In contrast, I still get chills from Akorode's (Makanaky) exchange with "what's-her-name-now"...where she vowed to stretch her hands over his dead body. KOB is definitely a movie that should have worn multiple awards. This Living in Bondage 2 was just hype no substance.

Maybe language barrier was an issue in KOB.

There are many parts I feel could have resonated better, if I understood the language. It's hardly the same when translated.

The church scene was a winner on Living In Bondage though, to say nothing stood out, is a ridiculous assertion.

melodramatic, screams a lot. You have to have your remote handy when she's on screen.

I enjoyed her better in Wedding Party, even though I cringed at some scenes.

Nah, just two or three scenes.

It probably has the fewest occult scenes I've seen in any occult movies

If you want to watch it, watch, if not, don't. There are a thousand reasons to watch and a thousand not to watch, depending on who you ask. I've watched it twice, and once was even by 2 AM, and I slept very fine.

If you ask me, I would tell you not to watch King Of Boys, because I don't like the movie at all. Same way that lady keeps discouraging you from watching Living In Bondage, she doesn't like the movie.

No offense but KOB didnt cut it for me, it was just another one of those typical nollywood movies shot with a nice camera, with everyone forming 'gangster', nothing more.

Regarding the Andy Okeke meeting and confession to his son, no the son didnt just look the other way, he was still thinking deeply about it just like anyone would. But obviously he dismissed it because it would typically seem like a scam that your long lost father just appears the moment you make money, only to start telling you tales of how your benevolent benefactor is a 'devil'. Nnamdi shrugged it off as the words of a deluded scammer because he didnt even believe in the whole money ritual tale (remember when he sarcastically asked Mr Nworie whether there was anything like money rituals in 2019).

Regarding Chief Mike and Omego, they weren't necessarily meant to be a part of the movie, they just made necessary 'appearances'. Just seeing their faces was enough for me.

Lol Bro, I am a man. If you study the Nnamdi character, does he seem like someone interested in knowing about his family background or someone more interested in "making it in life"?

Both.. And he had one and conveniently let go the other. When he eventually made in life, for his happiness to be complete he is expected to on top of his game in discovering his obscure paternity which btw he has gotten a lead. No matter how suspicious it was. And yes he was very much interested in his family background but has always been shut down by his foster parents.

Like I said said in my original post in this thread which I modified before you guys quoted me, they should have saved Andy's emergence before Nnamdi at the end which they eventually did. And this should have been because he had made several frantic effort to get to him but was somehow prevented by Ramsey who knew that Nnamdi is his son.

And that weirdo of Uzoma which was a poor imitation of a sociopathic vengeful being is a story for another day. Such characters are hardly your average behavioural tendencies of our people

I love the showcasing of Igbo culture and language.
The love affair between Nnamdi and his lady was just the highlight of the movie for me. The luxury mansion of Ramsey and the flashy lifestyle of the six was quite interesting to see.

I saw this movie some few days back and naturally, i believe nollywood has been a failure but i got a re-think after watching this movie. A lot of people will look at the occultic angle to it, the same old story and all that but i took a different view at the movie and for thr 1st time, i kinda liked all that i saw from the beginning of the movie to the end.

The scripting was perfect, cinematography, the casts, everything. I have watched this movie at home but i would give anything to see it again in the cinemas, believe me. Its that good.

Kudos to naija and all that's coming out of it. Most of what i saw in the movie, actually posits that we are developing gradually

Toni Tones definitely.

Normally, she doesn't really get challenging roles, so, it is easy to categorize her as another pretty face with little acting skills, in Nollywood. But, she really brought it for me; she embodied the King of Boys title. Reminisce was also great, but Toni did it for me.

It was nice to see Adesua not being the star of the show. She was outdone, probably because her character was not as powerful.

I saw the movie two days ago and I must confess that it's a Top notch movie.

One of the movies that stands on the pedestal of unique production just as Lion Heart by Genevieve Nnaji. The storyline came at a unique time in life when alot of Youths are attracted to the Lust of splendour and la cream life style devoid of the sacrifices that might has been undertaken (Legal or Illegal).

It's a must watch for everyone and a movie that drives down messages, so unique a movie you wouldn't even realise it has 2hr+ screentime.

safarigirl:
So, the highly anticipated, multiple award-winning movie, Living In Bondage: Breaking Free, has finally been released on Netflix, for those of us who couldn't see it in the cinemas.

The movie flags off the directorial debut of Nollywood's heartthrob, Ramsey Noah, as well as introduces breakout star, Swanky JKA, to most of the cinematic audience.

