It is unfortunate that Nigerian Proprietors treat teachers as if they were slaves. For your information, many of our colleagues have not only been paid but also sacked from their jobs.

"Have not only been denied pay" you mean to type. I read some of you teacher's write up here and shake my head. Some of you protesting as underpaid teachers can't even construct a simple and understandable diction without error. What do you even teach your pupils?

Actually, some schools are very thoughtful of their staffs (including gatekeeper and cleaners). I knew a particular school in Lagos (religious - based though) that paid full salary for March and a token above half salary for April. Private schools should be thoughtful of their staffs and seek ways of topnotch welfarism.

I could remember when I was still teaching in one of the private secondary school in the East, our proprietor would preach to us how we need to seek first the kingdom of God and every other thing will be added unto us, that money is the root of all evil, bla bla bla, dude had to owe us 3 months non payment of salary, hw much sef, just 10k then, I got admission and bade them farewell, I heard the school went bankrupt and folded up immediately we left.

Anyone that tells you that money is the root of all evil is a liar. That's called "weaponization of Christianity." They try and use biblical principles to hold employees down.

I own a private school.. Not in Nigeria but in another African country.

We stopped school Mid-march and I paid full salary to all teachers and workers. But I made it clear to them that we don't have the means to pay other months if there's no school and no school fees entering. Here school fees are paid monthly and not per term.

Na so e be since. They didn't get anything in April and will not get in May. I feel for them but we can't jeopardise the future of the school for the sake of families of workers. It's a contract... You work, you receive payment. The contract isn't to take care of their families. It's simple business rule.

Some came crying they don't have anything to eat and I gave some palliatives, not in the of school oh but personal sentiments.

We pray this all stops so that everyone returns and things get back to normal.

I say mek I drop my opinion from a school owner.

For this you've done, I have no doubt, you're a considerate school owner. Don't be surprised that they'll like to continue work with you, after thee lockdown. Such acts of kindness are very uncommon.
