I just finished watching 13th on Netflix. It's a documentary about the oppression of the blacks in America. It was eye opening, provocative and made me angry at the level of injustice to the blacks. If you can, watch it and you might learn a lot.

#UnpopularOpinion:
I have suffered much more discrimination with respect to my age, tribe, race and religion in Nigeria by Nigerians than I have experienced in the UK.

I think you and the other person who mentioned experiencing racism in Nigeria actually meant being discriminated against based on your ethnicity, not race. I have always thought race refers to people who share a common physical characteristic e.g skin colour, which we all have in common in Nigeria. I stand to be corrected though.

You are right. What we have in Nigeria is tribalism not racism.

Why do you consider that an unpopular opinion? many people feel the same but I doubt that has got anything to do with the documentary or the policies and practices that gave rise to the current situation in the US and is affecting the black race across the world.

You stand to be corrected. Good.
Yes, Black Nigerians can be RACIST against BLACK Nigerians.
Ever been denied a job (by a Nigerian) in which you are 100% qualified, and same job is given to a Lebanese or Indian man who is only 40% qualified?

Remind me, what is racism again?

Hello Everyone.

I hope all is well and keeping safe. I am new to nairaland and currently reside & work in Swansea, Wales. I work at Swansea University Medical School as my post-doctoral research is focused on gynecology oncology. I initially came to the UK in 2011 for my master's degree. I have been living here since 2018 but would be hoping to relocate to London sometime next year. I joined mainly to network and meet new people. Wondering if there is anyone living around the proximity of Bristol, Cardiff.

Cheers grin

Everything you pointed out here is absolutely correct. Racism in Naija is working hand in hand with corruption, religion, gender, ethnicity, discrimination and everything one can think off. Hopefully ONE DAY when thy Kingdom come they'll understand that nobody is not innocent

I did NARIC as it was more convenient for me, all that was needed was my Transcript, and a letter of English proficiency from Uni, after getting registered with HCPC, register on trac jobs and nhs uk jobs, have a good statement of information channel it to suit the JD of the role you are applying for, have good refs, fastest fingers first and hope for the best, as it has now become more competive. Thanks to Brexit as it is now likely a level playing field with other nationalities especially from Europe applying for similar jobs.
Hello, can you please highlight the steps or how to get a HCPC certification and is it the same for other professions like Biochemists, paramedics etc

I agree with you 100%.
Especially with the new scam strategy called 'Local Content' - Nigerians are paid BS compared to those Indians and likes.

An Indonesian was part of my team in Nigeria and I was his supervisor, but guy makes more than 10x my pay and more than 18x the pay of Nigerians in his job grade. Who be HR: Nigerian, Who be MD: Nigerian, Who is the problem: Nigerian!

Hello House, I'm considering studying my masters in Information Technology in the UK. UWE, Bristol to be precise. Already gained an admission. My question is how good and demanding is the IT sector over there? What are my chances in getting a job after graduation? Or do I need to take a certification course first after graduation? I already have skills and experience in web design and some software development, currently learning skills on UI/UX design as well.

My question is how good and demanding is the IT sector over there? IT globally is in demand. With Covid 19, some companies especially startups have laid off staff but some are still hiring.
What are my chances in getting a job after graduation? Given that I do not know you and devoid of any other information I'd say 50/50 chance. You can get a job or not get a job
Or do I need to take a certification course first after graduation? Depends on your field but experience matters a lot.

Having said that, be aware that you start job hunting as soon as you enroll. most companies start recruiting graduates around October to start in September the next year. A lot of people complain they only have 3- 4 months after graduation to look for a job which is not true. They have over 1 year to find a job but often choose to wait the after their program to start looking. They often start by looking for temporary jobs and forget about the ultimate aim.

Hello everyone,

I trust that you are all doing well.

I want to ask if it's possible to apply for a job and start work, while on a visit Visa in the UK.

If this is possible, does it mean that the company can file for my work permit if accepted for the job position?

Looking forward to the response.

Thank you.

Thank you, but what do you mean by black market, I don't really understand?

Plus, let me give a little background into my story.

I've been submitting applications for jobs in my field, and have gotten quite a number of feedbacks, but by the time I get to the end of the online interview stage and they ask me to come to the office for final face to face meeting, that's where the issue always come up. I'll tell them that I'm not in UK at the moment, and I'll need visa sponsorship.

Most times, they respond with the fact that they can't sponsor, or they just stop responding.

That was why I asked the initial question of getting a job on visit Visa.

There is something called CoS.
It stands for Certificate of Sponsorship.
An employer who needs your services issues you with a CoS.
Note that not all companies/employers are permitted to issue CoS.
Once you get a CoS, you apply for a Work Visa. A typical (and popular) work visa is called a Tier-2 visa.
This is me, trying to be nice. Because if you look again at the bolded part above, you already know exactly what the legal process is. It would appear you have decided to conceive some wuruwuru in your mind and you only want to get some sort of validation/endorsement.

Lol @wuruwuru....that was why I actually came here for guidance to know if it was a good path or not, since most of the companies have been saying they don't offer sponsorship.

I was just looking to see another alternative.

But I now understand, I guess I'll just keep applying till I'm able to get a company that can issue the CoS.

Thanks for all the responses, it was very helpful.

Top of the day Friends, URGENT ADVICE NEEDED PLS

I have just done an online application to the Nigerian high commision for renewal of my passport.
I saw one is no longer allowed to book appointments but advised to strictly attend the date provided on the payment receipt

I applied on 14th June and was given a date on the 22nd June.
I have never been there before, Moreso I am not familiar with London.

Can one call them to defer this date? What is the most convenient way to travel to london from West midlands ..Train or drive ?, I would actually prefer driving because of the COVID pandemic but I have heard a lot about driving in London, What about car park?
What time is best to arrive at the embassy?

Thanks

I renewed my pasport in London couple of months ago.

If you havent been there before, it will give you a nice reminder about what Nigeria is and how we operate.

You can call, but will they pick? I tried calling them multiple times as well but I was not satisfied with the response to my enquiry.

Driving is fine, be ready to pay for parking. I think I paid 50 pounds for 4 hours parking in qpark trafalger square.

Best time to arrive is befor they come to office. I remember their office hours is 11am to 1pm or some crazy thing like that.

Go with cold water, food, ludo boards, newspaper, hand fan, etc and pray they dont have issues with network..

PS if you can shell out extra cash you might be able to do man know man and cut your whole appointment time. (I applied, did biometrics and collected my passport same day). But if you arent in a rush enjoy the naija atmosphere.

Hello all...

How's summer treating y'all?

Please is it a big deal if some of your letters and docs come without ur middle name?

My NHS letter and water bill comes with just my first and last names...no middle names... while some other come with middle name as seen on my passport and BRP..

I do hope this won't be a problem when i want to renew my spousal visa..

Thanks for anticipated responses..
