I'm posting this on behalf of my uncle.

I was working in a company, and was being paid 40,000 a month not including other allowances. A new company called me to work with them as an Officiator and we negotiated a salary of 60,000.

Both companies produce the same products.

They agreed to pay and I resigned from the other company. I started my new job in Oct. last year and was paid all through Oct., Nov. and Dec.

Earlier this year, January precisely, I had a little issue with my boss. The misunderstanding was that I complained to him that the chemicals we use during productions was adversely affecting me. In the previous company where I worked, I didn't work during the production of the products as I was allergic to the chemicals used.

On a working day, during the time for production, he asked me to join in the production but I politely reminded him about my allergies to the chemicals being used. He commanded me while shouting that I should go back and work. I normally have heart burns, dizziness and severe migraines when I'm exposed to these chemicals.
I left during production as the chemical adversely affected me.

The next day, he came and asked if I had finished the work he commanded me to do the previous day. I apologised to him that I didn't because of the chemicals rxns which he knew about. He didn't say anything but from his body language, I thought everything was alright.

I returned the following day, only to receive a 2-week suspension notice. I was surprised and asked about my offense which the General manager told me, the boss was really pissed and so mad at me which I also explained to the GM and he was really surprised as I did no wrong. Nonetheless, he advised I serve my suspension sentence.

After suspension, I was given a review of my salary and my salary was slashed by 20,000 to 40,000 because of the issue...

I was really confused and bewildered because out of the revised 40,000 I receive per month, the company takes 15,000 out of it for my rent loan...

I've been apologising while also pleading with my boss to reconsider his decision as I'm a family man and 25,000 realistically, will not be sufficient for I and my family. He hasn't yet changed his stance.

I'm so confused, please I need your opinions, suggestions and help whatsoever..

Normally you are supposed to sue his ass.

You should understand that what you are experiencing is a master to slave relationship instead of an employer to employee relationship.
Why did you have to go and endanger yourself when he shouted at you. That was a big mistake. You shouldn't have.

Collect the money and move on bro. Some teachers in private schools haven't been paid since march. So count it as your loss and don't bother wasting money on litigation or any form of tussle with d company. The world is in recession. Try to readjust.

Working in private companies in Nigeria is akin to modern slavery. No matter your qualification, you'll be treated with gross disdain.

NLC should stop carrying placards for salary increase, they should champion the course of freedom for private companies/firms staff welfare!

I would advice you create multiple streams of income especially online streams of income.

Have you considered E-commerce business, Kindle Publishing, Kindle Mesh, Crypto trading etc?

Problem here is that the company either

1.Did not give him sufficent protective equipment eg masks to work with the chemicals

2.Also employed him without taking into account his medical condition.

I wish he could sue the company.

Difficult. A family man surviving on 60k. Tough.

You shd start considering a shift to another job where you don't have to deal with something that affects your health.

Because these are trying times, you may not have an option than to go with what they are offering but have one leg out the door from now hence.

Bosses Sha! Many are just that, no human consideration. So make the man die inside chemical. Although next time consider ahead what you might be asked to do on a job, because at his previous job, he stated he didn't have to work in production. Was he informed he might be doing so at the new job?

Anyways. Once issues arise at a job, start looking elsewhere asap! It hardly gets better, only worse. More fault finding.

Was it part of the offer agreement that u will not use the chemicals? If no, then i don't think he is doing something wrong. He felt u are not doing ur job complete so u can't be paid complete

Before you change jobs you need to really evaluate

Everyone knows suspension is without pay.

This is why a lot of exposure and intent is required when moving jobs.

Distance to home, flexibility, work hours, working conditions, ethics of employers, job description, promotion, workers welfare etc etc are things people do not consider while looking for/changing jobs.

For instance, a pay arise of N50k monthly for a job with longer working hours, longer distance to home or less flexibility might not be worth it.

In the case of the OP, the N20k increase is not worth the exposure to chemicals resulting to damage to his health and lack of structure where someone can suspend an employee on a whim without due process

It is well.

All this while your boss and company wanted to pay you 40,000, this is just an excuse
