Ikwerre is a dialect of Igbo language. We the Ikwerre people knows that we are Igbos but oil politics made them cut states apart and set brothers against brothers.

But we are hopeful of Biafra, when we will unite with our brothers in one united country.

Impostor! Who told you you're from Ikwerre and related to Uche Okwukwu. My friend you're not from Elele not to talk of Ikwerre.
A true Ikwerre man Iwhuruoha in that matter will not say Ikwerre is Igbo.

Ikwerre, Emohua, Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor ancestral home is Benin, and since i was born my grand father, grand mother to my father and mother never told me that our Ikwerre has a link to Igbo.

Ogbakor Ikwerre has repeatedly rebuke those that says Ikwerre is Igbo, remember last year when Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo wanted to hold a world conference in Port Harcourt UST campus to be precise, Prof. Simeon Achinewhu then Ogbakor Ikwerre president general stopped them from holding that world conference that Ikwerre land Port Harcourt is not Igbo land.

The Berom and Langtan people of Platuea, the Ebira people Kogi and Kwara people speaks Hausa, bears Hausas names does that make them Hausa people.

This force attach must stop.
but the people you mentioned have their own language, only speaks Hausa as a second language but ikwerre don't have any other language.

Very simple stuff.

They should try and employ Edo language teachers and change to Edo names as well.

Their ancestors suffered a type of permanent brain damage affecting language centre.
Which is why they lost their Edo language and had to copy and corrupt Igbo language to create the abomination they call Ikwerre language.
Bear with them. grin

Iboes should leave Ikwerre people alone nah! They have totally disassociated themselves from your five gullies called states housing the defeated slaves and still you guys don't want to leave them alone grin

At least, recently renaming the Liberation stadium in their land to Yakubu Gowon stadium after the war hero who liberated them from their greedy neighbours was loud enough message that they will visit similar fate on ojuku descendants if they try to repeat what their fathers did in 1967 grin

What evidence is there that Ikwerre are Edo descent?

And how did they end up with an Igboid sounding language and Igbo names?

Genuine question?

No one cares about their evidence or lack of it.

All we know is that the average Ikwerre is Igbophobic and now after Fifty years, the Igbo has had enough and we will return hate for hate towards these people whose Bini ancestors dumped their Bini language, borrowed ours, and distorted it to form what they call Igbo language today.
We have reached a point of no return with Ikwerres.

You forgot that environmental factors influence the languages and cultures of a people.

I remember Bianca Ojukwu's brother traced their family origin to Idu which is the present day Bini, where the Ikwerres also trace their origin. Do the Onohs speak edo language or bear their names?

Is there any historical information about when this alleged group of bini people adopted many aspects of Igbo culture?

Which Bianca Ojukwu brother? You mean Ngwo people in Enugu are from Idu? You don't know what you are talking about.

By the way, Idu is the name Ndiigbo call ancient Igbodomigodo, which was a cosmopolitan multicultural center with Igbo speaking people living in it as well.

Shut up... In. The same post they said Ikwerre ain't igbos.

Attache by force

Stop talking like a fool. The Ikwerre girl in the video was asked what "come" is in the Ikwerre language and said it is "Bia". If you were asked which people say bia as come, you would have said Igbo. What is the difference between Nsukka people, Abiriba people, Ngwa people and Ikwerres people. They speak the same language, have the same surnames and practice the same culture. Thats why they are all known as "Igbos"

There is no difference between an Ikwerre man and anyone from the South East except denials. If denial is how someone is identified as Igbo then it means that the Nsukka, Abiriba and Ngwa man can stop being Igbo any time they like just by denying it.

So did Igbos migrate from Nri to Igodomigodo?

The Igbo people that I know that identify more with igodomigodo and their bini origin are the Onitsha people.

A lot of tribes migrated from there during the great war even all the way to Ghana.

Regarding Bianca Ojukwu's brother, I think he was talking about his family and not the whole of Ngwo but it reflects the migratory origin of most inhabitants of that area. See the interview below

If 'bia' is your evidence of being igbo, you should realize that some Ikwerre actually say 'vaa' for come, same as the Eshan, Ga in Ghana and some tribes that have traced their origin to idu.

Igbo in yoruba lands are residents not indigens.
Your can't claim that you migrate from Benin and you are at the same time claiming ownership of South East which stupid Nigerian rulers label as South South. Let Chukwuemeka from ikwere change his Name to Osahon.

What nobody ever managed to explain is if Ikwerres actually migrated from Bini to Rivers, how come their language is Igbo? How come they now have Igbo surnames? What happened to their Bini language and surnames? Are we really to believe that Ikwerres are Bini migrants who chose to forget their language and names for no reason? Its not like Rivers state is that far from Edo. Someone should tell me how and why Ikwerres dropped their Bini language and names for Igbo

The answer to your poser is very simple.

After their tortuous and traumatic journey from Benin, they lost their Edoid language and then spent the next few years without a language, only communicating by means of sign language and grunts. This made some uncharitable fellows christen them ihoriho (meaning foolish).

This state of affairs continued until a kind (and patient) woman from Ohaji in present day Imo State took pity on them and taught them the Ohaji dialect which is why Ikwerre is so similar to the Ohaji dialect.
