Tvegas:This should be a sponsored article, Obasanjo sold 51% shares of the refineries in Nigeria to a Consortium promoted by Dangote and Otedola around the first quarter of 2007 for $1 billion. When Yar'Adua took over, fuel importers, foreign owned refineries, Labour etc led by corrupt managers of NNPC led by Funsho Kupolokun started a campaign of calumny which made the newly elected government to cancel the privatisation of the refineries. Between 2007 and 2020 we have spent more than $1 billion on Turn Around Maintenance of the refineries, yet nothing and none of the refineries is working |

ahiboilandgas:My Oga, we have a cult-related thread on Nairaland. Just search for sayno.tocultism (remove the dot) and you will read gory first hand accounts of people who have either been involved in HITs or have experienced it. At least for most of the violence that happens in the West, somebody is arrested, but not here at all. It is painful, to say the least. |

ahiboilandgas:But investing and doing nothing else while you get paid is not the same as doing something before you earn. Also, you can still do something with the income from the bond. Truth is that, just buying and keeping dollars is also an investment in itself. Cos those who just bought and keep dollars in 2015 would worth more in Naira today than someone that bought bond at 18% in 2015. |

ahiboilandgas:Government said it is deregulated and they are still fixing the price. This is quite different from what we have with cement. We still have a long way to go in the oil and gas sector |

Alaska90:It boils down to the unpredictability of the system. Do u remember the short time it took TB to nose dive from over 18% and down to 3. Anything can happen in a short time in Nigeria. The guys making the kill in the stock market in Nigeria presently are the ones that do short term. Checking the market all the time and trading. Some guys buy and sell same stock same day. Long term Bond are usually favourable to corporates, Pension Fund administrators, Banks and state governments. this is primarily for business continuing from constant liquid. |

yemibayo:A friend of mine bought Zenith worth 2M at 11 naira per share on 12th March. 3 days later sold at 13.4. he made almost 430k. About 21% He bought first bank on a particular day I can't remember with 3.5M and sold next day with about 4.70 and sold at 5.10 next day That's 40kobo gain. That's over 8% by next day. Some people use it like forex. It's a risky method but guys are doing it and cashing out. For me, I am not in that category. I no need heart attack |

I would suggest the ROI be re-invested into T-bills, etc. Crazeworld: |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 6:14pm On May 24, 2020 |
This is possible but you won't make profit if you buy and sell same day. Remember that stocks can only move +(-)10bps(from previous data closing) on each trading day. Also you will have to pay brokerage comm both ways(1.35 %) excluding other statutory charges. So your stock needs to have moved more than 30bps in positive for you to really make profit. unite4real: |

Why do you think so? author=mra123 post=89913204]Thanks for this analysis. However, given the situation we are in, I doubt if naira is not going to fall to above 520 to a dollar by year 2027. Would you please suggest other investment opportunities that would provide higher return compared to the sukuk bond? |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by naijaoyibo: 6:43pm On May 24, 2020 |
The events of 12th March happens rarely. Every once in a few years. This happens in crypto almost every day. However like PA Emmanuel Elewunmi said, the surest way to build wealth is one that is slow and steady. However if you are still young and understand the market to an extent, why not? Great risks, great rewards. unite4real: |

naijaoyibo:3 reasons: *Countries are opening up and oil demand is going to increase and therefore, oil price will increase. Also, remember that OPEC+ are cutting production. *Dangote refinery will not take up to 7 years before it starts operating and hence the pressure on forex will decrease. *CBN has said they will defend naira and they are going to crack down on speculators. Once CBN starts selling to BDCs, the value of Naira might not be far above the current official rate. Some say a US Dollar will be around 400 Naira. |
