Nothing strange here other than the merchant informing you that some international credit card companies "might" decline use of their credit cards on some Nigerian merchant sites. Just the way some Nigerian bank debit and credit cards dont work on some FX/ crypto currency trading sites. Asides that, some Nigerian merchants and especially this site may generally prefer debit card payments especially to counter cases of charge backs and stories associated with Credit cards.

Like I said. Nothing strange here. (Edited for those quoting me)
In many international merchant sites not even Nigerian, you may have to call your bank to allow the credit card payment through.
Only difference here is the merchant (Nigerian immigrations) is giving you a heads up that it may not work.

Not all CCs automatically work on all merchant sites. It has nothing to do with Nigeria or what not.

When the foolish Reno Omokri stated
Hushpuppi is better than Buhari in a post on this medium yesterday, this and related issues were the reason I called him (Reno) an idiot,
but some foolish toddlers who had never been out of the shore of the country or do any meaningful business online keep quoting me negatively.

Buhari's government might have failed many of us in some areas truly, but for someone to have come online to make a statement that cyber crimes commited by Hushpuppi is far lesser than Buhari's appeared irresponsible and I viewed it as an encouragement to other cyber criminals.

Buhari is a political office holder as well as ex president Jonathan whom Reno served under, if you want to gain any political point from your opponent, not on sensitive matter like that of Hushpuppi.

Our image is seriously dented due to cyber fraud internationally and just aftet Hushpuppi's scenario, thousands of Nigerians had in one way or the other further suffered unjustifiably from his fraudulent act, any irresponsible statement that portrays us as people in support of cybercrime (like the one Reno issued) is uncalled for and must be condemned in its totality.

Why are you worried about the name Nigeria? Those of you guys traveling overseas why can't you guys sit back and hustle for greener pastures here at home? Don't be a fool, Nigeria is dead and gone...

Even if it's not so, would you be foolish enough to use your credit card on an on-line transaction with a government body in Nigeria?

I think this is always on the website. They usually ask you to register your credit card with them before your can use it or simple pay by money order. I renewed in 2017. And this was on the website. However, I registered my card but still couldn't use it, so I paid by money order.

I saw exactly the same thing as I was about to proccess my int'l passport online in Australia. Most Nigerians don't understand the gravity of this. Huspipi and Obi have worsened the situation. We can blame the govt all we want, but every one of us shares this blame. I remember while I was doing my masters in Australia, most of my mates back home was busy telling me "who school help". That I can make millions easily just by providing aza (account number) for Yahoo guys. You see, corruption is rooted deep from top to bottom. All hands must be on deck to tackle this scamming thing, that most of our youths have embraced and think that's the only way out.

Edited. I didn't see Canada when i made my comment earlier, I thought you were in Nigeria. Nonetheless, that is a common occurrence when using Naira denominated cards online.

I have used my credit card multiple times on that site to pay for passport renewal or visa application. Last time was about a year ago, and there was no issue.

I don't think decline of such transaction has to do with Nigeria specifically. Credit cards are designed to decline transactions that appear unusual. I have got my credit card declined many times on sites that has to do with Nigeria and likewise sites that are non-Nigerian. Sometimes I got declined when making payments on sites in western countries. The system is set up to decline unusual transactions. Often, i will get a message on my phone asking if I approved specifc transactions. I only have to click Yes or No.

Why not just pay with money order. I had to travel to Atlanta last year to renew my passport. Imagine flying from one state to another for ordinary passport renewal. And those embassy staff are using people to do business. They said no 10year passport booklet because they want people to be coming every 5yrs. They even have a business center across the consulate run by a cabal with links to the embassy.

I heard that in Dubai Nigerians now have a new strategy of committing crime in markets, they move around with pepper spray, or pepper doused in water if they see a wealthy Arab carrying a bag in a secluded or isolated area. They would walk asif they are just passing u then pour the pepper into your eyes.

As u go for your eyes screaming from the pains they would flee with your bags. This is the kind of evil criminal mindset Nigerians keep displaying
with CCTV cameras everywhere? Dubai is not lagos.Any person try such a stunt he will be caught in less than a second
