listen very well and listen, take this advise from someone that spent 35years plus in U.S. I will advise you to stay put and plan you life very in Nigeria. In about 25 to 30 years from now, your siblings will regret their actions including all those Nigerians that ran away from Nigeria. Most Nigerians in these countries will die poor, it is not a curse, it's just the reality. 80% of Americans live from pay check to pay check. Google it. It means you're one pay check from being homeless. The system that these white set up, is Notting but slavery system. You will serve them until you die and your children will continue to serve them until they die too.Generation over generation. The average black man lacks capacity for deep thinking or logical thinking. We are selling ourselves into slavery and don't know it.I really feel sorry for a lot Nigerians because most of them don't know what is going on in these foreign countries. I know about 10 of my colleagues that have passed away they die poor including a professor. It's not their fault, it's the system but most africans are ignorant of this system. How many of the Nigeria billionaires that you know that brought their wealth from U.S. or Canada or London. None, they all made their money in Nigeria. I'm happy i relocated back to Nigeria with my American wife and we are doing fine and we contributing our quoter to the development of Nigeria. You probably will not appreciate my advice now maybe 20 or 30years from now you will to appreciate it. |

NDakota:On behalf of the Op I want to specially thank you for this advice. TallNigerian read this post again and let it sink deeper into your mind. Never make a mistake you can avoid. Age is not on your side again. You are heading to 40 you know? So do the needful. |

Op, Based on your post, you do have a sure link to travel to Canada. You have been wasting your time settling down in Nigeria. You definitely would do better in an organized country as Canada, and your Professional Certificate would give you an edge over there, especially if they are in the IT field. Do not waste time any longer. TallNigerian: |

NDakota:I can relate to what you have just said, especially the poverty-induced envy and jealousy. Presently, I live in fears. Since the people around me learned what I earn from my young online business, it's has been about bitterness- and jealousy-induced calumny. I just realized that living among lazy poor people is the most dangerous thing in this world. I wonder how Linda Ikeji and Instablog coped in their early days. @Op, with the kind of link you have to Canada, I really wonder what you're doing in Nigeria thinking of federal job — not as if you're even thinking of business. Canada straight! |

As someone who was had been in your shoes while in his 20's many years back, my take is simple: MOVE TO CANADA. This is the best time to move, by the time you're in your 40's it would be much more difficult to have such unfettered access (i assume you do now) to the western economy unless you have substantial liquid asset in excess of $500,0000 to come in as an investor. |

The fact that some people live paycheck to paycheck doesn't mean everyone does. Most Nigerians in Canada and US are doing well. It is true that there is poverty in developed countries, but they do have resources that can get them out of it (Food Stamps and others). Do we have that in Nigeria? He will do better in Canada than Nigeria except he gets a political appointment and loot like the rest. jojoseph: |

eleko1:lol why you dey sad ![]() I scanned through the first 3 pages, and I see most people have given the op some good advice. ("good" is relative) Nothing much for me to say here other than to also encourage the op to consider relocating if he feels the need to. I believe he'd have nothing to lose as someone advised that he can take 2 or 3 years off work, relocate, if he doesn't like it, he can always return back. There are several factors that is so much in his favor and I'll encourage him to leverage them: e.g., he has siblings in Canada (not just 1) so, both home and abroad he has good family ties. Then he also has some years of experience. I dont know particularly what the op does or what he did for masters but there are lots of great opportunities for him. And having people in Canada already will ease the transition phase and make it less stressful. While also considering and processing relocation, he can begin to learn some skills online particularly in areas where he'd like to dominate/make as a career in Canada. Even if its a 30 minutes online tutorial, do it, keep the certificates of attendance, take exams etc. I can relate to the kind of doors some of these online courses (that we take for granted) can open. Above all, Op I am a believer of Faith, so I wont end this without saying to commit all your plans in God's hands. - Psalm 37 vs 5 (I dont know if you're also a believer). What works for Mr. A, doesn't necessarily work for Mr. B and vice versa. Dont feel pressurized. So make sure that you plan, but also trust God for direction and discernment. (with discernment comes timing and seasons. i.e, not being too early and not being too late). I know and can relate to being at crossroads like this. Finally, @op (TallNigerian) - I know that there are several people that has offered to help however if you still have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. If I dont have the answers, I'll be more than happy to direct you to people I trust. Disclaimer: I am not an agent, and any information or guidance I provide will be free of charge. Btw, I said "nothing much to say" and I ended up writing a diary. ![]() |

I was in your shoes 6 years ago. I had a good paying job in the oil and gas industry. I felt reluctant leaving my job for Canada. I took a vacation and visited for one month. My plan was to get a job in the one month period I was there and then resign my job in Nigeria. I did not get a job in that one month period. I had to come back to my job in Nigeria. Stayed on my job for another 2 years and decided to take the plunge when my wife was 6 months pregnant. I decided to move for the sake of my then unborn kids. I now have two kids and expecting my third in two months time. We had a rough start for 2 years because we knew no one in the city we moved to (Calgary). After two years I landed a job in the oil and gas industry in Canada. We are now doing well in Canada. I now have no regrets moving to Canada; I initially did for the first 2 years. We are so happy we took the plunge. No worries about security and great infrastructure. Canada is a great place to raise kids. My advice is that you should resign your job and move to Canada. It might be tough for the first few years but you will eventually not regret your decision. Canadian govt gives you all the support you need during the rough patch. You are usually paid employment insurance if you are laid off your job, you are paid some money for your kids if your income is below a certain threshold. It should be a no brainer for you to move. Stay blessed. |

Omoluabeesixtee:Citizenship by birth/marriage you mean? there's citizenship by birth, but for marriage, you'll have to go through the process of becoming citizen as either a landed immigrant or Permanent resident. (All in all, its about 2 to 3 years depending on several factors). That's if I understood your question. |

Canada is overrated, forget all the fanciful stories you have heard from people that have never been outside Nigeria before. You can never get rich in Canada but if what you want out of life is good roads and steady electricity but scooped up indoors for 9 to 10 months of the year suffering from depression due to lack of vitamin D then Canada might be good for you. |

TallNigerian:N80k a month with a master's degree? When you could make over N1m or more a month even without a Master's degree in Canada? I've even seen Uber drivers here in the US, who work full time, make over $1,000k weekly or $4,000 per month (N1.6m monthly at N400 exchange rate). It is similar to those in Canada as well. If you live well within your means and minimize your expenses you could achieve a lot back home with that. Migrate if you can. Don't even think twice about it. |
