datola: Sir/Ma I think this message is better directed to our leaders. We only live ones in a lifetime. No Nigerian should contemplate of leaving this country if our leaders are working and all basic amenities are in good shape. Do you know that 90% of Nigerian citizens even more are a line away from becoming real time beggars if a serious sickness should hit them? Nigeria has no health security. More than 90% of those who work for federal, state and even private are underemployed. Basic amenities is zero(We still use facilities built by the colonial masters donkey years ago). Nigeria is not a good place to live in. That's just the fact, even though this is bitter and harsh to say, but it's the truth. If I were to be OP, I won't even think twice before I zoomed off this shit hole. I prefer to live in a country where we all work for the good of the nation. Where the government provides basic amenities and tax payers money are used daily to build infrastructure for the community. Doesn't Nigeria make money from IGR? What does our government use the money for ? Doesn't Nigeria get paid royalty over Oil and Gas? What do they do with the money? A nation that is so filled with stupid, wicked and heartless leaders, where if a political leader is enthroned today and he starts building a project, once his tenure expires , the next political leader to come in will not continue with the project of his ancestor, he will prefer to start his own from scratch. And by so doing all the resources of the electorates are being wasted just because of the greed of some low lives who were only lucky to be at the helm of affairs. You see why this nation is so terrible. We are being led by mediocres. 1 Like |

TallNigerian:/ Currently I spend 25% of my time in Nigeria and the rest in US. My advice: Move. Don't look back. You are single and it is the best time to take risks. You will adapt easily to Canadian life since you have siblings there who can guide you properly. Good life doesn't have to be flamboyant. After this coronavirus pandemics, who knows what Nigeria will turn into? I had always gambled against Nigeria and won each time. / 1 Like |

martineverest:I read most of the comments and advises given to this young man, but the best is this. Many Nigerians think a out the exchange rate in Naira, to the foreign country they wan to travel to. Dont forget there is not that is free abroad, you pay for everything and have to work extra hard and extra hours to meet up with your bills. That is why many people doe suddenly, from exhaustion and like of rest . Living abroad will be more difficult and more expensive, after this pandemic. To recover from the shabby economy, many governments all over the world are tightening their budgets and people going to be in for hard times. This is not possibly the best time to move abroad. salford1: Don't know about N80k in Canadian dollars but N80k is £160 which is about half what an IT consultant or any professional consultant will earn at a mid management level which is around £250-£500 day rate. With adequate tax planning and usage of pension allowance, one can keep almost all of that. For paid Employees a decent mid to senior management role should yield anywhere between £150 and £300 daily before tax so you can call N80K anywhere between half a day to a full day's pay, while after tax, you can call it anywhere between half a day to 2 days net pay. |

Let’s put it in context. Nigeria, as an entity, is systematically flawed. The ‘staying back to fix the country’ mantra is untenable and futile. Your positive influence is inconsequential. You are at the mercy of a recurring, selfish, incompetent and corrupt leadership at all levels. I was in a similar situation as the OP many many years back and forever thankful to God for making the right call. I migrated. Started from the bottom, odd jobs and all to fund my education. Two masters degrees from top universities and a decade in investment banking /technology in top global firms, I now run my own high tech firm. Here, what you become is what you make of yourself, your desire, your focus, your abilities. Unlike in Nigeria, you are not shackled by a backward, limiting system. In Nigeria, you may get to the top after many years, but can end up in abject want in a very short time. Zero social safety net. The negative factors are overwhelming- lack of security, healthcare, etc. Dude, I attest that I suffered 10 times more discrimination and harassment in Nigeria than I have here in the UK. These advanced societies are fairer, value oriented systems. You add value, you WILL thrive. The OPs dedication to education and self development is precisely what works here. You’ll be propelled to new heights with time and commitment. Steadily. You can contribute into Nigeria as a diasporian if you so desire through projects, which is precisely what I’ve done. The Nigeria of today has zero consideration for your tomorrow. I have run a number of models on Nigeria and can tell you it’s not looking good at all. The decline has been in precipitation for years, exacerbated by the present crop of incompetent and nepotistic leadership. It’s akin to a jog to the bottom. The far and near term prognosis for Nigeria is troubling and unflattering Be guided, not only for your sake, but for that of your children unborn 1 Like |

You better start the process now and continue your civil service work cos believe me you would need the fund. Lv10 80k salary, new bank staff 240k and those ones dey ja go Canada like water. My brother when u get married and have children will 80-90k help? |

Bros you have no business being in Nigeria, with all the insecurity, the bad govt, bad road, bad eco system. Kai them really say some people get cap but no head while some get head but no cap. Even if you are the Director of your parastatal you just have to go to Canada for a better Life. |

One thing u need to consider is that the so called job security in MDAs in Nigeria does not guarantee social security which is ultimate. Even after retirement, your gratuity and pension are nothing to write home about and very difficult to access because of bottlenecks and corruption. Just be deligent pursue you inter-ministerial transfer which likely guarantees higher income and then use that income pursue Travel plans. Good luck! |

Totally understand where you are. At 27 years, I was doing pretty well in Nigeria. Just got married, had a nice house, lovely car, had 3 staff and an office in Port Harcourt until my wife decided she wanted us to go live in the UK where she was a citizen. Being a patriotic Nigerian, I was not keen. Life was good here. But trust the power of a woman, few months later in was shutting up my business and relocating. To cut the long story short, that was the best decision I made. Was it tough? Definitely yes. My first job was in a factory pushing pallets for 1 year. Was it worth it? Bro, definitely yes. I lost a business and a 7 years Honda accord in Nigeria and thought I was being stupid. Today I sit with CEOs of large firms, run 2 businesses, drive a brand new Jaguar and Mercedes, not renting and am just getting started. In other words, move! 2 Likes |

datola: Bro, he didn't sow in Canada neither did he sow in Nigeria. Who no like better thing? You said no country will be like your own? Wow! We are all humans in one world. Moving from Ilorin to Abuja is not different from moving from Nigeria to Canada. It's still same land, same world and people with different orientation about life. Tell me, if you are given a Canadian visa now, will you reject it? |
Re: Should I Pursue Another Federal Job Or Leave For Canada? by headlights: 8:26am On May 23, 2020 |
This that every one is leaving for Canada. Who will now remain to fix Nigeria Most of you people just like to reap from where you did not sow. And you are not going to the Canada to solve any problem for humanity but just to get 'good employment' and now pray that Nigeria catches fire and averyone remaining there should go to hell. For those of you badmouthing Nigeria. Remember 'ajo Ko le da bi ile' (Other people's country can never be.like your own country) By God's grace Nigeria shall be great again in my life time. I wail deeply when I read all our Nigerian youth wants to do is to run to other countries in search of greener pastures, no wonder Sowore didn't succeed, in a country with youths of this mindset, a Nelson Mandela could have rotten in jail, a Martin Luther King would have suffered like Sowore and died a nobody. O God who will stand in the gap and suffer that the next generation will live better lives?
