ you will spend for 3/4 years of nursing, and laws change every-time. You never know. Maybe by the time you finish that Bsc, NHS will not be in desperate need of nurses anymore. At least this CONVID19 has opened their eyes. I believe they’re going to hire surplus medical field guys after this pandemic.

Also we tend to forget that age only goes upwards. When do you want to finish Bsc, get work, settle down, get PR, get citizenship, get your dream house, car, have kids etc and just enjoy life? I believe that we should be going upwards & not downwards. You will be surprised that an Msc in your engineering field will even fetch you a high rank job with good pay. Nursing is not even as easy as people make it seem. You will work sote you go begin dey look x3 of your actual age. Whites too are very strict with rules etc. One racist boss can accuse you of sleeping on duty or neglect or wrong medication & before you know, license don go. You get barred from practicing again. You’re back to square one.

Personally I will say go for Msc in what you have passion for & previous work experience to support it. If it’s engineering, my dear go for it. Excel well with excellent thesis. Apply for PhD funding from your university or another, as long as you have an excellent proposal & Thesis, you have good chances of getting it. After Phd, the sky is your limit. More opportunities to choose from.

Regardless of what you decide, all the best.
Just my opinion

In addition, you need to take it one step at a time...have a success mindset and go for the best option that meets your target at this time.
Don't forget, you would be eligible for the 1st batch of PGWP'21...so at least you have 2 years to look for a job. However there are other route to Tier -2 such as the graduate entrepreneurship or the start-up visa option. You can even get enough experience to qualify for the talent visa, if applicable and get the 5-year visa.. there are many opportunities right now ..so don't start putting the cart before the horse...

yes, it is good to have plans and options on hand..but just like when building a house, plans change based on different reason..the most important thing at the end, is that the house is finally built.. hope you get what you are looking for... at the end of the tunnel..

Oh interesting, never knew you could start from band 7 thought it’s either 5 or 6.

Notwithstanding band 7 hourly rate is still £19.89/hr

Although, you can get more with private organisations or agencies but job security is very important.

Example is with this covid-19 era most private companies have laid off their staff and agency staff have been forced to terminate their contracts.

You are right, one needs to put job security into high consideration. I believe one can work for a CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) of a NHS Trust and still be eligible to take on private clients in addition to the paid employment when one is free as I have read many play therapists do there.

I see someone suggested Birmingham City....try Sunderland too. At least they were taking Engineering graduates from Naija with a 3rd class a few years ago. You could also apply for MSc Engineering Business Management which is basically a Management course tailored for Engineers and covers supply chain management and project management. Entry requirement is similar but, typically, only Engineers would apply to EBM so competition isn’t as stiff as PM.

Also your personal statement is key. I’m not suggesting you lie but if you can omit the ‘volunteer’ bit, it should help as you need to show that you had an acceptable level of responsibility. It would be difficult to convince anyone if you were in the role voluntarily.

No Uni would advertise accepting applicants with a 3rd class so I’d say apply to a few (with your very convincing personal statement) and hope for the best. Other Unis to try - Solent Uni, Salford, Sheffield Hallam, Cardiff Metropolitan, Bedfordshire and UWE (new course for the Uni).

This is from Salford’s website ‘Where a student has gained a recognised honours degree but does not meet the normal entry qualification requirement, they may still be considered for entry if they can demonstrate relevant work experience of a minimum two years duration post study and acceptable level of responsibility.‘

All the best!

First of all, I am a "She" not a "He".
Secondly, I only gave advise on legal options in line with the available routes through study ...I won't discuss what I have no information on..
Thirdly, please note that is a public forum and we need to mind the type of questions and information pasted.
Finally, I wish you the best and hope you get to the end of the rainbow in the right approach.. no puns intended..

I had already typed a response to you earlier but refrained from posting because this is strictly for T4 enquiries and on 2nd thought, your question gives off the air of you wanting to get into a marriage for the wrong reasons or as a means to game the system; this might put the wrong impression in the minds of prospective students.

I noticed everyone wants a PR... tho it’s good but don’t forget Nigeria is sweet oh. If you know you know.

Did you all think outside the box ? Engineering student switching to Nursing. Everyone giving advice for students not wasting their money to study management courses but rather go for IT and Health courses as you forgot all ranges to you ability and passion. Skymoore said that tho.

Forget about IT and health, people are making it in other fields too. Best advice is know what you’re doing and get the best out of it.

The white are not so dumb so they know what they’re offering is needed and if you got the required skills you will get what you want.

No one will help you. You can only help yourself. So do what you want to do. Many people have gone for the IT or health courses and didn’t graduate. Some graduated and didn’t get the job to file for PR.

So do what’s best for you.

Enjoy.

I totally agree with you. I was shocked for that mechanical guy to consider doing Bsc on top nursing. Go to U.K. and see same mechanical graduates packing pounds. Most of them even do PhD and become lecturers.

Nairaland guys have made it seem like once you do nursing or IT, gbam job and PR will fall on you.

They don’t know it’s easier said than done.
I get guys for UK doing nursing and they’ve all said it’s not beans. One even dropped out because he couldn’t cope. Oyibo nursing is not like Nigerian nursing where you just do anyhow and get licence.

Yes, you’ve got good chances of getting a job no doubt. But of what use is it to practice in a field that you have no joy for?

Once you remember your next shift, you go begin dey frown. You will be walking on egg shells before they say you’ve done something wrong. You have to do everything 100 accurate, no chance of “I didn’t know or I thought”.

Nursing is only if you have great passion for it. As per you’ve worked in the field and you just love the responsibilities that comes with it. My friend in Bradford got barred from practising and family of the man is trying to get him locked (although he’s been trying to resolve it). What did he do? He slept on night duty and a patient died. Oga did not hear emergency buzzer and before he realised what was happening, patient don die.
Another issue was that he gave that patient his tablet when he was eating dinner but did not check to see he took it immediately. If nah for Nigeria, he will go Scott free because we don’t take certain things serious here. Now he cannot work at all. DBS has barred on it. He cannot even come back to Nigeria because he’s currently under investigation. That’s it o, money wey he spend on top education don go. He cannot even get a proper job in any sector because he either needs police report or work reference or DBS. Life is now a rollercoaster for him

Please I’m not saying no one should do nursing, I’m only saying you should do it for the passion. People’s lives are in your hands.

No offence but don’t start this Canada thing here please.

We’ve already highlighted about Msc Management in U.K. (scroll up).

Sorting for job in Canada is the same as being in Nigeria and sorting for work there. Applying from the U.K. doesn’t change anything because your nationality doesn’t change & you will still need work visa to be processed for you.

Being in the U.K. will not increase your chances of getting a job in Canada than someone in Nigeria or anywhere else. Same process.

It’s a good idea but don’t rely on spending millions for Msc management because of job in Canada after. They’re millions of management graduates in Canada too

Incase, you want info about Canada, kindly visit the Canada thread cheesy.

Thank you

It is not the course you do that will determine your future in UK, Canada or anywhere in the world. Just know yourself. I cant advise you because I am not God that will assure you of job in Canada.

Anyone that assures you is a fraud.