The story basically picks up from where the part 1 left off, only, we are taken a little over twenty years into the future, and introduced to Nnamdi Okeke, who is the estranged son of Andy Okeke. Now, you may want to see the Part 1 of this movie, or read about it, if you haven't, so, you don't end up clueless at certain parts. Nnamdi is a hustling young man in Lagos, who is introduced to the cutthroat business world, in a rather harsh manner that forces him back to the village to regroup. It is at the village, he meets the Omego family matriarch, who invites him to their Lagos home, and basically opens the door through which Nnamdi, slips into the devil's coven.

I won't go into the nitty gritty of the entire thing, just so, you guys can watch it, but I would like to highlight certain scenes I particularly enjoyed.

Scene 1: Nnamdi goes for an interview with a potential client, while he waits for them, he conspicuously eats the akara he had gotten earlier from a roadside hawker. I liked how realistic this scene was.

Scene 2: The scene where the head of the cult group, The Six; Richard Williams (Ramsey Noah), confronts Andy Okeke (Kenneth Okonkwo) in church. The dialogue was interesting, it was basically a battle of wits and biblical knowledge.

Scene 3: The scene where Nnamdi Okeke goes to Richard Williams to take back the wealth, and utters the iconic line "Paul akorokwam ihe a ofuma". It was like coming full circle, the same lines from the father, is repeated by the son. The reference to the first movie in this scene, is a brilliant addition to the script writing.

Aside the scenes, the discography was really good. In addition to the OST Album with Larry Gaga, they employed tracks from Styl Plus, Olamide and Phyno majorly. This was a brilliant stroke, it limited the number of artistes royalties would be paid to, while still serving the right tracks to each scene and maintaining the Nigerian flavor.

The settings were really cool. From the luxurious houses to the village in Owerri, even Rochas' statues got screentime. Y'all that said those statues were useless, watch the movie and apologise to Owelle grin

If you're a lover of cars, you will certainly enjoy a lot of scenes in this movie, because the car collection was *sigh*

Now, to the thing(s) that were a bit below par

1. The scene where Nnamdi drives Richard's Ferrari, with Richard in the passenger's seat...it was a bit too obvious it was a green screen. Aside that, the rest of the cinematography was great.

2. And this is not a sleight to Ramsey, because he did put in a commendable effort, but his Igbo was almost comical cheesy, not bad for a non-native speaker, but Shawn Faqua's was much better.

That being said, the movie in many ways, justified the rave about it, the cinematography was topnotch, there was a refreshing attention to detail, and there was an unlikely twist at the end.

Rating: A solid 7/10 for me.

If you've watched it, please drop your review and rating of the movie.

First off, the man lost his sister and niece in quick succession, they may have been very close, may have been his only family, so, he is allowed to lose a few screws in his search for justice.

There are Nigerians with that behavior, so, let us not assume they don't exist because they are not widespread. This is a terrible narrative to have, same way people think Nigerians cannot be depressed because it is not the 'average behavioural tendencies' of our people.

I've watched that movie twice and the most wow thing in it for me, was the scenes where they found money inside soakaway and coffins, and even those scenes seemed a bit off to me.

A lot of people would describe the acting as melodramatic, especially from Shola. But, to each their own.

Shola's acting is extremely melodramatic

If it were to be an Oscar award, she will never come close to a nomination either. It's high time Nollywood realise that being excessively expressive does not make you a good act

Saw this movie 1st week of december last year at Genesis. In my opinion it d best 9ja movie i have seen in a very long time. D story was normal but the cinematography was well executed for a 9ja movie. I have seen KoB and to me everything about dis movie was just plain. LiB over KoB anytime. U see ramsey Noah ehn, dat guy na badass actor. My opinion tho.

Nigerians think melodramatic acting is real acting

The day I realised why Nigerian movies are heavily ignored by the Western audience, was when I went to read the rating of Jeta Amata's Black November and the reviews on IMDB, were "melodramatic", the way they trashed the movie, I was like " Are these people serious", that's why I don't take anyone seriously, that thinks KOB deserved all the awards.

I imagine it would also fall under melodramatic for a lot of critics.

You are quoting me out of context. I didn't imply that we don't have such characters entirely. If anything talking about depression, majority of Nigerians are depressed but hardly shows it. Heck, I was a victim too at some point in my life.

I still maintain that that's not the behavioural pattern of an average vengeful Nigerian. He could be portrayed as a successful blogger with vengeful intent without the unnecessary drama of characterization
