Help My Friend Decide: 5million Or A 100k Job?

A friend of mine just got an offer from his late brother's company few months after his demise.

His late brother having been a prominent personality (head of finance) in the company he worked before he died, made the company to offer his younger brother my friend two options..

1. 5million naira cash or

2. a 100k job per month in the Same company.

we need your professional advice pls
wait sef, for that country to want to pay you 100K, that means they are poor jor.
Collect the money and ask them "how much did they want to sell the company"

Collect the 5m
Open a Fixed Deposit Account with GtBank and throw the money inside. It should earn you up to 250k every month while you think up a nice business idea.

This is not feasible. No bank will give you 5% interest per month

Take the 5 milli course.
Reasons:
1. It will take a person on a monthly salary of 100k, 50 months (a little above 4 years) to make 5 milli. That's, of course, if he doesn't pay taxes, house rent, etc.during that period which you and I know is impossible.
2. A lot can happen in 4 years considering the kinda clime we are in.
3. A bird at hand is always worth more.

I'd go with 5 million.

Reasons:
- It'll take him almost 5 years to make 5 million.
I mean why would I have to wait that long when there's a legit short cut? The future is bright, he might get a better offer any time soon.

-The future is unpredictable. Nobody expected COVID-19 in 2020, but here we are. What if the company folds up? What if an individual who doesn't care is introduced into the helm of affairs? What if COVID-19 v2.0 happens in 2022? What if he gets sacked? What if he dies? undecided what if he gets laid off?

I'd take the cash anytime, anyday!

.....what if his own business folds up? What if he got swindled? What if, what if. Men it is even risky to be alive. cheesy

Both choices are laden with inherent risks. Such is life cheesy. That is why a prophet of God wisely said in the Bible "Man...........is of few days and full of troubles" Job 14:1.

Chai this question oo

5million of cos , with a job of 100k you will nearly save anything . You will spend it on tfare , food, clothing , bills at the end of the month . You will find it difficult to save ordinary 10k . And that same job you will work of over 4years to make 5million

The choice is yours . Collect 5million and use it to establish your self , or work for 100k without savings

No way, 5m in fixed deposit cannot earn 250k monthly

My humble advice: He should get the money (5 million naira) and start up a business. In less than a year, he can be paying himself a salary that worth more than that amount. But collecting the job offer at the expense of the 5million may turnout to be a bad idea should the company sack him few months into the job if he is not giving them what his dead brother was.

Developed countries are even worse. If you invest in treasury bill in Germany and some other countries. You investment turns to negative because govt doesn’t need ur money

Not possible.

If the company ever thought they could get away with 100k/month salary, the 5 million offer will not be in play.
They probably someday he would find out and could sue them. Some of his brother's colleague could snitch on the company, so........

5 million cash now, how many years will he save before he will make that 5million from meagre 100k salary.

With that 5million, he can establish himself and make double in 2-3 years.

And how many people do you reckon are business oriented?

Do you know the statistics of failed sole proprietorship businesses? Do you know how many people have lavished money gotten from land sale in businesses that folded up in less than a year?

Establishing yourself works if you have a clear feasible plan of where and how that money will be spent. The big question is does the guy have that?

Choose wisdom today. Collect that N5M, out of it N1M can get you FG job that pays above N100k with enough job security and opportunity to have a career, and side business as well as landed property and a small car to run around self (one u can register opay for side hustle).
You collect N100k job and after 6months or 1 year they tell you they are retrenching due to recession and you happen to not meet requirement for you to be retained. He couldn't be his brother and won't be. Collect the money and chart his own course too.

Agree.. If He Has A Well Thought Out Business Model, Then The 5m Will Do U A Whole Lot Of Good In The Long Run As Opposed To Taking The Job Offer, Which Depending On Expenditure, Wont Serve U Best If U Tink Long Term.
Eventually Ur Bills Catch Up 2 Ur Pay.

Let him collect the 5m and set up a business and with time, he'll be making more than 100k a month instead of waiting for over 4 years to make 5m on a 100k per month pay.

If the person in question is not an enterpreneur,it's better for him or her to stick with 100k per month

Ask me how corruption and criminality will ever end in Nigeria with this your terrible advice
Zizo96:

Similar advice I gave op too...
OP, na another good advice be this for you. Collect the 5m and look for a very reliable link to buy a job from top Federal Government Agencies like NPA, FIRS, NIMASA, DPR, PPPRA, NLNG, NCC, NCS, NNPC. Atleast with 1m or 1.5 you go fit buy one of the jobs stated here. And after buying, you can still invest with the remaining money and you will still be getting a very crazy salary from your job with absolute job security and rest of mind. You will also have enough time for yourself, your FG job and wetin you invest on too. Abeg reason this my matter well o

But that's the problem though. Some people will probably not recover if they lose such amount of money after business failure.

Taking business risks should be for risk-takers, not the general populace. Not everyone can survive as an entrepreneur. It's that simple.

5m cash is the best option because anything can happen tomorrow, and with that 100k a month salary to save 5m will take many years.

Take the cash, come to abuja and get a job slot with a very good federal govt organization with 2.5million. Use d remaining 1.5 million to get an uber standard ride, register with uber, make your money and flex the remaining 1M. I think FIRS is presently issuing appointment letters try ur luck there. Its a cool place to work.
