Right from 1960, the northern oligarchy understood that to get a good deal from the Nigeria project, they had to place their people in all sectors: civil service, army, customs, police, air force, immigration, FRSC, NNPC, banking, journalism, judiciary, education, you name it. These guys grew through the ranks and gave opportunities to the younger generation and the cycle continued. So don't be surprised they are in all sectors today (search "Kaduna Mafia" on google). It got so bad that it caused a big quarrel between Aret Adams (then CEO of NNPC) and Rilwanu Lukman (Minister of Petroleum Resources) during IBB's regime when Lukman wanted to appoint two incompetent northerners into the LNG project. Aret kicked against it and insisted on merit for those positions, but he was retired from the NNPC unceremoniously on account of his stance.

No one fought for him.

Down south, the mentality is not the same. Except for a few like Bola Tinubu (and surprisingly too, Dino Melaye), graduates are not fixed in strategic positions and are scouting for jobs. It may take years for the southerners to understand the game and catch up. But we must learn to be more cohesive like our northern brothers. Those of means in the south need to start pushing qualified southern folks into strategic agencies, civil service, infotech, finance, army, petroleum, food processing, et al. It may take time but it needs to start if we want to stop complaining that our northern brothers are everywhere.

Even though they are my in-laws, I no dey put mouth for ND matter again. They and their leaders prefer the way things are going. They joiner others to castigate easterners, yet this same people they call all sort of names help to create commercial activities in their towns.
